Clubs chase Laurie as Tigers stand him down from firsts

To Lauries credit when hes playing first grade , i always see him at the magpies state cup games watching on…

I was as excited as any fan, when I saw his first couple of games. More recently, all he has shown, in his short time on the field, is he is a big unit without much fear.
On his recent performances, I disagree that he has much football talent. He seems to be lost, whether the team is attacking or defending. He does not show any urgency in getting back into position after a tackle is completed. He makes more flops than first in tackles.
I think he has lost interest and, noting one of the posts, maybe the main influences in his life has changed from Sheens and the Tigers coaching staff to some poor, outside influences.
The time has come …............

he is the only one who can put in the good performances, regardless of whatever grade he is playing.
when this happens consistently no doubt he will get more time in first grade.
its no use being a player who has good potential, and does not use it.

He hasn't done enough to warrant staying in the top 25, let alone get an upgrade.

Someone needs to tell the dope and his manager that you get upgrades by playing well, not bombing certain tries, giving away idiotic penalties and missing simple tackles.

Not fussed if he goes. We lose 75% of the matches he plays in. He has not progressed at all, runs alot softer than he did when he was in first grade. His mistake rate is higher, he gives away penalties, he still hasnt learnt to tackle, he cant position himself in defence or attack and hes 25, hes not a youngstar.

I like him and would like to see him stay, but if we are getting into a bidding war then forget it. In saying that hes worth more than the proposed amount hes on. But hes got alot to learn still.

Way to support Daine there Don….could you try and not call the players dopes...

key word being here 'potential'. He has bucketloads. But does the have the commitment and dedication to be a professional footballer?

I think this story is a bit of a beat up to be honest…

i expected more from Daine to be honest. Really he's improved only a little since this time last season. So right there i have my reason to side with club on this one. No doubts he has first grade talent but there are reasons holding him back and those are the concerns, Should i be dissapointed if we lose him? Of course i should but honestly i'll be dissapointed for him, not us as i believe he's simply let himself down.

Well said

Only thing I disagree with the club on is the fact they're trying to turn him into a second rower. Geez what a surprise. :unamused:

Apart from that though, can't argue with anything else. Hasn't done enough to deserve a contract upgrade.

Couldn't have said it better.

Somtimes i think Sheens is bored in the gig so manufactoring players keeps him interested

I don't think Sheens vision for Laurie is the real issue here….He would make a good Willie Mason......There is no way he could cut it as a Prop in the NRL at the moment anyway....

he has to good footwork and offloading skills to play front row i agree to turn him into 2nd row he is not a hitup machine compare him to ben hannant over 80 minutes and see the differnec in front row styles

If that story is true well so be it imo! He sounds like he is not putting in for Wests and not training. Also hanging around Mundine a lot I hear, so bye bye Daine good luck in the future!
I dont think we need self centred players like that at our club IMO.
Now back to enjoying my Sunday!

If he's hanging around Mundine get rid of him right now.

He would be no loss for mine….for all the time Ive been watching footy Ive seen plenty of big units that cant play footy Ive always thought he was one of them

What, just like he's supporting the club by not turning up to training and threatening to leave?

If he his that could be part of the problem..
I've been a fan of his since he played his first game in 1st grade but seriously he needs to really look at his work ethic and to improve to really deserve and upgraded contract.. Look at Mighty Mouse still no upgraded contract and he has been slaying them this year compared to how Laurie's been playing..
Sure he has talent and there's a possibility he could become an awesome player, there are many players that have come before with equal or more talent then Laurie and they are no where now because of a poor work ethic talent can only get you so far..
