BRET Side to face Newcastle

Seriously John Grant is first grade quality based on what he showed in that match. He is so big so he won't be dominated or bullied which is usually the issue with rookies and he catches wingers when they make line breaks and looks like he's jogging doing so. He is so so so fast on the field and he translates it to power by breaking tackles too. He would be deadly in the first grade side with players pushing up with him and as an option. I'd put him ahead of the NYC wingers even.
 
The reason Davis has not made NRL in my opinion is that he is a very fine attacking player but not the guy you want defending an error or defending repeat sets. He is not an effort on effort player and as long as this is the case I do not see him as worthy of an NRL slot.

I thought very highly of him with limited exposure to watching him but get out and concentrate on him in a game at the ground and your opinion may change
 
Because the rest of our first grade team is fantastic at defending errors or repeat sets smeghead.

Thanks for the report on John Grant MacDougall. Sounds promising.
 
Be interesting to see whether Grant is in the clubs plans for next year. He's still very young and if he continues to develop….who knows?

Saw him at Henson the day he stuffed his leg after scoring three trys and nearly a fourth inside 30 minutes. He is big and ungainly and Iam not sure how effective he would be at the dirty defensive hit ups, but god he is quick. Their has been many a chance go begging for lack of pace this year. Iam sure if he had been put on Lote's wing this year he would have over a dozen trys by now

He is apparently the fastest in the NRL squad so i would be surprised if he isn't the fastest at the club including BRET.

The thing with Grant is that he doesn't look fast at all. When I was watching the game I was surprised because at first I thought he was pretty slow. But then I saw Peter Matu'tia make a linebreak and he had about 15 metres on Grant and Grant caught him after about 30-40 metres jogging. When he caught him Matu'tia offloaded and Grant ran in field to cover the support and his legs were moving at about 1/4 the speed of the covering attacker but he was struggling to not overrun him. When the play broke down Grant didn't even look like he had broken a sweat and wasn't puffing at all and everyone else involved in the run looked dead. And this was in about the 60th minute.

But the thing that had me most impressed WAS the d hit-ups he was taking. I always thought his issue was not getting involved enough but he took plenty of hit-ups from dummy half out of our own end. If I didn't know any better I would say he has been watching Justin Hodges.

this is exactly right! when he played at eastwood i remember doing a sprints session and id heard about him but never seen him run. he dead set looks like he is cruising but he is about 10 metres ahead of you all looks very slow motion

This sounds very promising and ominous.
 
Were absolutely desperate for genuine speed in our backline & this bloke can deliver.
He mite get caught out occasionally in defence but is learning all the time,& has good ball security (unlike Lote)…his time in NRL is rite NOW.
Sheens needs to roll a few dice or were gonna end up also rans ..again!
 
Get the big gazelle in a jersey and into first grade. He is a confidence player is big John, let him go

Throw him in 1st's. Would be a better option than Lote at the moment!
 
When he learns positioning and to tackle he can go to first grade. No doubting his athleticism and speed but he made two awful reads in that game which lead to meat pies, you cant afford that in first grade.
