Chris Lawrence...time to move him on ?

Not every team has the benefit of this. The Bulldogs for instance have no long serving players that would qualify.
I believe it is 7 years with the club.
That being said is there any point in moving him on when he more than adequately provides depth?

Didnt know that, maybe Club Captain next yr dont know about him being in starting side id have Taylor McQueen & Sue if we dont sign others

I can understand letting players go like Benji who wanted too much money. We should have let Robbie go rather than pay him too much. If we are paying a fair wage though we should try and keep these guys at the club for life and manage the end of their careers with a bit of respect.

Its professional sport doesnt matter about being a great person or loyalty look at Woods & Taupau

If he costs nothing in cap keep him but we can attract better

He is miles ahead of Lovett, better than Sue and Edwards as well, can't see an issue.

I'm okay with that but you can do it with some class. I'm not stating guarantee him a spot in the side and pay him double what he is worth. It is as simple as paying him a fair wage and explaining the situation to him.

Robbie is a classic example of how not to do everything.
 
He's been as solid as a rock under Cleary. Besides the one howler of a game he had in Canberra, he's been pretty good this year imo.

Bloody oath. Those 3 players merged together still wouldn't even be good enough to polish Lawrence's boots. Get rid of them before Rowdy.

I'm not suggesting anything to the contrary. All i'm suggesting is that we should play the best 17 every week. If Lawrence is in that top 17, fine, but if he's not then he shouldn't be in the team. Just because he's a nice guy and loyal doesn't mean he should be a walk up start every week. I like Lawrence, I think he seems like a nice bloke but his best years are unfortunately well and truly behind him and realistically he'd struggle to make many other teams starting 17\. We have a ton of money to spend and in my opinion we should be looking to sign another strong back rower.
 
I am loving these threads that none of our players can play because the team is not performing well. Kev, Brooks, Nofo and now Lawrence have all been lambasted. We are already replacing 5/6ths of the team for next year, yet that's not enough for some.

I am prepared to stay loyal to the guys that stayed loyal to us. None of these players have had a bad word to say about the club even during this challenging time. All these guys have talent and it is up to Cleary to bring that out in them. I feel like we are treading water a little and waiting for next year - which I am sick of because that seems to be how our season goes every year of late.

I vote to support the guys that have stayed loyal and give them an opportunity to succeed in our new environment next year. However, there is no reason why the players there now can't tackle their rings out and bring us some results sooner.

I agree plus he is costing bugger all on the cap, we have shown too many long serving players the door, we need to show some loyalty because kicking long serving players to the kerb has not worked.

If he is not on the cap, why not keep him. Doesn't mean he has to be in the 17, but if he is the bar then that's a good thing.

I also think that we should be buying another backrower but a good one. We already have bought McQueen and I'm not sure he will be a step up from Lawrence.

If Lawrence really starts playing poorly then drop him but he is so far away from the list of players that need to be dropped at this point.
 
He should always have a job at the tigers.
Well spoken gentleman, one the young players could learn from and look up to.
Oozes class and loyalty and imo still has something to offer the team.

I agree with this 100%…he is not costing us much either....could be a good bench player next year....
 
Lewis is outstanding..and much older than Lawrence.Freak
sadly Chris rarely breaks tackles these days,and the size of forwards coming thru in other clubs means hes a liability unfortunately..great guy and all.
We'll never do well with a sub 100kg back row(ET CLand McQueen)..just get smashed(as usual)
 
I don't think it would be a good idea at all.
I know people say loyalty does not exist anymore, but this does not apply to Lawrence.

Look at how most fans reacted to Woods, Teddy and Moses defection.
To cut Lawrence would be absolutely disastrous for the club, creating yet another circus, and could send exhausted and jaded fans over the edge.
That's not saying he should be a shoe in in first grade.

Leave him to serve out his contract.

When is he back anyway?
 
So people are saying that half the blokes that have never consistently produced (Sue,Brooks etc) will be much better behind next years pack, but a solid performer who puts in every week and has sacrificed for the club should be cast aside
