Storm players signed 2 seperate contracts-if you don't think that is cheating then I would love to live on your planet. Cheats are cheats,,, Inglis, Smith, Slater, Gallen etc are all only still playing in the NRL because of their profile…the NRL are a corrupt organization that rewards corruption. Prove differently if you disagree.
So the player manager says to Smith at a later stage , you have got a contract upgrade ??
How would the player know different FTB ??
The player wouldn't give two hoots , show me the money ??

If you get the chance I highly recommend reading the book Storm Cloud: The Real Story Behind Melbourne Storms Demise and Resurrection. It details the whole salary cap cheating scandal. Personally I can't see how the players would not have been aware that it was a bit strange the way there own contracts were managed. Certainly the player managers were aware and were punished.
It also gives an interesting insight as to how the salary cap is managed by clubs and the issues that they face.

@GNR4LIFE said:Sooner or later you got to let the hate go, cos the only person its hurting is you.
@Fade To Black said:If I dislike something I dislike it or them, I don't just put my tree-hugger hat on and pretend I like it. Every time I see or hear cheatin Cam Smith I want to punch holes in things. That is healthy! If you want to live life thinking everything and everyone is fantastic then that is your choice, good luck with it. Cameron Smith is a cheat…bottom line.
@spearby said:give us a break the club is responsible for the salary cap NOT THE PLAYERS smith is one of the of the great players will be an immortal when he retires
@fergiefurr said:The other thing to remember is that Cameron Smith IS HIS OWN MANAGER!!! The only people who were punished in all of this mess were the player managers, yet Smith got off completely scott free and has never ONCE been questioned in the media about it. It was widely acknowleged that the managers knew exactly what was going on, why wasnt Smith punished for his role then?
@GNR4LIFE said:Fair enough, but why are we rehashing it 5 yrs later? Hardly think anything said in this thread won't be anything that has already been said 100 times over the last 5 yrs. Old news.
@fergiefurr said:All the people defending Smith are completely ignorant and using illegitament excuses that Smiths mates in the media use.
It doesnt matter if Smith knew they were well over the cap or not, even if he didnt what they were doing was highly illegal. The players were signing two contracts, one registered by the NRL, one not.

Not to mention that the Storm players involved genuinaly believe they are the victims in all of this and have never once admitted being in the wrong. They openly say they deserved the Premierships becuase they 'worked hard.' Of course they did!! Yet so did every other team in the comp, and they didnt have the unfair advantage that the Storm did.

What's to say FF that the club acted like they were giving an initial contract to Smith and then a few days later then write another contract saying they were giving him extra money and signing another contract ??
Would you as a player then question what was happening to the original contract ?? Show me the money
The problem with all of this is it was way too risky for the club having players know that they have two contracts With how quickly things can breakdown between CEO's , players and coaches in the modern game (Farah and Mayer is a great example ) that the club could be destroyed
Players could hold clubs to absolute ransom with that sort of info
I'm sorry I just don't buy into it

If that is old news what about the hate against Manly that still keeps cropping up after the poaching they were perceived to have carried out at least 30 years ago.
