Bryce Gibbs in 2010

Last night was the first live tigers game I have watched in 2 years since relocating from Sydney to Mackay, and what I witnessed from Bryce Gibbs was hopefully the start of a great year for him and the Tigers! He played a great game and led from the front but there was only one thing he failed to do? Hit that little grub WATTS into next week!

I was at the trial in Mackay last night. i was very impressed with all the players that trialled. Bryce was a standout taking it up and making big metres and showing good leadership. Of the new players Junior Moors was very impressive playing at prop running hard and making great yardage. Jake Mullaney was excellent at the back and scored a great try as well as goalkicking was good. Arana Taumata was also impressive in his debut and showed great speed and flashes of brillance as well as good kicking in general play. Mark Flanagan, Schernack, Pritchard,Daniella were standouts as well. Matarka, Lazarus were good without being great. Fitzhenry was good in defence but made 2 typical Fitzhenry nuffy mistake's by knocking on from a Cowboys drop-out 10 metres out & dropping ball at dummy half-only had half a game. Corby much more impressive on debut at hooker. The fitness & defence were outstanding as the boys withstood wave after wave of Cowboys attack for most of 1st quarter without conceding a point. The boys are extremely fit & Folkes has them in fantastic condition. Gibbs played the whole 80minutes. I am very confident that fitness wise we r in the best shape ever!!!!! They finished as strongly as they started. Shannon Gallant was very ordinary for the Cows so he is no great loss!!!!! Tigers attack was impressive given the sloppy conditions as I also walked on the ground after the match & it was very soft so their performance was excellent.

Thanks for that update. No surprise IMO that Gibbs was standout, he was solid last year and I expect him to improve again this year. Good to hear Moors was impressive, from the sounds of it he has thrived under Folkes fitness regime and could sneak his way into the top 17\. Overall though, it sounds like there is plenty to be positive about and look forward to. The boys are fitter and stronger than last year and if they're talk is to be believed, then they're more hungry for success too.

Can't wait for the Foundation Cup where we will get to see the big guns in action as well as some of the boys who played well last night hopefully.

Bryce was solid last year. It was the first season that he played up to first grade standard. Over the years he got a lot of special treatment because of his potential, now it is time for Bryce to payback some of that.

It was against a reserve side. That is all.

Hybrid you need to watch your negativity. I havent seen one positive post from you in 6 months which is a shame because I generally enjoy your insights.

"and hooker Daniel Fitzhenry are going well. Fitzhenry is doing plenty of work in defence in the middle."

The Fitz once again leading the WT to victory!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

Seems to be some confliting reports on the performance of Daniel Fitzhenry….....

Oh......._**2010-the Year of Bryce**_

 OKay good = blinder…......right

One question though.....Fitzhenry...attack......O pts scored.....Young Chis Corby comes on 28 pts.....

If you get your attack in order the defence will take care of itself....Does this apply to Fitzhenry?

Only the people who were there will really know, but we've got at least one spectator who reckoned Corby was the more impressive at 9.

Gibbs needs to step up to the mark, and that benchmark is Sam Burgess. WHAT A PLAYER !!!

WT are VERY light on in the front row department. Gibbs needs a massive year. He needs Big Hits.

LMAO!!!!!!!! I can't believe I'm seeing Gibbs and Burgess in the same sentence and not under the headline " Burgess drives Gibbs in to China during massive tackle" Bryce Gibbs is so far away from the size, style and class of Burgess that there will be stalegtights in Hell when Bryce measures up in even one tackle to what Burgess is producing CONSISTANTLY and at an international and inter competitional level.

It's as if you have watched Sam Burgess dominate the NRL for years and years - which is obviously not true. Sure he has plenty of potential but as far as I am concerned Sam Burgess is all hype until I see him play an entire NRL season.

That's not the point I'm making at all. I'm saying he has greater size, skills, style, ability, mental toughness and potential than GIbbs will ever have. And it is the way it is. They are two totally seperate entities. And Burgess ,hype or not, has more as a player (and 20 year old) now than Gibbs will ever have. And I've watched Gibbs for years and years!

Well I just think that you are giving Burgess far more credit than he deserves at the moment - this time last year I felt Gibbs should of been one of the first players cut from the Tigers squad, but after last season I am positive than he can can continue to lift his game and become one of the Tigers key players. Besides, Gibbs is one of our best defenders - he may not produce the big hits but he consistently brings big blokes down on the spot with his bootlace tackles - which is something a lot of the other Tigers players have trouble doing.
