Ch9 Pre Game Coverage

I've noticed the co-callers trying to be more analytical in coverage, Gould, Wally, Sterlo. I like it, leave the gibbering and over-the-top to Rabs.

Problem for 9 is they've committed to Rabs and Hadley, with Tim Gilbert as backup. Rabs is past his prime and the other two aren't nearly as good as Fox's primary callers - Vossy, Warren Smith and Joel Caine.

I think Joel Caine has a massive future , i really rate him and it seems it comes natural to him.

Rabs is so far past it that it's not funny. Purely there on reputation now. The challenging and sometimes condescending tone he takes with an actual great mind of the game in Gus I find to be disrespectful (Gus is prone to being a bit of a boisterous know-it-all at times as well, but he's done enough in the game to show he knows what he is talking about,) and his constant stuff ups are an embarrassment to the game.

Put the silly old fool out to pasture. Hadley is an OK caller, but he's a s**tbag of a human being results in me not watching his calls unless it's the Tigers playing.

I would take Rabs any day over the Raaaay Wally Locky n Sterlo circle jerk they dished up on Friday night….pathetic...

It was on Friday night hearing Rabs trying to sound hip by referencing Harry Potter and thinking the author's name was ''Rollings'' and that she was a guy. I'm about as familiar with Harry Potter as i am with performing brain surgery, but even i know how much that comment made the old man sound senile.

Imo Ray's use by date is well past( unfortunately)
But I'd hate to see Hadley get the main callers job. Half the time on air is a mumble and the other half is screaming.
Tim Gilbert is a lightweight, who I hope is temporary.
In rather have David Morrow, and/or Vossy, and I'd definitely keep Gus(whether you like him or not), the best football brain in the business

Might have been confused with Henry "Rollings"

I remember Sterlo calling a game a few years back .. He was brilliant !
Rabs is ok When Gould's not with him.
Tim Gilbert is the worst I've ever heard .. Period !

Same here. I hadn't heard him before this season, but he's (IMHO) the best at the moment. Nice natural call and obviously does a fair amount of homework.

Warren Smith is comfortably the best caller in the game.

Rabs is atrocious, this is unpopular, I don't think he was that good in his prime. Always changes tempo and style. He has never been accurate.

I used to love Daryl Eastlake was great for pure excitement.

Warren Smith has to be a WT's supporter :sign:

Pretty sure Warren Smith used to be a Balmain supporter. A few seasons ago they showed footage of him in the crowd cheering on Balmain in the major semi vs Souths in '89.

No doubt that Joel Caine knows his stuff but his monotone style is more suited to stating the odds than calling a blow-by-blow contest.

Warren Smith head and shoulders above the rest and it helps he likes the WT!

love pre game coverage in every sport.. love the experts analysing the big game

today's focus on centres was very knowledgable. the importance of centres in defense, how they create opportunities in attack was enlightening.

hope they continue doing this.

I have to disagree with you.

God they can rabble on and over analyze things , people just want to see the Footy .
That is the reason you have all the Footy Show's to do all that analyzing .
Let's talk about halfbacks :blah , let's talk Centre's :blah , let's talk about Issac Luke " get's out of dummy half to his left then will step of his left foot and link up with his right hand attacker's "
Even Freddy got stuck with what he had to say , it is all pre meditated dribble .

They do go on and on don't they. Like you FT i just want my footy.

Daryl was exciting to listen to. Very sad to hear he suffers from Alzheimer's disease, dementia and emphysema. :frowning:

Agree wholeheartedly with all of this. Never been a fan of Rabs. Smith is the commentator I most enjoy listening to. DE is my all time fav for big games.

Dont mind Voss although sometimes he tries to be too funny and he loves the sound of his own voice a bit too much.

Smith calls it straight and his knowledge of the game his second to none.

vossie is great imo!

definitely one of my favorites.

the triple M ones arent too bad either, sterlo is (obviously) amazingly astute.

I'll probably get howled down for this but I think Dan Ginane for triple M is a massively underrated caller. He's knowledgeable, humble, and gets excited which in turn gets you excited. His call of the inglis Johnston try on the radio the other day sent chills down my spine, and made me stop what I was doing to listen more to what he was saying.
