yeh the tigers forwards did fantastically tonight.
im glad i never had to tackle any burgi in my day!!
What position did you play? I had big bastards running at me all the time and I was a lightweight prop (weighed about 13 stone), we had big bastards in our side too but they had no ticker so I was given the job of tight-head prop. No and it wasn't C Grade I was forced into prop until I was 36\. Those were the days
full back. i loved playing there tbh, loved the pressure of taking bombs and being the last line of defence when someone made a break, and also being on the end of a lot of set plays.
typical back - glory hunter!!
obviously, if someone the size of a burgess did run at me the only thing you can do is put your body on the line and hit them as hard as you can, so my comment was in jest. still, id much rather tackle a luke brooks than a thaiday or kasiano!
i wasnt big for a league player (around 80kgs when playing) by any means, but fortunately had good tackling technique and always always tackled around the hips: amazing how you can put a big guy on his back with the right technique.
what annoys me a bit is when smaller guys try to tackle the big guys up high and get pushed off? i just dont get it! i can understand when you are trying to wrap the ball up to stop them scoring, but surely you are better off hitting them around the hips than being steamrolled?
another thing i loved about full back was that i just had to do my job there, while the forwards did all the hard work! i really appreciated them and found that for the most part they were always very unselfish players too (not like a certain centre i used to play with who never passed!).
i remember a particular back rower getting tackled right on the line and he offloaded to me to score the easiest of tries when he could very easily have scored himself. that sort of thing was one of the things i loved about rugby league.
