MUCH to the amusement of his Wests Tigers teammates, second-rower Chris Heighington thought great soul man Lionel Richie was a former NFL player when several of them bumped into the music legend while on their end-of-season trip in Las Vegas.
"He went up to him and said 'G'day Ryan Richie','' Tigers winger Beau Ryan told Sport Confidential.
"We were dancing on the ceiling with laughter.
"He had absolutely no idea who he was.
"He thought he was an American football player or something.''
Ryan and Bryce Gibbs fought their way through several minders to meet Richie while at a pool party at the MGM Grand.
"He was pretty hard to get to,'' Ryan said. "But I had to meet him because I think he is a legend. I'm right into his stuff.''
So much so that Ryan forked out $15 to have his picture taken with Richie.
"We tried taking some but the minders wouldn't let us,'' Ryan said. "So we paid for some.''
Sport Confidential asked Ryan for the holiday snaps but it seems he may have had one beer too many.
"We forgot to pick up the prints,'' he said. "I am spewing because it was something I would have really liked.''
The Tigers return to training today. We hear a few of the boys are nervous about their first day back with renowned fitness man Steve Folkes expected to kick off a summer of hell.
