Brooks and Moses - At least one will not kick on

Neither are first grade material at present but if I had to pick one I'd persist with the one who isn't afraid to put his body on the line.

I'd persist with Moses.

Nobody complained about our halves after we belted the Dogs. If we had beaten the Roosters this thread wouldn't have appeared. So, on the basis of one loss were questioning the careers of 2 kids who've played 50 games between them.
Galloway and Woods got totally owned, Stuart/Daley, Langer/Walters wouldn't have won us that game if they played for us.

I think we should play Austin at 5/8 and Moses should grow into his body in state cup…......Oh wait a minute we let Austin go cause we thought Moses was a better prospect.smart move :crazy

What if i said i think Moltzen should replace Moses at 5/8 at present CK. There's some conflicting interests for you with Timmy being your boy.

A lot of good judges blah blah blah x 1000 Moses Moses Moses. Austin is a journey man blah blah blah. Are they really good judges.

Not one of these so called good judges called Austin an origin bolter. Some of us knew he had it in him, but were drowned out by the people who were afraid Austin was going to take the limelight and position from Moses.

Good call guys.

I thought Austin was definitely a SOO player considering how poor the NSW halves are. At the same time I thought that Moses was possibly a better longer term option.

My thoughts still haven't changed. I definitely thought that we should have tried to keep Austin and I still feel that is the case however lets see how Moses and Austin turn out over the next couple of years.

On top of that I still don't get the negativity around Moses this season. He has been pretty good. Yes he has a bad pass or two in him but overall he has been solid.

You never give up trying, do you?
Double yawn.
Play with the kids and leave me alone. :unamused:

Its actually what i think should happen, i mean why not? While i was thinking about it though i suddenly remembered how enamoured you were with the guy, and i couldn't help but bring it up and see the quandary you'd be in.

Austin left because he wasnt prepared to take a back seat to Moses….fair enough, let him go..

Geeze he killed them yesterday....we let him go to keep a rookie with a huge wrap...

Let the years of training and losses roll on.....

lol… Nice hedging of the bets there.

Both will play over 100 NRL games and that alone is a great achievement.

Brooks is still trying to work out when to control a game, and can get a little 2-left-footed, but has class to play many more NRL Seasons. His greatest asset is his ability to not be caught up with the bright lights.

Moses by the end of 2016 will be commanding top dollars much like Milford. He has structure and flair that every team needs. Once he settles into the team, watch him fly!

Both are 1-2 years away from reaching there potential!

exactly, people dont understand how hard it is to control an NRL game at 20 years old with no one to help you out excpet another 20 year old.

keary is going alrightttt and people are saying he could play origin in a year or two. he's 23 bloody years old and has adam reynolds helping him out too. so people want him to play origin at 24 or 25.

thats 5 years away for brooks and moses. they will be very good players, maybe not amazing (international standard) but they will be very good at least.

Lol.. Most "Internationals" are just that. Good to very good players. I would be very happy if our halfs became that. To be smart enough to control the game and able to close it off in tight situations makes a good half.

Austin is better than both of them, he's a competitor he takes on the opposition, Brooks and Moses don't have that in them and theyre not going to all of a sudden get it from nowhere. If its in you you show it most in your youth, it doesnt come out as you get older.
Bird is the same, he's got that streak in him. Brooks is that relaxed and calm on the field he seems he's almost half asleep at times, i remember all the comments before his debut saying how he wasn't fazed by much and he's not, but theres a point where he needs to come out of his slumber and fire up. Im more concerned with Brooks than Moses, Moses has more natural talent and when he physically develops and is given a bit more rein he'll be killer.

well personally id call mullen, soward, and austin very good halves but i doubt any will play international ever in their career.

some people might get called in through injury or a period of amazing form but most good halves dont play for australia.

I've never seen so much chicken little syndrome in a thread since… well since last time we lost.

Our forwards were destroyed, our halves are not defensive giants. Most halves arent, their forwards just protect them better in the defensive line. Darren Lokyer was one of the worst defensive 5/8's i've seen. But was well protected (given a helping hand) by the likes of tonie carrol etc throughout his career at #6.
Thurston is another who struggled massively for years defensively.

Blake Austin saw an opportunity at a certain starting 6 role at canberra rather than fight for the position against one of our junior golden boys. Remember Austin was contracted for this year but HE asked for the release. Personally i think the club should have denied his request but i think many believe we did the right thing not keeping him here if he didnt want to be here.

In my opinion Jason Taylor's game plan is way too conservative. If we are to see the best out of Brooks and Moses they need to be able to roam, not parked on either side of the field.

They will both be great players - but in becoming great they will make plenty of errors. Just like all halves - because they play for eighty and they handle the ball more than other players. I think its about time that some of the knockers start critiquing the games of other halves in the game - I think you will find that all halves are pretty much speed humps for the likes of Tony Williams, Pritchard,Cordner,Fifita and the big running forwards especially when teams are defending the line. Mitchell Pearce probably the best defending half in the game atm( and he is also surrounded by a team with a great defensive record to support him) - its taken him years to get to that level, and he also copped a heap of criticism by all the good judges who said he was only ever picked because of his fathers influence in the game. Now his running game has also improved. I get why people are impatient due to this desire to have instant results - but to write either of them off at this stage based on what you have seen so far, is ridiculous.

Yep…..what he said!

This is a goodun too…..agree re the game plan.

I would def like to see them link up and play outside eachother.....they have done for years!

either it's the game plan or the righ backrower's fault or moses' fault but he gets isloated way too often and gets smashed by the bigger player- felt like whenver they were gonna come left, moses will get destroyed.

Blake Austin is a good runner of the football. He defends ok, he kicks ok, he passes ok. Honestly he's not a guy you can hang your halves hopes upon, he's not a natural organiser. What happens if he loses a yard of pace in the next few years; you need more strings to your bow to be the basis of the halves combo. Blake Austin complements a good side with good go-forward. He needs to have the ball 20m out from the try line to be most effective.

Not that I don't think he is doing well, I like the guy, he is a tenacious competitor and I would not have let him go if we could have held him. But we couldn't hold him, he wanted to be starting every game and we'd already invested in Moses.

Unless people forget, we re-signed Brooks and Moses for 4 years at the same time Blake Austin was signed, at a stage Austin had managed 16 first grade games for the Panthers. We'd already committed to the young guys before Austin even pulled on a Tigers jumper.

if your forward pack is being dominated like the tigers were on Friday night WHAT DO YOU WANT THE HALVES TO DO even Thurston or any other halve could do any better than brooks or moses did
