Ch9: Sheens to stay for 3 more years

hmm yeah look I'm happy with that, I guess.

The site would probably become too boring without Bug or a lot of us doing this :wtf about team selections.

Brilliant. Totally happy, there's no other coach available I'd rather have. A coach at the helm for this long at the same club is definitely a great thing; he has built and is continuing to build something special.

I hope the loyalty Sheens has shown will rub onto the players, I'm sure it will.

they've all signed long term contracts so they've already shown loyalty…n if u consider 2 final series appearences in almost 10 yrs as something special then ur easily pleased

But 1 of the times we got there we won the bloody whole lot didnt we ….and let me tell you i never thought it was ever going to happen it was a miracle that i think only sheens could do.3rd last year and just a touch of luck it could have been 2.lol

Before he come along what did either club do.JOKES

Is that right? Woods, Fifita and Dywer have all signed long term contracts? Get off it.

Sheens is the best available coach, like it or not. What he has done at the Tigers is massive, we have actually been a threat the past few seasons; the blame can't all be put on Sheens for not winning/being part of the final series - the players have to go out there and do the job and we've seen how many times some players have screwed that up for us… that's not Sheens' fault.

Seriously, sometimes people want change just for the heck of it.

Wow that is the definition of loyalty…. Well done sheensy...I'm happy!!! I hope this decision will be viewed by the younger guys and they too will stay loyal to the tigers... I note the terms are 3 years??? I'm sure Harry kicked in too... Happy!!!!!!

its signs of a great club when players and coach alike are knocking back big money offers to stay on board.
not to take anything away from sheens either who showed a great display of loyalty by doing this, regardless i think this was best for tigers

must admit was a bit nervous if Tim Sheens would stay  .
the offer was to good not to think about.
nice to see a that a coach show loyalty as well. :master:

Fantastic news.

Im laughing all these drama queens.haha

Yep - the sheens/moltzen haters look dumber than they usually do now.

We've got the genius pulling the strings and the moltz man at the back.

Good times !

What's Moltzen got to do with it?

I bracket the haters together. They have no vision.

i this on the facebook release

ímo we should have gone for a new coach, sheens was getting stale

and it gets deleted

Wests Tigers have confirmed coach Tim Sheens will stay with the NRL club, and knock back a huge offer from Penrith.
>
Sheens has decided to stay with the Tigers, reportedly for a further three years, rejecting an offer from the Panthers rumoured to be worth $2 million.
>
‘‘Wests Tigers is very pleased to announce respected head coach Tim Sheens will remain with the club after turning down an offer from Penrith,’’ a statement on the Tigers’ website read.
>
‘‘And in a major coup, Sheens has accepted a new three-year deal to remain Wests Tigers head coach until the end of 2014.’’
>
Sheens’ decision will come as a massive relief to the Tigers, whose board had ratified a new contract for the coach before the Panthers weighed in with a four-year deal.
>
Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys and captain Robbie Farah had expressed their desire for the four-time premiership winner to reach a decision quickly.
>
The Tigers will attempt to stem a two-game losing streak in Canberra on Sunday, while Sheens will announce his Kangaroos squad for next week’s Test against New Zealand on the same afternoon.
>
The 60-year-old began his coaching career at Penrith and took the club to the finals for the first time in 1985.
>
The Panthers announced last week that current boss Matt Elliott will not continue once his contract expires at season’s end.
>
Former St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown, NSW mentor Ricky Stuart and Panthers assistant Steve Georgallis are reportedly on the club’s list.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope I 'm wrong but can see another 3 years of players being played out of position. :bash
Let's face it - the Tigers have a team full of good players and the Panthers are duds.
I think Sheens has decided to stay on the comfy lounge.
Let's hope we have a performance clause in our contract - you can bet the Panthers had an out.

Better than great news..

Go the Tigers & Tim!

I was reading all the negative comments on on here about Tim Sheens leaving but I am very excited he is staying… The thing is that you don't realize what you have until it is gone !!!!!.... But I know what we have and that is a Great Coach, Great Players and a Great Club...... oh and Great Fans...

Now it is time to go gettum Tiges!

This is a time to celebrate as our club has shown today what loyalty is about. I am proud to call myself a Wests Tigers supporter.

To those who at this time can only attempt to belittle Tim should hang their heads in shame as you have no honour nor respect. Leave that negativity for another day it is not welcome today.

Well Done Tim congrats and may the next four years be filled with much success.

I hope that wasn't directed at me, because that's exactly the point I was making. Sarcasm is hard to express on the internet.

To be honest, I'm disappointed.
Whilst not a sheens basher, I was looking forward to the injection of fresh energy and ideas that a new coach, namely Peter Gentle, would bring.

At the same time it's fitting and pleasing to note that Sheens does bring many strong attributes to this club, most importantly stability. We should never disregard that.

3 years is too long though. 2 years would have been better.

I hope that part of the deal involes Gentle starting to get more say/control over the next few seasons before taking over

good post

i dont hate sheens at all, and i dont for a second think he isnt a good coach

i just think he has become very stale and that the players are TOO ''matey'' with him. guys like gibbs, fulton, galloway and even farah are all now senior players and imo havent reached the heights they should have. this isnt entirely sheens fault however anyone who has worked for the same company for 10+ years knows you get relaxed and sometimes the only way to get the enthusiasm back is a big change.

someone completely new in to kick the complacency out of the joint is very much needed imo

i also have no doubts sheens could go on to another club and be a great success, however i have my concerns if he can get the best out of the current playing group
