Brooks

There is no question about his talent however I feel like brooks needs to move around the park more. I'm not sure if it's micks orders or what but he seems to be stuck out there on the left.

Especially when we are in the opp 20\. Our set plays is just farah with a run around or an overlap with the fullback. Brooks needs to combine with his half partner at least in the opp 20 IMO.

Great game from him yesterday. Thank god we locked him up for 4 years.

Farah with a run around and the sweeping fullback plays are working in asking qs and scoring.
U say you want the halves to combine more, what is your reasoning? What do u believe will be better with this happening?

I agree with original post.

One hate i have of the modern game is how far this whole "left and right" thing has gone.

I can cop centres and backrowers, but having left and right halves is crazy IMO.

That play when Farah runs around and the forward just tucks and runs fools nobody and is so dumb. The only thing I can think is that Farah does it, then counts the numbers and then calls whether he wants it or not and when he doesn't the forward is just a sacrificial lamb forced to take a pointless hitup. Suppose that would make sense. I'd like to see them work different plays out of that position, and Brooks coming across would accommodate that.

Not every play is designed to create a try. The most boring set play was Sheens having our forwards continually running back into the ruck. Designed simply to keep the 2 markers there which means that there is a player short somewhere else

I don't mind split halves but we have no second half to make it work. Brooks needs to play right too so Simona and Nofoaluma aren't wasted. It's sad, but we need a 5/8 ASAP.

I would have thought Brooks running to the right would make more sense since he's left handed so his most natural passing action should be the left to right pass? So if he were split into one side it would make more sense for him to be on the right anyway? Oh well.

Two of those pretend runarounds in a row followed by dummying it a third time led to the defence holding up for that half step which gave us our first try last night.

Its not meant to fool anyone. Its meant to suck in defenders with the hope a wide shift on the next play will catch the opposition short. Has worked a treat several times this year.

Good game from Brooks against the Sharks. He seems in be building nicely as a first grader. It did help having Farah back. He had a good combination with Patterson as well. He seem composed in his 1st game against the Dragons last year. To go on with it this year and play every minute in the first 10 rounds has been a very solid start for a rookie halfback. Unlike most that are up and down like yo-yos.

exactly, worked amazingly against manly

Yes but the strike rate is about 1 in 20\. Having 1 try after 20 PTB in the opp 10 is simply not good enough.

As KS mentioned, I'm not a fan of left side and right side halves as many teams are doing now.

At least one of the halves along with the fullback needs to roam around. Doesn't have to be brooks if potter thinks staying on one side is better for his develooment

I agree with tig_pmz, Brooks really needs to attack both sides. Currently Nofo and Simona are being wasted out on the right hand side.

We need more bodies in motion, running better attacking lines, when we are attacking inside the 20m. Currently we are doing too many predictable hitups and plays that are predictable and ineffective. The last tackle options are also not as good as they should be.

WE need to be scoring points more reliably when inside the 20.

there is a positive to this

sooner or later, we will get that balance right and when we do, the opposition willl not be expecting that. it will be alien to the defense.

ofcourse the downside being that we may f up with our execution if we dont practice.

i've maintained that noffa and simona are being very underutilised so that they're fresh and unexpected at the back end of the season.

i may be giving too much credit to the coaching team though

if you're right….that might be the most amazing tactic ever. so ballsy but so rewarding at the same time.

Even as a tigers support i keep forgetting simona is even playing and you can bet that the opposition will do that very soon and only focus on Brooks, Richards, Lawrence, Farah, Teddy and Taupau. At which point we can unleash Nofo, Simona and Sironen! :sign: :sign:

Agree. Makes no sense. No great half ever was restricted to one side of the ruck. How this crazy craze picked up is well beyond me.

No one is sticking a gun to our head

No reason we can't play Simona as an extra man on the left

I think when Austin finally becomes the full time 6 we will utilize our right side more effectively

Maybe Mick is saving it until later in the season to take teams by surprise , teams will stack their right hand side defence and we go right side attack which will be more beneficial to Simona and Nofoa as it will give him more room

Nofoaluma seems to have a roving commission in attack , at times I noticed in the Titans game at the GC when we went left he seemed to sit behind the ruck tight in case something opened up

You beat me to it. Isn't the fact that it got us a try sufficient to give it a thumbs up for trying it every now and then?

Look how good brooks is going now.. Imagine if he had a good 6/8 out side him. Half the pressure will be off his back.. It seems that the attack is all on him.. poor kid. Yet he is still cleaning up, the future!!
