Clubs fight over the next Benji

I'd say keep him , he's a gun player and turn him into a centre .

As for Kimmorley , he's a Tool , a deadset gibberer who only cares about his pay packet from fox sports .

Posted this before but never went through obviously.

It's a no brainer.

We keep Moses and Brooks.

We sign Martin for as little as possible.

We sack Kimmorley with his own agendas et al. Bye Bye Tool!

He would cost us min 250k per year.

Retaining him makes Brooks and Moses less likely to succeed. Put simply we desperately need a 450k per year centre. So if the choice is have a 200k centre and Martin or just have a 450k centre the answer is easy.

The hard bit is finding a gun centre who will come.

“I would love him to stay at the Tigers but realistically, it will be hard for him behind Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses. Clubs are queuing up to get him and with quality playmakers in short supply, it’s easy to see why.”

is this the bit that kimmorley said that everyone is referring to?

he's just being honest, isn't he? if anything, he's doing right by his player and making his sale price higher and by his tone, it seems obvious tigers are not pursuing him too much so there's hardly a conflict of interest imo.

No, in an article last week or the week before he was linked to Manly, (before DCE reneged) and Kimmorley said he'd be a great pick up for Manly.

fair enough

but again, if he did say that, it's obvious tigers have either not placed an offer or too low an offer for him and kimmorley as a good coach is sticking by his player- haven't read the article though so can't tell the tone.

Hold on, weren't GC after Moses Mbye?

They go after everyone. They're up there with the Roosters and the Dogs as far as chasing anyone who comes on the market.

Moley tweeted a response to this saying that one of the six clubs that aren't in the race is the Tigers… Not sure if that means the offer they gave him sucks or that we are just letting him go. If that is the case, poor form by management.

If it's on twitter then of course it must be true!!

Has the club said anything about this?

Once again let's wait and see for God's sake.

As for moving Moses to fullback, I would be in favour of this to see how it goes. My preference would be to move Moses to half and Martin to 5/8\. On form Brooks should be in reserve grade.

Laurie Daley, Ben Ikin and Matt Gidley were all pretty useful junior representative 5/8s who started their first grade careers in the centres. Gidley ended up in the centres exclusively. I can't see why Martin could not play as a second 5/8.

The question to be asked is would Martin even at this stage be in our top 6 backs? I would strongly suggest he would be.

This will be a big test for Taylor as a rookie coach to retain Martin.

The only thing I can see in our favour is that his mates (Liolevave Heleta) are on our books for the next 2 years….Unfortunately Money may will be the bigger factor...Development Clubs like ours will always suffer compared to cashed up Clubs who can cherry pick when it suits....the NRL needs to do something about it but wont...

P.S. Kimmorley can take a short walk of a long pier..was excited when he came on board but he has done nothing for the NYC team full of potential...

Hey Geo, what's a short walk on a long pier going to do?

 Crumbs,,,other way round then….

as if kimmorelys comments are going to make a difference.

believe it or not, clubs dont sit around waiting for the latest DT headline before they start poaching juniors like this forum. they go to U20s games, rep games, talk with junior coaches etc.

he's already got 8 clubs after him before this comment.

we'll likely lose him, having a million dollars a year tied up in 3 20 year old halves is pretty damn stupid.

It's sad but we're destined to lose Martin. It's sad because he's definitely a class first grader in the making. This is why I wrote a post suggesting he be moved to centre, trialing in NSW Cup first then blooded in the NRL next year. But, of course he is and wants to be a play making five eighth. The suggestion of moving Moses to fullback and Tedesco to centre in order to make room for Martin has weight but, unfortunately, we don't have the bucks to match the other offers and he will move on.

Great…so we spend the money and time to develop him and get absolutely nothing for it. No player to replace him and no cash to compensate us for the development. What a joke.

The incentives for developing juniors in the NRL are miniscule. Clubs get no discount for re-signing developed or local players. They get no transfer money for moving a player on to another club and no player of equal talent or lower salary as we would if we traded. I really think we've taken the wrong path heavily investing in kids. By the time they're ready, such as Martin, we won't be able to afford them.

The problem we face is having to pay "overs" for a bloke who is behind Moses and Brooks at the moment. I'm not sure we'll go down this path given we have identified centre and backrow as key positions which need strengthening.
