The dumbest emblem in the comp. is the South Sydney rabbit.
The team name is the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
A rabbitoh was a bloke who killed, skinned and sold rabbits.
Those dummies need to work out whose side they're on.

Iike Saints. St George slayed the dragon.

They were actually known as the St George Dragon Slayers.

They slayed the steelers

Any player will go to a brand new club to be on the record books.

Will be hard for us to recruit if I had to be honest.

They will be a destination club but won't feel the need to tell/ convince everyone that.

Sure did, the bastards. Illawarra were always my 2nd team.

Instead of introducing soul-less new 'franchises' the NRL should grow a pair and instead concentrate on getting Illawarra and the Bears back in our game.

All comes down to the good old dollar these days. Bears and Steelers got done over massively, it was a disgrace. We might have a dud club to follow but at least we've still got one.

I liked the steelers too, much more right to be in the comp than Cronulla .no Sydney team that went to superleague should have survived.

I bet the same would have happened to Tigers and Magpies had we merged with "bigger" clubs.

No doubt whatsoever. Parra/Balmain would've been just Parra these days and Canterbury/Magpies just Canterbury. For better or worse Magpies/Tigers is still kicking.

I think this will be a poor decision. There isn't enough talent to sustain 16 competitive teams as it is.

There is enough talent to sustain 16 teams and still have a decent, competitive comp if the talent was spread evenly and teams were policed more stringently as far as payments outside the salary cap go IMO.

Actually 90s football was top notch and we had no trouble sustaining 20 teams with a smaller population.

I still maintain it is madness to not bring in the Ipswich Jets .....finances or no finances

AFL is starting to become entrenched in Ipswich and you start a massive rivalry with the Broncos if Ipswich comes in

Redcliffe (Dolphins ) really can't get any bigger ...Ipswich is in a massive boom population wise

Easts Firehawks are too close to Brisbane and will go down the gurgler much the same as the Crushers did

If you were to rank the bids football , location and population wise

Ipswich , Redcliffe and Firehawks

Redcliffe have always been the silvertails of the BRL/QRL and despite their massive financial advantages still have only won 1 premierships in 42 years before the true BRL disbanded with the Broncos introduction ......they are mighty damn good at choking / tripping at the final hurdle as are the Easts Firehawks ......

I wouldn't say no to North Sydney coming back as long as they were happy to be based on the CC and were happy to play half their games at North Sydney and Gosford ....

Would be funny if it end up the Dolphins. People may remember that was the name of the Gold Coast team when they first announced and Redcliffe put up and fight and said that’s our name and we might want to entered the NRL one day. At the time it was considered just a dream but the name was changed to the Titans and here we are with the Dolphins coming in (maybe).

Yeah a lot of people forget that fact in regards to the Gold Coast ......the only good thing I can say about Redcliffe is Arthur Beetson ..he played for Redcliffe before coming down to Balmain and then the prodigal son came back to captain coach them in the early 80's ..where they blew another premiership when they got beaten by Souths with a last second try by Mick Reardon in the GF ......

There were quite a few teams in the 20-team comp that were atrocious though. Wests being one.

Agree 100%. That was what was supposed to happen but Manly had other ideas. I knew there was another reason for my dislike towards Manly!

Am I the only one who finds it weird that as a game with our population growing that we can't find more players of equal quality and enough players for extra teams

I reckon the style of play has made it more physically exclusive mate.
Like basketball requires a certain type of build, rugby league now requires a certain build. Body types can be written off at a glance being too small, too skinny etc.
Half the players from even 20 years ago wouldn't be considered physical suitable or even capable with how the game has evolved.

There must be a change to how squads are qualified by the NRL to avoid the gap widening. I know it's not popular but a player rating is really the only way that I can see this working, the salary cap obviously doesn't. The divide now is as wide as ever and it will only get worse.

I don't agree with that. Wests were in and around finals 95, 96, 97 and during those years crowds and ratings were superb. I certainly preferred the style. It was only in 98 and 99 that Wests and Balmain were atrocious because it was known they were gone and nobody wanted to go there because of super league.

It was more skillful imo as teamwork goes but as barra mentioned the rule changes have changed physicality requirements.

The real problem is the rules imo.
