CLASSIC BATTLES SET TO CONTINUE

The classic matches between Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons are set to continue this Friday night according to Captain Robbie Farah.

Since 2000, the two joint venture Clubs have clashed 23 times with the Dragons holding a 12-11 win record.

The most memorable match was the 2005 preliminary final won by Wests Tigers which saw them move into the Grand Final before winning the premiership a week later.

At WIN Jubilee Oval – the scene for this Friday night’s round 3 premiership match – the Dragons hold a 4-1 winning record but the last 10 games shows 5 wins apiece.

Farah said his team was looking forward to playing in front of a packed Kogarah crowd.

“There are always close battles between us. It goes back to the preliminary finals (2005) and since then, there is a great history between the sides,’’ Farah said.

“Every time we seem to play, they are close games. Last year at Kogarah they had our measure. We came back late and almost got them towards the end but they held on.

“The game at the SFS saw us get them by a couple of points and we beat them in the semi-final game (at ANZ Stadium).

“They are always great battles. Very tight and very close. A good genuine 80 minute contest.”
