Can't post the link .

Not surprising. I didn't ever think Cleary was gonna strip him of it.

Cleary might be giving him the opportunity to do the right thing and step aside.

Why isn't Cooper Cronk on the list. Throw the war chest at him. Offer him 3 mil over 2 years. Why the hell not.

But how will improve ET's game or the team around him ??

As I said a few years ago , sometimes you need to make someone captain that will help them as a player and help the team improve

Before Taupau left I suggested him as a captain , make him more mature and less penalty prone , get him more involved , take a larger responsibility in the players around him

That's what I think we need again to look at

Just because a bloke makes 45 tackles every week doesn't make him a captain or the fact he has been through the mill as a player with injuries

Sue could even be that player , get him being more mature and controlled on the footy field

Using that criteria my choice would be Brooks.

That's who I initially suggested but was shouted down

**I honestly think that none of them could lead thirsty cattle to water but anyway ….**

I agree, and therein lies another of our problems. I always thought Woods got the gig for lack of a good option and think that is still the case. Part of our recruitment needs to be a big name that can do the role justice.

Aaron Woods to remain Wests Tigers captain, for now

Matt Encarnacion

Wests Tigers coach Ivan Cleary says Aaron Woods is likely to remain captain for the rest of the NRL season despite the club withdrawing a contract extension on Friday.

Woods and star fullback James Tedesco are all but certain to leave Concord at the end of the year after the pair failed to accept deals that would have kept them at the club long-term.

Woods is believed to be close to announcing a move to the team the Tigers coincidentally face on Sunday in Canterbury, and still retain the captaincy duties.

"At this stage, Aaron's the captain of the club and he'll remain that," Cleary said on Saturday.

Asked if Woods would keep the role for the rest of the year, Cleary said: "I would be very surprised if that didn't happen. I mean, he's the captain.

"I'm sure this is a difficult process for everyone involved, but he's the captain of the team. And I'm sure he'll show that tomorrow."

Cleary was reluctant to comment further on the pair's decision to let Friday's contract deadline pass without reaching out to the club, but was determined to move on in the marketplace.

More than 200 players are currently without a secure future beyond the end of the season, including reported targets Gareth Widdop, Josh Reynolds and Ben Matulino

Cleary, who was only appointed as head coach less than three weeks ago, admitted change was difficult for all concerned at the club.

"The reality is, there's a professional environment and everybody's got different ideals and goal. I, and we, respect everyone's goals and that's how we'll always be," he said.

"We are going to change at this club. The reality is, history shows there hasn't been sustained success. So that's what we're going to try and gauge. Looking forward to doing it."

The former Warriors and Penrith coach is adamant the rebuild won't necessarily be a painfully long one, citing his combined 10 years of experience across his previous clubs.

"There's no doubt that there's a big job ahead. Fortunately for me I've been involved in that before. I understand the ramifications. I understand the dynamics of it all," he said.

Don't agree with Woods remaining captain but anything can happen over the next few weeks…

But I am even more glad now that we got Ivan to be in charge.

SMH quoting Cleary saying Bulldog Woods to remain captain for the rest of season .I do not mind this, after every game Bulldog will have to front the media as captain ..Cleary is a smart operator emotion aside this keeps the ship upright ,psychologically a clever decision.

He should abandon his captaincy…. the only honourable thing to do.
It should be a tough rest of the year for those 3 players .... and so it should be.
Any slip up in form and off to reserve grade ranks.

Cleary was hesitant in saying it and didn't say for the rest of the season. He more so said that nothing has been sorted out yet, in other words he hasn't been signed by another club and will remain captain for this weeks game.
