BRET vs CC Storm, Leichhardt Oval, Sun 20th Sep, 3pm

What a great win for the Tigers. Boys are playing with such spirit and really working hard for each other. Next Sunday its:
Bulls v Wenty and Tigers v Norths
Both at Leichhardt Oval - times to be confirmed. Likely same as today 1.15 and 3pm.
Best to check here or Tigers website ([www.tigers.org.au](http://www.tigers.org.au)) as the venue and day changed for this weekend (from Henson Park).

Tigers try scorers: Sean Meaney, Al Schirnack, Dean Webster. 3 conversions to Josh Lewis.
Injuries: Sioelo Makaui - did not look good, looked like dislocation arm or shoulder.
Ryan Carr came back on so should be OK, others took plenty of hard hits including David Gower - but hard to imagine that they wont all be playing.

Tigers beat Norths at Leichhardt earlier this season, but lost over at North Sydney Oval.

Carr should pull up ok. Farlows ankle is a bit troublesome but a good recovery session and some injury management and all should be good.

Hawkins and Farlow held us together with a massive defensive effort.

Big Al was a beast for the last 15 minutes. Taking massive hitups twice a set and Mataka doing the same.

Not a bad performance bar the twits in green. At least one Storm try was a woful decision

Congrats to Balmain on what sounded like a very tough and well deserved win. Hope they can knock over Norths next week.

That's not good news for Sioeli if this is the case, as i am pretty sure he sat out most of last year after a shoulder reconstruction. :frowning:

It happened right in front of where I was at the time. He went for a hard tackle and the shoulder looked to pop out than back. He knew straight away he was gone

TIGERS MOVE INTO STATE CUP FINAL
From the NSWRL
Monday, September 21, 2009
Balmain Ryde Eastwood Tigers overcame a late comeback by Central Coast Storm to record a 24-18 victory at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, September 20, in the NSW State Cup semi-final.

The first 25 minutes was all Tigers. The efforts from Ryan Carr as playmaker had the Storms heads spinning as his inside balls were dynamite.

Carr helped set up the first try of the game, in the first minute, when he put a long ball to David Gower, who then popped an inside ball to a charging Al Schirnack, barrelling through the Storm line, 6 – 0.

Then as the Storm were falling over themselves to give back possession Carr moved the ball wide to fullback Sean Meaney, who made a brilliant inside step to slip through one tackle and cross in the 12th minute, which Josh Lewis converted 12 – 0.

Again the Storm couldn’t get it together, dropping the ball anytime they tried to move fast. The Tigers took full advantage, when Dean Webster scored a surprise try as Lewis’s kick rebounded off a Storm players face and Webster picked it up, made 2 strides and a dive to cover the final 10 metres and put the Tigers 18 points in front.

But as the clouds rolled in so too did the Storm. Ominous or not, finally the team which had made it into the top 6 turned up to play. The Storms attacks turned brutal as they charged their way up field. Late edition Joseph Tomane was their key line breaker, getting them on the board with a try in the corner.

Then as Alan Munro ran through unopposed after a Tigers player slipped over in front of him, the Storm looked a chance only being down 8 points going into half time, 18 – 10.

The Tigers were really on the back foot for the next 30 minutes. The Storm drew the score equal (18 – 18) after Captain Rory Kostjasyn completed a sloppy try when he crawled after a missed grubber to get a hand to the ball on the line in the 60th minute, then James Maloney put on 2 points with a penalty kick 2 minutes later.

The announcer was drowned out for the final 18 minutes such was the roar of the crowd. Both sides had several breaks, the Storm fullback Jamen McLeod creating the most havoc. But the difference was in the Tigers ability to hold up the Storms progress and get them back into the game. The combination of Schirnack and Willie Mataka was just too much as they belted their way up the field often with 2 or 3 Storm players hanging off their backs.

But with 5 sets in the Storms half and all eyes on Lewis for the field goal, Ryan Carr stole the win with a try from dummy half right under the black dot to put the Tigers 6 in front which they held out to make the Grand Final qualifier against the old enemy, North Sydney Bears.

**BALMAIN RYDE v CENTRAL COAST STORM**

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood held off a late fight back from the Central Coast Storm to win 24-18 in the semi-final last Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers looked set for a comfortable win when they led 18-0 after
19 minutes but the Storm hit back to level 18-all in the 63rd minute.

Central Coast had the chances to hot the front but the Tigers held them out and grabbed a memorable victory when Ryan Carr burrowed over from dummy-half to score the match-winner with four minutes remaining.

The Tigers got off to a flying start after just two minutes of play when Josh Lewis put a charging Al Schirnack over for the try.

On the back of another penalty, Balmain Ryde-Eastwood worked their way towards the opposition try line. Full-back Sean Meaney raced onto the ball and beat the sliding defence to score wide out. Lewis added the touchline conversion to give the Tigers a 12-0 lead in as many minutes.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood went further when a short kick from Lewis was knocked on by James Maloney. Dean Webster swooped on the loose ball and raced over for the four pointer.

With the Tigers in full control, the Central Coast Storm needed to hit back if they were to have any chance of winning the game.

And they did in the 26th minute when winger Joseph Tomane collected a Brad Clark pass to score in the corner. Maloney added the extras from wide out.

Four minutes later, the Storm were in again when Alan Munro went through feeble defence to score an individual try.

The Tigers had a number of attacking chances late in the first half but failed to add any points and they went into the sheds leading 18-10 at the interval.

The second half was a dour struggle with no side able to get the upper hand and it wasn?t until halfway through the second half when hooker Rory Kostjasyn was able to kick ahead and scramble over to get his hand on the ball for a try.

The scores were all squared up when Maloney kicked a penalty goal in the 63rd minute.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Central Coast Storm had a great chance to grab the lead with a number of attacking raids close to the Tigers try line but were held out by determined defence.

Balmain Ryde-Eastwood worked their way towards the other side of the field and almost scored in the 74th minute when Lewis put a grubber kick that was fumbled by Tomane in his own in-goal. But Tomane managed to ground the ball before the Tigers pounced on the ball.

**Balmain Ryde 24** (Al Schirnack, Sean Meaney, Dean Webster, Ryan Carr tries; Josh Lewis 4 goals)
Beat
**Central Coast Storm 18** (Joseph Tomane, Alan Munro, Rory Kostjasyn tries; James Maloney 3 goals)
