Bryce Gibbs

Just reading the Andrew Fifita/Shane flanagan thread, it made me realisejust what a huge amount of respect Bryce Gibbs has gained form WTs fans over the past couple of years.

Wasnt too long ago Gibbos departure probably wouldve seen similar feeling towrds him that are being shown to Fifita, he had a few flaws in his game….but it must be just pure hard work has seen him gain the respect that imo he deserves.
I seen it here grow....I remember when most couldnt stand him....understandably too....he's a clown and a joker but to play in the toughest position (starting) in the toughest comp in the world is quite an achievement.

Many dont understand half the penaltys he will give away are tactical breather type penaltys...that in itself takes some skill

10 years up this year too.

I always thought those early penalties in the game were a result of a hot head. That was an area of Bryce's game that really improved over the last couple of seasons.

A lot of us were sorry to see Bryce go. I know this wasn't always the case, but the last couple of years despite his injuries, his form had been very good and he proved an excellent foil for Galloway. I always felt with Gibbs on the field, the Tigers defence would always be good around the ruck, and his go forward had also improved over the last 2-3 years. I've got no doubt Blair will fill the void, but it will be strange seeing Gibbs in Sharks colours.

Dunno about the tactical penalties part but yeah, my opinion of Gibbs has certainly changed over the last couple of years. Its sad he couldn't finish as a one club player

He certainly gave it his best shot right to the end. My opinion of him as a player was a lot higher towards the end.

There were definately times Bryce gave away a penalty on purpose. Mostly with one of his amazing cover tackles and mainly early in a set so it really cost the opposition momentum. Ive said it before….but Gibbs is defensively as good as Glenn Lazarus

wish we could do a moltzen and keep him.
he'll be missed, true tiger blood.

Gibbs will be missed. His line speed in defence was the best in the team. You could really notice when he wasnt on the field as the team would suddenly start giving away metres in defence and stand back and wait for the opposition to come to them.

Gibbs copped alot of flack for giving away silly penalties, but he once mentioned that when he gave a stupid penalty away it was basically to slow the opposition because the rest of the team werent back and were struggling. He was basically instructed to be the fall guy at times.

I liked Bryce. Was always a fan of his but became more of a favourite in the last couple of years. It will be sad not to see him with us. He will be missed.

Agreed.

Bryce Gibbs is the fittest prop the game has seen in years.

His 2010 semi against the Dragons was the greatest effort of any front row forward I have ever seen in 35 years of following the game.

He was the glue that held our pack together. He is a major loss.

He certainly matured into a fine player over the last couple of years, but I believe his best years are still ahead of him - unfortunately not with us, though.

I like Gibbs, he will be missed.
I think we are giving too much credit saying that half the penalties he gave were deliberate professional penalties , altho these did happen on occasion , he had problems with discipline in the ruck. He has fixed this in the last few years.
I wish him well and hope that woods can develop into a player that can perform Gibbs role.
I agree his performance in the 2010 finals was amazing.

I agree.
for Bryce's sake would be pleasing to see him go onto better things at the sharks.
like play rep footy again.
maybe score a try or two..

Gibbs is a fine example of how props usually get better with age.

I hate Sharks, but I hope Gibbs kills it and gets recognition. He is very underrated by the NRL fan community, probably as a result of reputation from his younger days.

Will always look back on Bryce's time with us positively - he made a great contribution to the club.

It's time now however to look forward and throw our support behind Adam Blair and the other new guys.

Oddly enough, being at the Sharkies is not a huge hinderance to your representative aspirations. Sure you will never win a comp, but you might snag a SOO guernsey.

I have always had a lot of time for Gibbsy, to me he was typical of a young local kid who worked his way up through the juniors to grade, formed a bond with his other young Wests Tigers brothers, went on to be part of a premiership winning team and didn't stop there but continued to develop his game in what many will say is the toughest position on the field. As a supporter of Wests Tigers I will miss him playing for us but I wish him all the best and will support him when he isn't playing against us. The highlight for me when at the members day last year was when I spotted Gibbsy leaving the area where players were signing apparel for supporters, he was leaving, I asked him to sign a piece of apparel, he turned around, walked back and signed it and had a kind word to say.
