Anyone hear that Sonny Bill Williams is in talks with Newcastle and NZ Warriors for this year? I think he should be banned from the NRL for life after what he did. Anyway the Dogs say $BW can't join any other club until 2013\. I think they said 2013.

While I'm not trying to stick up for the guy, he was heavily influenced by those around him when he made the mad decision to walk out on the doggies. I think he would have his head in the right space now and be given a second chance to play in the NRL. He is wasted in Rugby Union. The man should be allowed to come back, playing the game that made him successful but there should be all sorts of conditions in his contract. Don't ask me what those conditions should be, but they should fully protect the Warriors from something like this happening again (not that SBW would be stupid enough to do it again).

Long story short: Yes, get him back in the NRL, and back in a KIWIS jersey

They said they want compensation as he is technically still contracted with

I think they want compensation as he is still apparently contracted with them. What annoys me is, he isn't appart of their salary cap yet they still lay claim to his services if another club is to sign him.

Why should the NRL ban him for life? People need to get past the whole saga…

Because what he did to his team mates and supporters. I doubt he would have left if they were a chance of winning the comp. The players and the fans looked up to him and he deserted them when they needed him most. Also he broke a contract. The NRL shouldn't let him back.

Ahhh you just want him to come back because it benfits the Kiwis

Breaking a contract then being allowed to play in the same comp for another team - a few years later or not - sets a dangerous precedent. The NRL will be aware of this and they'll be aware that, despite predictions, the game lost nothing with him leaving. Even superstars are replaceable.

Apart from that, I couldn't care less if I never heard about a Sonny-Bill Williams again.

Sonny Bill Williams' return price skyrockets to $2.5m
Dean Ritchie From: The Daily Telegraph March 09, 2010 12:00AM

CANTERBURY chief executive Todd Greenberg yesterday dramatically bumped up his compensation price for Sonny Bill Williams to $2.5 million, with the club's fans and former greats split over whether the former Bulldogs star should be allowed to play at another NRL club.

The Daily Telegraph yesterday revealed the Bulldogs wanted $1 million from the New Zealand Warriors should the Auckland club sign Williams, who is off contract with French rugby club Toulon in June.

But Greenberg yesterday revised his payout figure, saying his club wanted $2.5 million to let Williams - under contract at Belmore until 2013 - play elsewhere in the NRL.

Asked was $1 million a fair compensation amount, Greenberg said: "I assume you are talking about $1 million for each year? We don't have a set figure in mind but no doubt it would be significant. How long is a piece of a string?"

Steve Mortimer, Canterbury's top dog, reckons that Williams should be forgiven for having walked out on the Bulldogs.

"I think he should be able to play [elsewhere] if the Dogs are compensated," Mortimer said.

"I think what he did will be hurting Sonny more than anyone else.

"Hopefully this has been a lesson in life for Sonny Bill. And I hope he has learnt from it.

"If he had hung in there and toughed it out, he would have got the rewards last year when the Bulldogs went so well.

"As I said, as long as the Bulldogs are paid, I would let him play.

"The door is always open."

Canterbury fans made their thoughts known in a Daily Telegraph online poll yesterday, with more than 75 per cent of respondents voting against allowing Williams back into the NRL.

Bulldogs Army supporters club member Darren Barrett was also against seeing Williams sign with the Warriors.

"I want him to come back to the Bulldogs - but only if he apologised to the club, the fans, teammates and sponsors for doing his midnight run," Barrett said.

"If he doesn't come here, then he shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere else.

"There was a lot of pain for Bulldogs fans when he walked out. When the going got tough, he simply said: 'I've had enough'.

"We weren't winning that year so he just left us."

Another Dogs fan to call the Telegraph yesterday said: "We have moved on - if we get the money then we should take it."

One blogger wrote online yesterday: "Don't do it Greenberg. Stuff the cash."

Another added: "I wouldn't let this brat even enter Australia."

The Warriors have stated that Williams would "put bums on seats" at their matches.

I think 2.5mil is abit much.. personally I think dogs should forgive and forget..
That aside in an interview shortly after he left dogs he said that he would never want to return to NRL.. and in all these articles Im reading Im yet to hear him actually say he would consider coming back.

Good on todd Greenberg…Williams is a low life liar and an untrustworthy piece of crap.

He took a big dump on this game and we should never forgive him for it.
