Coach Benji 👑

#4- and do what???? What do people want with this? If the NRL take back the licence, it presumably would be issued to a new team outside Sydney and will not be Tigers or Magpies for that matter. If people are that bloody minded and want #3, great we can have Tigers and Magpies playing in the KOE with no NRL, I don't mind that but where does Tigers get the $$$? They're already skint and Magpies have already helped them when they didn't have to after Elias and co shafted you. I would love #2 to happen and the NRL force Wests Ashfield and HBG to cease the debebture system forthwith. It's a cancer on our governance and operating system. #1 any sale would be very dependent on buyer wishes as to location and branding. I don't think any buyer would be wedded to Tigers brand, Leichhardt or Campbelltown i think there would be interest in Central Coast, Adelaide, NZ etc.
#4 would be at the threat of taking back the licence. Force the governance changes that way. I don't think people actually want HBG to lose ownership, they just want the debenture system democratised so that there is accountability to members or optimally, to revert to the report recommendations.

Tell me one other NRL side that would take on Benji as their coach
This needs to happen sooner rather than later
On ya bike Benji ....work on your golf game
This should have been a red flag from the get go. Craig Fitzgibbon, whether he still does it now, idk, but he did it when he was first appointed at the Sharks. And that’s on game day, he’d put himself through an intense work out, because he wanted to feel equal to his players and what they were putting themselves through later that day. Benii would rather play a round. I’m not advocating Fitzgibbon’s ritual. It sounds indicative of a rookie coach over extending himself. But look where they both are at currently. One is a winner, the other is a cellar dweller. Could just be a coincidence, but it’s an insight into their personalities and passion for doing what they do.

This isn’t the 99 Magpies for crying out loud. But if that’s the card you want to play, why after 3 years does his roster still suck? Why has he re-signed half the squad to long term contracts if they resemble members of the Generals.
Starting to look an awful lot like them.

HBG have destroyed the soul of this club and continue to do so. No wonder the players don't give a flying fig.

Hello Everyone;
Im not a Wests Tigers fan as such. More of an interested observer in the club, and its direction since 2000. And a fan of Benji - as a player. Best to wear the Tigers jersey in my opinion...I remember watching the 05 grand final and in the room was my mate Tim - Tigers supporter. Couldn't contain himself... 😂

Out of interest I've done a fair bit of my own research on the Wests Tigers club, the joint venture, its history.. 3 from 27 for finals appearances...To try and understand the joint but more what might be behind the chronic underachievement..

Benji has taken on an impossible task - in my view. Some will say that the dysfunction at board level, and football operations can be separated, but they cannot be separated. All the ills of the club start and finish at the board level, where the is no cohesive force that wants to pull the club towards a common goal

A large part of the reason for this is the way that Balmain has fallen by the wayside and now only holds a 10% stake in the Joint Venture... Its not a joint venture as such, its almost entirely owned by Wests..

Whilst this is the case, the club can, and will be a revolving door of head coaches, and nothing systemic will ever shift...

Have a good one
🙏
You sound like me...just more polite and measured in your assessment.

Sorry...I love how Wests Ashfield "helped" Balmain. No let's correct that, WA received multiple assets in return for paying out the debt including various Tigers clubs, 40% of the Wests Tigers and they'll end up with a lease for a leagues club on Victoria Rd that will be insanely profitable...they've done and will do very well on those assets to date and will do even better in future.

The favour to Balmain was they bought Balmain more time to come up with the money after the NRL loan was due which was a nice gesture, but WA have been paid back every cent.

The NRL should have bought out Balmains share and kept or on-sold to a 3rd party. At least the HBG governing structure wouldn't have had such a demoralising impact on the club.

I think the board should pull Benji in and ask a few std questions and also give him some direction as to what they expect going forward .
Questions from the board .
What is your plan for the rest of the season .
Are you blooding the young guys for the rest of the season .
Have you thought about your assistant coaches for next year .
Do you want some outside assistance like Cronk or Johns .
Board requests
Assistant coaches next year we would like you to find and replace Hodgo and Heighno , if this is done you are safe for the season 2027
If you decide to run with your mates you have 10 games next year and you need to be 6 wins out of 10 or we move you on at that point end week 10 .
Are there players under contract you don’t want , if so give us the names and Gallant will get them moved on .
Board no longer can sit back and watch our team flip flop again

Heigno as a trainer would be fine, but nowhere near coaching team.
I think the best way is to remove them completely to freshen things up but also to bring in experienced assistants from strong winning clubs , if I was the board I would go after Boyd cordiner from roosters , been there for years , and is assistant to a winning coach and winning team , , I would give Benji no say on one assistant he can choose the other

Very few trust or want a bar of this club unless they are emotionally attached to it.
All clubs have ex players in their coaching staff - that's how the culture of any club is built.

Benji is failing but I will never bag him for trying nor the others who generally care about the club.
The problems we face are much bigger than the coaching teams - and we know their fate - but attacking your own for failing at this club says more about what we have become as a club under a sustained failed administration that continues to systematically chip away at any hope that fans have that things will change
.

The problem is HBG have effectively handed all control of football operations to Benji. The club is now solely reliant upon Benji to make a rational, mature decision…..

As much as I would love an up and coming assistant to join the club, there’s zero inventive for them to do so. Who’d honestly want to come here?

We’ll be forced to look at guys that don’t have the fanfare or try and find a diamond in the rough. That’s in the event Benji changes his assistants which he most likely won’t.

I honestly think the board should stay away from the football side of things and just hire an experienced assistant for Benji..
As poor as Benji has been as a coach, the board has been 100x worse.

Measure WTs against clubs who are successful - then we might get serious about why coaches fail at this club.
There are failed coaches who coach successfully at other well run clubs with high level support, pathway systems that produce, develop and retain talent.
Until fans demand more from the people running this club HBG will have no problem paying out the coaches while preserving division within the club.

Sorry I meant Wests Tigers board , not HBG , but most are the same so makes no difference , control is with the nut job debenture holders who need to go

When can anyone honestly say Wests Tigers look sharp in attack? It may have happened the odd time here or there, but never consistently. Ultimately that comes down to coaching. If Benji doesn't swallow his ego and get new assistants in then he will follow them out the door, just with a much heavier pocket.
We pay big money to players, namely halves and front rowers to get our attack humming too. Our halves in particular have been really ordinary of late, apart from some individual efforts.

Hopefully there’s a big shake up there soon.

You have just outlined broadly what we already know. Some solutions would be much appreciated.

G'day
It looks like a tricky situation from all angles. Balmain Tigers RLFC are effectively backed into a corner

I would be thinking along the lines of - what sort of leverage do the fans have.. In terms of being able to push for change. Especially if organised and large in numbers..

I guess those community rallies at Pratten park were angling in the right direction..

Too many people getting caught up in words said publicly by BQM in the presser.

Do we think the club needed him roasting guys who are playing busted and embarrassing them more at this time.

Behind closed doors I’m sure he’s more honest.
I suppose he's been proud of them the last 6 weeks.
Time they players earned their money and Benji gives them a rocket if they don't put in.
Something not working here----changes needed.

The way i see it earlier in the year we had a bit of competition for spots in first grade and Benji was a bit more aggressive in dropping players. As the season wore on and the injuries began stacking up all that disappeared, and it was a matter of playing what he had available and to be fair, it was not much. People have asked why we didn't promote Sol Sakuru, it looks like perhaps the club made him an offer and he rejected it to look elsewhere, so why would you play him. Whereas perhaps players like Luke L were not even made an offer so they got a few first grade runs. Like many on here I love Benji and what he has contributed to the club, however for mine he has 10 rounds tops next year to prove he has turned the team around, I'm not even going to use injuries as an out clause for him. If we have not won at least 6 from 10 games and competed in the 4 we lost...than he is gone.

Bigger chance of Benji walking away than accepting proper outside help...... And he has already said he won't walk away......
And that is exactly why SOMEONE ELSE must sack his side kicks and get some fresh assistants around him. Three years of the same old---has got us nowhere.
Experience from outside, new ideas. Quote: If you do the same things-----you will get the same results.
And if that doesn't work --- Benji is next.
