Campbelltown Council Stadium submission

If you build it, they will come

And what if they won't?

There is an 80k stadium literally a 40 minute train ride from Campbeltown. There is another 20k or so in parramatta. There is absolutely no need for another one.

Like i said, we won't be the only team to use it. Other codes would get in on it. I'm sure WSW would love it, considering they have to turn them away. Might as well get behind it, its in one of our heartlands for crying out loud and people try to make excuses as to why we shouldn't have our own purpose built stadium. Only WT's fans.

WSW is happy with parra stadium afaik. Again, why can't they use ANZ for soccer as well? Footy and soccer fields are similar size and shape aren't they?

Sports is a huge deal in nsw and I respect that. I love all three codes of football, cricket, soccer everything I just don't see the need of building another stadium esp when the govt doesn't even have the money for Medicare.

The NRL crowd average is barely 15k. Dogs tigers eels no one deserves to have millions spent on them. WSW is 2 years old, they don't deserve it either.

SCG also just got the upgrade. GWS is not getting enough suporters yet at skoda either. They already have a half ready stadium in blacktown iirc.

Again, arguing against your own club having their very own purpose built stadium with upgraded facilities. Absolutely bizarre. Twilight zone stuff.

Haha sorry if it seems that way, I'm not trying to be some sort of a saint. Every club is part of a community- a stadium thereabouts isn't benefiting the community in any way.

Where will they come from?
Campbelltown already has a great oval for watching footy. And a good athletics field adjoining it. Money could be spent on little improvements.
The northern beaches population is around 250,000 and Brooky holds 20,000\. Which seems about the right size, maybe a tad small for growth.
Campbelltown district (including 33 surrounding towns ) population is 150 000\. Which is why currently about 10 000 turn up to WT games played there.
Say over the next couple decades the area doubles to 300 000\. This is still along way short of the population of Greater Western Sydney that is already 2 million plus.
I agree money needs to be spent at Campbelltown, but don't just throw it all into one mega stadium.

We can easily set up permanent residence at a place like this and there is very little downside to it. If we can still nurture tons of credible juniors into first grade from New Zealand via the bloody Gold Coast I am absolutely sure we can maintain our junior programs in the inner west while the NRL Club is based in Campbelltown. The Balmain junior pathways will continue exactly as they are. It's not until they get to NYC that they even need to worry about "parents driving them" or any such thing.

We could work on redeveloping our waning pathways out of the Macarthur area at little to no cost on our Balmain ones. There are more St Gregs kids in the NRL now that play for other teams than play for Wests and that is stupid. Even so, we probably still have the best rate of juniors in the top squad of any club. Reestablishing ourselves in the Macarthur area would fix a massive issue, pretty much the only issue we have in that regard.

This would be a huge coup for us and I hope it happens.

Can't really see a downside to this?

The gov wont even think about a stadium in Cambo if the tigers dont commit to it fulltime.

Agree 100%

WT should do it now to lock in the south west.

My money is that Parramatta or Penrith stadiums will be upgraded. Cambelltown won't even get a look in. It will be interesting to see if that changes in the next 6 months but I doubt it.

You could turn Campbelltown Stadium into the Taj Mahal and people still wouldn't go there - about time everyone acknowledged that it's not the stadium, but where it is, that keeps people away.

I actually think that the NSW Government may build a new rectangular stadium in Sydney's west, just have a feeling that they are looking at it.

If they do it will be either at Parramatta or Liverpool/Fairfield, Penrith is too far away and the major summer tenant WSW want nothing to do with home games at Penrith.

Liverpool/Fairfield with its strong soccer base is looked at favourably by the WSW (if they were to move away from Parramatta) and if the Bulldogs and Tigers got on board you would have at least 3 tenants, making it the most viable option.

Whats keeping people away from Leichhardt then, cos lately the crowds there haven't been much better.

I still don't agree with any public money being spent on any stadium construction or upgrade.

Far more pressing fiscal concerns

Hasn't Abbott guaranteed $10 million of commonwealth money (i.e. mine and yours taxes) for Brookvale? At the same time as overseeing a budget that will savage the poorer families (i.e. not the families of Brookvale)? That's the gold plated standard of hypocricy that Abbott stands for, leads by and expects of his ministers. And, most deliver in spades! Much to my embarrassment and disgust and, thankfully, ….. to a growing number of voters as well.
