Centers / wingers playing second row

Ken Maddison went from a Centre at St George in 2 Grand Finals to Second Row at Cronulla and won a Kangaroos spot on the 1973 Tour and the Rothmans Medal around the same time and lost the 1973 GF.

One of my old favourites was Jason Lidden who started at 5/8 or centre and ended up in the backrow. Had plenty of skills and a great offload. He would have been starting off at the same time that Schubert was finishing his career in the forwards.

Brett Plowman seemed to often switch back and forth between wing and 2nd row. Wasn't great at either, but was hard to tackle if he got wound up.

John Muggleton certainly kicked on after the move, becoming one of the best back rowers in the game (if not the best) for a few years. Sadly he took the cash and moved on from the old Tigers as they were experimenting with the change.

i knew John.

he was my homeroom teacher and commerce teacher for a year at high school

Another was Trevor Ryan - Balmain captain during a period in the 70s and early '80s. He was exceptional in being able to move from centre to second row and back again depending on the needs of the team. (He came to the club as a centre from Nambucca Heads in '72 and played for NSW as a second rower). Good tough competitor.

I went to school with Brett and gave him some lip about his girlfriend at the time

He punched me in the chest and I thought I was going to have a heart attack

Thank God I got on with him

He wasn''t that hard to deal with if you got up quick on him
