Chris Lawrence and injuries

I love Chris Lawrence but the past few seasons it looks as though all those years playing 1st grade has taken a toll on his body. Lawrence spends more time off the field with injuries than on it. He is out again this week with a pec injury

I fear that out backrow next year will spend more time in rehab than playing footy especially with the news that McQueen's neck injury is not healing as anticipated.

How much longer is Lawrence signed up for?

The issue is exacerbated by the complete lack of depth in outside backs and second row forwards throughout the grades. We have a lot of recruiting to do to strengthen the lower grades.

Lawrence is the only player qualifying for long service allowance, so he's not included in the cap. Costs nothing, strong defender, looks after Brooks, runs good lines off the ball, did I mention he costs us nothing?

If he is not included in the cap how does he get paid?

Long standing player allowance (8 years) of 300K can be allocated to 1 player or among a number of players..Chris is the only player we have that qualifies..

There is also the 600K Marquee Player allowance outside of the Cap that may be paid by Club affiliated sponsors ..again to 1 player or spread among a number of players..

Doesn't take away that he IS a spent force tho in the NRL….we should never have resigned him.

He wont make the first 17 next year even if he is fit. If we had depth, he would have been done years ago. Exit stage left Chrissy-boy.

Lawrence is the only remaining player from our very expensive, salary cap violating 2010 squad. That year the Tigers got stung hard by the NRL. Instead of releasing players to get the cap in order, Sheens went all in on another shot at the title, and everyone's contracts were back loaded and/or extended to stay under the cap.

So for two near misses in 2010 and 2011, the club ended up in hock for the next 6 years. Chris Lawrence's contract is the last of that debt, but thanks to the veteran player allowance, the Tigers can make the last payments without affecting the rest of the cap.

So we may as well keep Lawrence around and he can bodyguard Brooks whenever he's not injured. When his body finally packs it in he'll get a nice cap exempt payout and the last of Sheens' debts will be settled.

Still the second best back rower we have behind Taylor and with the question marks on Mcqueen, he might still be second best next year.

Just a shame he can't get on the field consistently, but as mentioned he's not costing us much so why would you punt him?

We just need more depth in his position.

Chris's contract was supposed to expire this year

He agreed to earn less for this year on the basis thay his deal will be extended til the end of 2019, which it was.

Pascoe decision.

The guys has a body of a 35 year old player.

He is beat up and finished.

Tries hard and admire hum but has been done for about 5 years.

As a result as he's on about 300k I think, which is cap exempt due to him being a long service player. Sad what happened to him, but he's a club legend regardless.

He doesn't add much to the team IMO and he is far from a club legend also. As someone has stated on here backrow may still be our weakness next season also.

He's one the club's only Australian representative's, he's only one or two tries away from being the club's all time leading try scorer, and is a good chance of finishing his career here with having played the most games for the club. If that isn't a legend then God knows what your criteria is.

True and correct Gunner. He has been a loyal stalwart of this club and I have never heard him say a bad word about our club. To my knowledge he has never thrown a tantrum like some of our other departed "legends". I hope he gets fit again and breaks those club records.

Chris will probably have to make a decision about his future as reality is he will not see out his full term contract due to his body breaking down.Imo he should not be lost to the club maybe a transfer into the administration side of the club he is a very presentable person that would serve the cub well .
