How blokes were enormous today.
Woods was comfortably the best front rower on the field and should have played himself into the 4 top rotation for origin.
Lawrence seemed to go along way to returning to form.
Farah was my MOM, and was great, he has been good IMO this year in the games he has played, and other than a slow start last year has been consistently the best hooker from NSW, the fact he has pnly played 2 SOO's is a tragedy.
Fulton was his usual busy self and went well IMO. Obviously not in contention for origin, but should be happy with his performance.
Not sure how much of a stamp Simon Dwyer put on the city performance, but Im going to assume, he was directly responsible for all the good things that happened out there for City :slight_smile:

Personally i thought Lawrence was lucky to be picked. It seems that he is under consideration for Origin. He did play his best all year today so i think he will be on the shortlist. Personally i'd have Woods over Galloway, who is a 40 minute player and was a bit shy last year.
Woods was outstanding today and showed he is Origin standard. There's been a lot of talk recently about young talent for Origin, so i reckon Woods is one they have their eye on. Farah was outstanding also, but he is picked for City because he's good for city, not for Origin. However, Pearce did make a point of how they worked well together, so who knows? My bet is on Buderus, entirely undeserved. Still, it's better than that wanker Ennis, who is also likely to be picked. I don't get how Buderus' incumbency stood for nought when Cameron Smith came along, but stood for everything when Farah put his hand up.
The other Tiger there to make up the numbers was Fulton, who played well, but can't see him getting up for Origin.
As far as other players go, Pearce played like the incumbent he is, and stood up today. Ferguson looked like he has the x-factor for Origin. Hayne played himself out of 5/8, but he must be contender for other spots due to his x-factor. Tariq Sims looked very strong too, and TLL didn't look out of place. Morris brothers looked ordinary as usual at rep footy. Carney has the x-factor too, and they're crazy if they don't pick him. NSW needs a good combination of solid workers and danger men. Gould pointed out the lack of intensity, but city-country has always been played as a friendly, unfortunately.

As for why? in the rep arena you have better players around you which means you can play better. If they both turn in poor performances against Parra and the Titans I would be worried.

Lawrence is a different matter. His lack of form has really been lack of involvement in attack. His defence has been good, but in attack, he gets no ball. This comes back to our attacking structures and the fact that Benji is going to his forwards (Blair, Cashmere, Ellis) and wingers but not to his centres. That's why Ayshford's form has been 'poor' as well - they get no ball.

Agree Cobbs he has the stats with 2 games suspended and the other confused.
I hope he gives ricky Stuart no choice other than to pick him.

Fittler and Daley aren't within cooee coaching wise of Sheens and co and they can get the performances they got from Lawrence and Farah yesterday
They both stick the same effort in at the Tigers as they did against Country so thats not the reason
So if it is not all the talent they play with ,the effort they put in every week and its not the coaching ….. what is it ??

Thanks guys - I often think we might have snagged another premiership or two, recently, if we'd made a concerted effort to secure a genuine halfback after Prince left, considering how close we have actually come to winning one in the last 2 years. It pains me to say it, but Lui was well on his way to becoming it for us - however, he had to go and be an idiot, didn't he. I think this has rocked everyone concerned with the club, tbh - more than they're letting on. Hence, our flat and uninspiring start to the season this year.
And yes, Happy, as brilliant as he is, having an unpredictable No 6 would definitely also be a factor.

The problem with City Country Origin is unfortunately that it is taken to country areas. Why? Because how can you replicate Origin intensity when played without Origin atmosphere? These games are taken away to country locations in a festival atmosphere where the players get a weekend away and play a "friendly". This is no way to prepare for Origin. It should be played in Sydney just to take the fun out of the game and ensure players take it seriously. Places like beautiful Mudgee are a distraction for the players. Unless country crowds can become hostile to City players, it will continue to be poor preparation for Origin.
