We had one of these on the old forum.

Does anyone have any news on the major upgrade of Campbelltown?
There is a really cool site on the net that has some good pics:
http://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/default.asp?iNavCatID=92&iSubCatID=2930" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The upgrades sound great.

-Capacity increase of 5000
-New corporate/function facilities
-New ticket offices
-General upgrade of other facilities

sorry about the small size

So the Western grandstand is not increasing its capacity?only terrace seating either side? increase 5000
or 3100 pease tell me Im wrong.Corporate facilities e.t.c great news but what about the expansion of the
western grandstand the way I read this is its just terrace seating. 😕 😕 😕

by the sounds/looks of it, it's just the terrace seating that's increasing on each side.
alot of the behind the scenes stuff is being upgraded though, media facilities, dressing rooms, corporate facilities etc. but i agree the western stand could use an upgrade too.

does anyone know what the leichhardt oval off-season renovations are?

IT HAD BEEN REPORTED ON AMPLE OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT THE MEDIA THAT THE WESTERN GRANDSTAND WAS GETTING ADDITIONAL SEATING IM NOW A LITTLE SKEPTICAL OF THE 8 MILLION DOLLAR TAG.

Does anyone know what is being done at LO? At least they must be replacing/repairing the old wooden seats in front of the hill as at every visit last season i saw someone go arse over as they snapped from under them. Very funny but a bit dangerous.

The grandstands are way too small at Campbelltown. For me an upgrade is grandstands on either side of the park from tryline to tryline. I dont think we'll see much change at Campbelltown. It has potential. Maybe the next generaton will pick it up.

I have never seen it reported that the Western Stand was getting additional seating. The changes to the Western Stand are mainly corporate, media and a total refurbishment. It also seems like the Western Stand will have some sort of function room from the pics on the councils website. New dressing sheds are also been built and the Western Stand will take up more of the land behind it.

The Eastern Stand is been extended with terrace seating to run the length of the field. About 10 rows of terrace seating will also be behind both ends with a hill behind this seating (which isn't shown in the pics on the website, but is definately been done)

$8mill doesn't get you much. A new Western Stand will cost much much more than that and not really a realistic viable option for a casual sports venue.

The stadium will look much better with seating all around it and provide a seating option now in the GA category. The 25k capacity is perfect for rugby league.

The other topic on the old forum had more details.

Drove past Leichhardt on Friday, the carpark near the pools seems to be getting some work done to it.

we must have been reading different papers staks I do agree 8million doesnt get you much when it comes to grandstands thats why i was confused how it was gonna cost only 8 mil to start with but now lets hope the 8 mil is spent well good to see renos happen but tell me is it 5000 more seats or 3100.

From memory it is was around the 3k mark. But might have increased with seats going all around the ground now. All the info media reports are on the the old forum. Maybe Kul can import the Leichhardt and Campbelltown upgrade threads into here somehow.

It'd be nice if the roof covered more than the last three rows of the grandstand too…

 Amen to that….......didn't make much difference in the Western 'Skando' Stand against the Panthers 2 years ago.......it was coming down sideways............

As has been mentioned and from what I have seen driving past campbelltown stadium, and from the plans tere is only ging to be more seating in the lower part of the western grandstand. However all the seats are being replaced (last I saw the entire side is currently concrete, no seats at all). Also the corporate boxes are being upgrade, the exterior of the ground on the western side is being completely redone (including something to do with access to the train station, but I am nt exactly sure what that bit is) plus there is to be a lift aded to the western grandstand. On the eastern side there will be more seating along the sidelines so both sides of the field will have seating extending to the goals. (I didn't know about the seats behind the goals though).

Including the rest of the upgrades mentioned that would easily cost $8 million, it isn't cheap to do these sort of upgrades (a ful stadium runs into the hundreds of millions, in comparison this is really only a minor upgrade).

The last upgrade was $20 million and look at what was done (really not a lot). It would have been smarter to use the entire $20 million on the stadium rather than on the stadium and ahletics track.

It was the Campbelltown Council that got the funding. Some of the funding went to the athletics track to support sport in the local area. One or more of the national athletics teams trained there just before or during the 2000 Olympics. The Japanese team I think.

The back of the western stand is already being worked on (the top part). Must be the media facilities. I saw it about 2 weeks ago. You can see it from the train if you catch the train to Leumeah. Also all the seats in the western stand are gone. That happened ages ago though. Anyone who went to some of the last Magpies games there this year would have seen it. The front half of the hills will also be seated area. Also I have heard that there will be 2 extra bays on each side of each stand.

I have read that the capacity of the stadium is increasing by 5,000\. Capacity is around 22,000 now. So 27,000 must be the capacity when the upgrades are complete. Perfect :sunglasses:

Now lets just hope they finish it all in time for Wests to play 4 home games there next year…

Not 'some' but 'most' of that funding went to the Athletics Field.

Unless the plan has changed then around 10 rows of seating will also be put in behind the posts. It has already been concreted by all reports so I doubt they are just going to leave concrete there.

When I went to the last Magpies games at Campbelltown this year the front half of the hills were already being dug up and evened out so it was obvious that they were having seats in the front part of the hills.

How could that athletics field cost more than the eastern stand and hills? I find that very hard to believe.

Yeah the last upgrade was $22 million and I guess most of that went towards building the eastern stand.

Here is some more information on the upgrade that's happening now…

You would be surprised how much it cost turning a cow paddock into a first rate athletics field.

If anyone is in the area and has the time some pics of the upgrade would be appreciated

Found this pic on the porject companys website -

Shows the area behind the Western Stand, lift, corporate facilities etc

Nothing exciting but its something I guess.

More info from Council minutes 13/10/09 - http://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/upload/cqqew87592/CGAgenda091013.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Federal Government has committed $8 million to upgrade the Campbelltown Sports Stadium by early 2010\. The upgrade will include additional seating and amenities to the spectator areas, lift access to all levels of the western grandstand as well as upgrades to corporate facilities, players change areas, media, catering and toilet facilities.
Construction commenced in mid 2009 with the main focus being the new seats around the playing field, construction of a 200,000 litre water harvesting tank, air conditioning to the eastern grandstand and the concrete slab construction of the new players change rooms and function room. The project is expected to be completed by March 2010.

Council has received approval from RailCorp to commence the construction of a pedestrian overbridge over the rail corridor, to link the Campbelltown Stadium directly to the carparks on the western side of the rail line, to improve access to the stadium. Works are anticipated to commence in early 2010.

You said "most of that funding" Stax. $22 million was spent on Campbelltown Stadium/Athletics field. So you're saying that more than $11 million was spent on the athletics field?

I'll see what I can do Stax..
