Message from the CEO

Firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Jason Taylor on behalf of the Wests Tigers Board of Directors for his efforts during his two and a half years with the Club. Jason oversaw significant change in this organisation and we thank him for his role in that and wish him well for the future.

I want to make clear that we made the decision to remove the coach yesterday because we want to play finals football again – something we haven’t done since 2011.

We want to build a strong player list that play together for a long time and we want to turn this Club into a powerhouse in the NRL.

And as a club, we will make the strong calls that need to be made to achieve this.

I’d also like to make it clear that as administrators we’re here to provide an environment that allows our players and coaches to focus on regularly playing finals football. It is the team that takes the field but it is the club that provides an environment to ensure we have the culture that enables players to play to their potential.

Again, we will make the hard decisions to give our players and coaching staff the tools they need to ensure we can - and regularly do – play finals football.

There’s never a right time for this type of decision to be made, but we decided that we were not prepared to allow this Club to drift through another season.

In recent years we’ve worked hard at lifting the bar in all areas of the organisation and yesterday’s decision is another example of that.

We have lifted the bar with our match day experience and as a consequence had the highest average crowd of any Sydney Club last season.

We have lifted the bar with our Membership offering and communication to Members and last year had our highest ever Membership tally, with just under 15,000 committing to the Club. This year we’re on track to beat that number.

We have lifted the bar in our commercial department and commercial offerings and as a result have sold all of our major properties for 2017\. We’re building great partnerships with a wide range of organisations and that will continue to grow into the future.

We have lifted the bar in building the leadership capabilities of our players and improving the wider Club culture. We want our players to work together on and off the field and are giving them the tools to be able to do this and to be able to have honest discussions with each other about what is needed on and off the field to achieve success.

We have lifted the bar in the level of capability of our staff, we’ve built up our high performance department, we’ve increased our wellbeing offering from one staff to four and as a result are now ranked second in the NRL in this area.

We have lifted the bar in our community engagement and now offer more than 34 genuine programs in six pillars and are looked at as a leader in the game in this area. We don’t just want to play in the West – we want to be an important part of the West community and a contributor to the community.

And finally we’ve lifted the bar in what we expect our players to do on the field and what we expect our coaching staff to do off it.

All of this is about doing one thing - creating a winning environment and a winning culture.

This is a Club that is now in a position to make the hard decisions at the right time. As custodians of this Club we’ll never allow Wests Tigers to be in the position again where decisions are being made that aren’t in the best interests of the future of the Club.

This is a Club that has a rich history and we’re incredibly proud of that history.

But we’re here to build a Club that will have a strong future and want to ensure that the players, staff, Members and Corporate Partners all want to be a part of that future.

You, as stakeholders, deserve to have a winning Club and we need to deliver that.

Speaking to Andrew Webster today his is fully committed to his role and the job he needs to do for us. He and the entire coaching staff and our full list of players are solely focused on this weekend. As far as they’re concerned it’s business as usual.

The next step for this organisation is to get the right outcome in regards to the Head Coach position and we’re committed to following a clear and rigorous process to ensure we get the right person. It may be in three weeks, it may be in three months but our clear focus is on finding the right person to take this Club forward.

Wests Tigers has been built on the loyal and continued support of our Members and our supporters.

I want to thank you for your support of the Club and I look forward to seeing many of you at Leichhardt Oval this Sunday.

Justin Pascoe
Wests Tigers CEO

I don't get the outcry. People called for Taylor's head for pretty much his entire tenure and he finally gets punted and people still aten't satisfied

Well Pascoe and the club has definitely lifted a lot of bars in different areas….If only the team could lift themselves higher on the ladder in the coming weeks, then this message will have some significance, especially if they can lift up into the 8....wouldn't that be something...

TELL ME THIS

Why couldn't Mr Pascoe arrange this ambush in the off season when we had to rely on old wives gossip to keep the forum interesting - it is shocking to now interfere with our footie games concentration and enjoyment.

Quite ironic isn't it! In any event, I hope we get the right coach, but more importantly, sign the right players for next season. If we aren't on the lookout for a couple of centres and backrowers right now, we're in trouble.

Some people are just never happy.

Maybe its the realisation that JT wasn't the only problem.

I don't know about this response from Pascoe as it looks desperate to me and trying to justify himself in the face of all the negative media about the competency of management and board. Most fans are only really interested in the results of games and not how many bars he has raised in the fluffy areas. You see this a lot in big corporates when they are under performing and given the composition of the board it doesn't surprise. Just look at what has happened in the past 6 weeks, Lovett, Simona, JT and to find out the 4 players have had contracts tabled in November and wont make a decision it seems there is much more bad news to come. Who would have thought after the past 2 years of continual turmoil and underperformance we would have to go through more crap in 2017.

Trouble is, if we don't sign a coach soon we'll miss out on all the descent centres and second rowers.
Not many left now.

good players still around..

I just hope we can actually defend one set of six on our line for a change. Imagine that 😁😂😉

I like what Pascoe is doing and the changes he has implemented across the club

I don't think there is much more he can do in a situation like this, other than to make sure the right people fill key positions.

He now has the job of finding a first grade coach, and of negotiating deals with key players. I will withhold final judgement until i see how he handles these decisions.

It's just a wall of words. Nothing to actually read as usual.
It's like they have a CEO handbook with the generic templates of responses.

we wont get chambers.

But id gor gerard beale. be cheaper and goes allright.

luke lewis, wade graham and sam tagatese are all off contract at sharks…

ryam hoffman and alex glenn too.

still quality around.

at the moment we need two centres, 2 second rowers and a halfback. Another prop would be good too..

The improvement - or lifting of the bar - in areas of S+C, game day highest home crowd averages, sponsorships, the huge increase in memberships arent just words. The other areas he speaks of I dont know.

Theyre improvements
It could be worse

So he pointing out some small positives to mask the fact we aren't successful and complete mess.
These are the sort of articles CEOs put out when under pressure.
It all means diddly squat because we constantly failing.
I don't care for these facts or stats he provides. Doesn't make me feel any better now that we are favorites for the spoon and the uncertainty regarding the playing group that is still unaddressed.

Yeah everything is great in Tiger town.

I, as a loyal Tigers supporter and member commend and praise Justin Pascoe. I don't suffer from memory lapses, or do I live my life with a selective memory. I'm very aware of the situation that Mr Pascoe inherited. Debt, Disunity, White Anting, Low Morale and an organisation all but out on its knees.
I'm also extremely pleased, that according to that 'Old Sleaze" Phil Rothfield, Mr Pascoe was considered by Phil Gould not up to the job of CEO at Penrith. I know the Tigers got lucky there. Now if you also don't suffer from memory lapses, nor have a selective memory, cast your mind back to when Mr Pascoe became CEO,and try to remember what challenges he was faced with. Debt, Disunity, White Anting, Low Morale and an organisation all but on its knees. The future may change my perspective, and I might have to concede that I was wrong. But I live in the present.
