CEO Message re; Coach

I don't like the sound of this…..'many areas'....surely performance against stated goals should be adjusted when you realise the amount of players lost due to injuries...our early momentum was clearly disrupted by injuries to key players and we have never had the same team on the park two weeks in the row and have been hurt in a number of games by the concussion rule.

Consultants invariably say what you want them to say. Are there secret agendas at work against Potter? In my eyes this season has already been a success despite the factors listed above. Hopefully the review is being used by Potter and Mayer to support the changes they feel necessary to make us a long-term force,

**Coach - Mick Potter**
Over the past week there has been much speculation about the future of Mick Potter at the Wests Tigers. I’d like to take this opportunity to clarify to our Members and Corporate Partners the Club’s position on this important decision.

First and foremost, I have no desire to enter a public debate on this topic. Opinion and unnamed sources does nothing but jeopardise the team’s focus on making the NRL finals. It's unhelpful and distracting at a time that we all need to be single minded about achieving a well-publicised 2014 goal of making the top eight.

Running concurrent to the push to the finals is the Board’s decision on our coaching structure and Head Coach for 2015\. We’ve had independent input to this process and a number of players and staff have been consulted. The results of this review have highlighted many areas to address and we will do so privately and without public comment. These decisions will not be rushed and will be made with the best interests of Wests Tigers in mind. We understand that people want to know what is happening at the Club but please know that delicate and important decisions like this should not be influenced by any external sources. Our Members and Corporate Partners are most important to us and will continue to receive information from the Club as top priority.

Reading between the lines..Potter is as good as gone….Good luck Mayer finding a suitable replacement!...it ain't Payten or Kidwell

They have to realise how important timing is. New players won't sign with us if we don't have a good coach and there are not even two good centres in the market right now.

Whether we sign potter or not shouldn't be about how we finish this season. It should be about what potter can do in the next few years and if he has the ability to further nurture our young players.

I've said it before- Potters job description for his first two years will be completely different to the next few. Judging his ability on how we finish this season is completely useless IMO.

Hope we make the right decision. I understand how difficult it must be with the crappy board in charge and lack of funds.

If Potter falls on his sword for picking blokes like Lulia who he himself signed to the club so be it,the same players make the same mistakes week after week, this is the coaches fault,he either drops them or teaches them,Potter has done neither.

I've never agreed with GM approach, I don't like the way he is open with issues. You don't ever get anything concrete out of him. He usually announces news when the public is to find out, but makes it out as if we're the first to know.
On Potter, reading GM, he's gone, otherwise why would you come out to make a statement if there was nothing to comment about. He hasn't buried speculation, he's just driven the last nail in the coffin. Now that the ball is rolling it will be a lot easier for GM to act faster.
I just hope the next decision is the right one, because GM is slowly becoming bigger than the club. A good CEO is what we really need to turn the place around. Bring Noyce back. GM go away.

Good post!

I struggle to see what will change under Payten or Kidwell.
This is such an important decision to make given the amount of young and talented players we have on our roster. I sincerely hope that the board makes the correct decision.

It is quite simple: we should only sack Potter if there is better on offer. Bennett is well outside our price range and those that are available are not an improvement.

There are issues bigger than just the coach. I believe we will struggle to be competitive on consistent basis until the HPU has been significantly invested in.

The sharks aside , we not close off being the basket case of the NRL IMO

That will change once Flanagan comes back and if the asada thing disappears IMO. Their squad is good enough for a top 8 if they get a good half.

Raiders are really crap ATM.

I'm not just talking about our position on the ladder tig_prmz .
It's the lack of stability at the club IMO
The membership department is useless
The merchandise department is useless
3 home grounds ( we only need one)
The front office / board members are useless
Lack of funds & corporate dollars
Sack the coach rumours every year etc .. etc …
I myself are worried about the future of this club .

Mayer, the master of spin has just fired his first shot and I get the feeling our man Potts will be gone within weeks.

It will be back to square one once again with yet another three year plan under a new coach, probably Payten or Kidwell, and in the short term the players will all be very happy again, till they decide to turn on the new coach and we can have another three year plan under another coach.

People wonder why this club is always on struggle street

The club can't afford to get rid of Potter early. If WT make the 8 Potter stays, finish 9th or below he goes. Simple.

Also if this is player led then what a bunch of babies. Its like the Warriors tanking to get Elliott fired…

On the outside it would appear to be a dumb move to get rid of him, there was a massive improvement at the start of the year and then injuries hit which has disrupted things.

If there are issues with the players wanting him gone, who's to say they won't have issues with the new coach and we don't go through this again?
