Did anyone else hear A Johns on Friday night praise and suggest Brooks is ready for first grade NOW?
Wondering why we haven't started him yet?? :crazy Or is the plan to offload Benji next year before throwing Brooks in?

Can't use him due to 2nd tier salary cap. They have applied to the nrl for an exemption though.

This. Salary cap issues have forced us into holding Brooks back for the moment.

Can't do much without a proper halfback. The sooner Brooks is in the side the sooner Mick Potter gets a good night sleep.

Yea there is galea#11 it was linked in a previous thread I'm sure you will be able to find it on YouTube if you look

Can't find anything. I have seen him play a couple of times on the tele and he was great. Won't be long before there is a highlight real

Luke Brooks has a good passing and kicking game. He looks to keep the play flowing by using his offload. He has a good step to get through defenders and has shown good speed in his game too.

I think it would be good to have a halfback/controller who doesn't goal kick. He has been playing with Jack Madden in NSW Cup and those two seem to work well together. Brooks still has a bit to learn in defence but he is still developing. If it wasn't for the cap, he would be playing first grade IMO

Does releasing Pettybourne impact the application?

If possible by the salary cap and by all reports of his ability, the Warriors match would be perfect timing. Bye this week and all the media attention will be on SOO for the next two weeks.

Pettybourne is on our books until the end of this season, so I'd say not.

Penrith said that they could not play their young fullback a couple of weeks ago. He played for them on the weekend. I wonder if they obtained an exemption?

They did. I was under the impression we were asking for exemptions already (maybe nofo? ava and/or sue)

As annoying as it is for us, the NRL might be less keen to give exemptions in the half role seeing we have benji/siro there uninjured.

Not that i agree with it

Johns has a bad habit of getting over excited about youngsters claiming they are the world well before their time.

I cant stand Marshall and im as excited as anyone about Brooks, but i think its a good thing he isnt playing NRL this year. Even next year he wont be quite ready but we'll have to be patient and not crucify the kid for mistakes and some quiet games.

Does Big Ed's departure open another slot in the top 25 players though? I realise there are still some salary cap issues there but they'd be first rather than second teir issues? Or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

On here? You must be kidding! The lynch mob will be after him from the first game, unless he turns in a Tommy Raudinikis like performance.

I don't trust Joey as far as I can punt him… He's the President of the Brooks fan club and probably doing everything he can behind the scenes to get him to Newcastle.
