Cherrington and our spine

It think everyone has forgotten Joel Luani…

…..for a reason. He is useless. May as well get Benny Elias to put the boots back on if they are even remotely contemplating giving Luani game time next season.

… will need some protecting! All our spine will be sharp and young, and small. How do we cope with all three being in the defensive line? They will only bulk up so much in one off-season.

The coaches with big physical teams will be licking their lips with so many options of who they can isolate run at.

It means our poor defence is what will need help, even more-so with Keefy leaving. I think Dene becomes more important to the team now, as will a couple of good big defenders but who can we afford?

Back to the Big Willie option??

If we're looking at a Halatau/Cherrington combination for next season we are in deep trouble.
Halatau whilst good defensively absolutely kills our attack. He takes an eternity to get the ball out from dummy half and all the best teams this year thrive off of quick play the balls and quick movements around the ruck. We need to bring someone in from outside the club to help fill the void left at hooker if Manaia is deemed to be unready to take over the role himself.

Ballin wont come cheap. I'd imagine the ESL would pay overs for him. Paying Farah out then spending good coin on Ballin wouldn't make much sense.

I'd be content with Halatau starting and Cherrington on the bench for next year.

Anyone have an opinion on Cherringtons kicking game. Has he got one?

Might need a 3rd option outside Brooks and Moses. Teddy perhaps?

He is a very good player but still young. Watch our young halves go now with their combination with Cherrington.

Someone's going to have a busy time counting the missed tackles for that trio,
It'll be speed bump alley .

i think by next year cherrington will do just fine, with no money and what we do have is better spent getting some better backrowers and a prop.dene will cover if he needs a break.

I don't think Cherrington is ready for 80 minutes at the moment, but who knows after a good off-season. With the interchange dropping to 8 next year, it's very hard to swap hookers for 80 minute spells.

Cherrington looks good with the ball but I worry about his size. He's been run over a few too many times this year to be confident he can do the job next year.

Other short term hooking options that dont suck are Beau Falloon and Kurt Baptiste

Is Baptiste available????? Man that would be great!

I dont think available but too good to be in reserve grade or on the bench so im sure something can be arranged. I mentioned it because i know Robbie is mates with Stuart and Canbera could be an option.

That would be a funny turn of events after he talked Tedesco out of playing for Ricky.

They played quite a bit with him this year and we didn't see much,
Ah well with the scarecrows coaching , hell set the world on fire, just hope taylor has a better effect on Cherrington than he has had on Brooks
Remember Brooks, our rookie of the year????

Just a thought, Moses has come good, Brooks not. Maybe Farah and Brooks are not "compatible".

I tend to disagree. I think Cherrington and Halatau is the perfect mix with the interchange dropping. The fact Halatau is playing good footy as a back rower is a great advantage. I'm sure clubs will try and get 80 mins out of there hooker now, and I'm sure there will be times when Cherrington isn't up to it, and with Halatau in the 17 we are covered in giving him a spell. Having a backrower that's earning his spot and can cover hooker is a big bonus over carrying a specialist hooker on the bench.

Here's another thought that is very left field. At first you think no way but the more you imagine him playing hooker the more you think it could work. Naqaima at 9\. He is very strong, quick out of dummy half and he has good skill so i think his service would be fine. A segerayo type hooker. Cherrington is the man but if he goes down injured and we need spark in that area I would experiment with Kevin.

That's what Gus was saying a couple of weeks ago,
But you'd think with a whole season together as well as many games in the lower grades , that they would not have that trouble, unless one is trying to outshine the other and dominate the other one. Strange things happen when big money and attention comes to young players.
We know what Brooks can do. We saw it in his first game.
It's there but either the coach has stuffed his game , or he needs ( like Moses) some time in answ cup even for a short time when they can get some space to get their games together, then come back with their confidence back

What's with the NSW Cup. Useless.

Let's send him back to play with, basically nobodies to build his confidence up. (if it is down in the first place, that is only an assumption, Youi).
If it is down (don't believe it myself) he would be thinking:

**(This is an assumed scenario GT - I don't know this either, same as white anting).**

"Maybe I can't handle this step up to NRL - I can play well here with these no hopers though. When and if I ever get back to NRL I am sure I'll be able to handle it well, now that I have killed it back here. Now that Mitch, Chero, Teddy and myself have worked on these great combinations over the past 10 or so games (…Oh! that's right they didn't come back to play NSW Cup with me....). What is wrong with me? and not them? - I am just a loser that got dropped.
Still, once I get my NRL spot back, won't be long now, that my confidence is back".

Should be right for 2019 season."

Persist with him or flog him off (and have nobody), but don't pretend his confidence is down and if it is not, make sure it is by dropping him.

I believe we won only one game without Farah this year.
Teddy and Simona are the only 2 quality young players atm.

Without major signings we might be in for another long year.

Watching Hastings last night at 19\. A class above our young halves who are clueless at organizing team atm.

I don't put much faith in those sorts of comparisons Magic; ie Hastings v's our halves.

I mean, put Hastings in our team against the Sharks last week - how do you reckon he would have gone?

Blair was pretty average playing for us for the past three years, but look at him now.

If you want to make a proper comparison you need to take a player playing in a champion team and put him in a 'struggle street' team and see how he goes.

I saw Hastings play for the junior Kangaroos against the Kiwis earlier this year. He dropped the first bomb that led to a NZ try. It was a tough close game and he didn't do much.
