Fantastic news for Chris, well deserved ending.

I'd be lying if I said I haven't lost a bit of respect for him for running to the media during the build up to our biggest game of the last 3 years. Say what you want about Matterson, but he kept his issues in house till after our season was done. Having said all that, signing him on for another year is fine considering what we have, will probably lose, and what's available.

Rowdy had no leverage once the season was over!

I don't think the club would have dragged another legend through the mud again after what happened with Robbie. That was Chris's leverage. The media and the fans.

I'm with GNR, lost a bit of respect for him with what happened. But maybe he heard whispers of the club making some concessions for matto.

I'll give Chris benefit of the doubt. He's put himself through the wringer for the club, took paycuts to stay and always been an exemplary person off the field. Always only ever acted for the club. Maybe he was promised something that wasn't going to be followed through on.

He's not the player he used to be but he will a handy depth player. Hope he and the club both got some of what they wanted.

Signing was always gonna happen for at least another year with the clubs current lack of experience across the playing group. Cheap contract for a year aint gonna break the bank to keep a classy guy around the club. Turned 31 just 2 days ago. Its just a pity too many injuries took away his chance to make it to a 300+ one club player. Appeared 75% of available games since debut. He will probably finish around 260 games before heading to England for 2 or 3 year deal.

I was hoping in vain this spot would of been put to good use in securing one of the positions that needed it...2020 ground hog day !

Don't worry the day sentiment wins you comps we will be unbeatable. Yes he is a great bloke and a club legend, but he also is just another average backrower on our books....and we have a lot of average backrowers in our top 30. Unless we are moving some others on you are right a waste of a space.

@gallagher Agree great clubman. Although if other clubman were saying they were dissapointed about their contract situation in the media in the lead up to the week of our biggest game against Cronulla they would not have been slaughtered!

If he has taken pay cuts, I hope that they give him a send-off year in 2121 with some good $ when our cap frees up. We need to ensure we don't take advantage of the good characteristics we want to see in our team (selflessness) and reward the bad characteristic (greed)

I think he would have received more for next year if our balance sheet was in better order.

Thank goodness. Go Rowdy, have a great final year.

Only have to look at your avatar to see why the club had to extend his tenure.

isn't that when he hits 300 games?

Then after another 5 years of 1 year contracts his wife will get the diamond watch personally engraved by cameron smith

Not the decision I would've made but I'm happy for him.... He's had some horrific injuries, glad the clubs supporting him... Hopefully it's a successful move on field

Disappointed he's going around again, but there's no doubt he's deserving of the opportunity. I guess things are looking pretty lean out there in the market place. At least we know what we're getting. All the best Chris. May the holes you hit be close to the line.
