Coach or player ??

Ok I have a question for everyone

We get a sugar daddy prepared to put big money into the WT's

So the sugar daddy offers to do one of two things

He will either buy the best coach in the NRL or the best player in the NRL

What do you get him to do , buy the best coach or buy the best player ??

Easy - the coach.
Firstly, if you are considered the 'best' coach it means you have had success building teams and getting the best from people.
Secondly, it would help enormously with recruitment because players want to be coached by the 'best'.

An elite player is not going to want to play under Taylor, especially with what is going on now, they will go to the next highest bidder, so it is a coach for me.

Id go coach.
But players make coaches.

Hasler, Bellemy, Bennett, Gibson, Fulton…..they all had great teams

Sure they attract good players, and all that, but the roster makes a difference.

I still vote coach, cause they can improve the place and build and set up for the future.

I think we have excellent pathway systems, so we dont need a B SMith style set up coach, we probably need a final touches coach.

Lets put it this way….. anyone could coach the Broncos team, the Storm team, Bulldogs or even the Cowboys to a top 8 position, even some of the hysterical numpties on here.

Though nobody could guarantee that Bellamy, Hasler, Griffin or even Bennett could coach our lot into the finals series.

Wouldnt matter which road you took to be fair, neither would garnish instant success. A coach would be stuck with a team who could only compete half a season which is unfortunately not week to week but half of each game, nor could a superstar turn us around seeing as we have not only the top try scorer and arguably best fullback in the game, plus 2 other Origin stalwarts, but a host of other international rep players.

Long road... wouldnt matter which path you chose.

Coach. Around suggestions that anyone could coach the Broncos, tell that to Ivan Henjak and Anthony Griffin. A coach will generally be able to bring players and support staff. Even better would likely be a well connected board, they would bring sponsors which could improve facilities, recruit a coach & also a recruitment manager (talent spotter) who could identify talent that will blossom into true NRL player, rather than good juniors whose game does not improve.

Coach of course

A coach needs to turn 25 players into a well structured squad who know their roles

And then he needs to turn 17 man squad members into a team

And lastly a champion coach attracts champion players , the best want to play for the best and learn from the best

happy you have brought up a very good discussion .

I would say a Coach for the simple reason that he creates the culture and commands the respect as soon as he walks into the place .
A top line Coach brings that Aura to the place and with that comes training being taken serious , discipline etc…..

But then the other side of the argument is : Wayne Bennett went to Newcastle on what was reported at the time $1 Million per year between 2012-14......2012 finished 12th , 2013 finished 7th and 2014 finished 12th .
So some would argue that is a fine example of a top line Coach not delivering when not having a Top Squad.

Fixed it for you….

Todd Payten will be the answer...

Thanks Geo , you are awesome

If Todd Payten is the answer , what is the question ??

"Who scored the last try in the 2005 GF " or possibly "Which assistant cruelled our premiership chances in 2011 by leaving out tennis balls and who did he injure "

I always thought the coach was important so a good coach would have been my pick however when you think about Bennett at Newcastle or Robinson now, it shows how important it is to have top players somImlean that way now but obviously both go hand in hand. I have picked player Happy.

Geo and that's the other thing , if you do manage to get them past security , Kiwi birds main food source isn't pies and mars bars
