Coaches Demise

 Coaches Demise…I have been reading about the West Tigers players playing for Potters future,I honestly think the Fickle Factions have already made up their minds and it doesn't matter how well they play he will be gone at seasons end..however,don't some of you on the forum agree that they should be playing for their own future and for the fans that turn up for them, let's face it their pay packets demand a solid performance each time they get out on the field, playing for the coaches future is a little to late.I personally applaud the man for copping the crap from all sides and facing everything with dignity..leaving his future on the balance with this lot doesn't give me much confidence for his contract extension ...West Tigers now and forever......

The problem lays at the boards and CEO's feet

It has all been handled badly and when it takes the CEO three months to clarify what Brian Smith's actions and plan of attack in his report are , that explains a fair bit

Some members of the board have got to the stage that some just disagree because of the other is from Wests or Balmain

We have a huge mess to fix before the start of the 2015 season and I don't know whether our current CEO is capable of addressing the problems or fixing these problems

Then again I reckon even the best CEO would struggle with the massive job this will entail to pull it all back together in approximately 6 months from seasons end

Yeah, tough job for the CEO but fighting with the Club Captain is a dumb move,i think he will go before Robbie.
From the outside i don't know what Potter has done wrong to have this strong move to get rid of him,it started in Mayer's office with the Smith fiasco but maybe Grant is doing someone else's bidding in an attempt to sure up his own job/position.

I really don't get all this criticism of Potter he has an injury depleted squad the 2 years ? why don't they look a bit closer to our Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Physio's cause that is where the problem is , there is something not right being our Facilities , Recovery , i don't know ? but we seem to always have at least 5 or 6 first graders out at any given time .
I know some selections of Potter's has made me question it ? i dare say Salary Cap has something to do with it for not replacing like for like positioning changes

Potter probably hasn't done too much wrong, but he seems weak, never hear from him when we are dudded by the officials, and the players don't really seem to respond for him, case in point last saturday night.
So I think he will be let go,rightly or wrongly we can only hope everyone supports the next one,but please not Matt Parish.

Did anyone watched when FOX mic'd up North Queensland Cowboys coach Paul Green? Potter has the same demeanor as Green. I would find it very difficult to get up each week listening to that same monotone voice.

We need to get the best qualified people in the three vital positions of Head Coach, CEO and Strength and Conditioning. The budget 3 we now have in those positions are not capable of winning us a premiership.

I really do not know where I sit with Potter. Its so hard to actually make a fair judgment with all all the injuries and drama he has had to cope with. On the other hand I have lingering doubts he is the best option for the club. Sometimes I get the feeling that tactically he is weak and maybe not flamboyant enough to gee the team up. Than I look back to the Souths and Manly games where we turned in performances very seldom every seen before against quality opposition.

Taking all the set backs out of the equation, I still think our squad has to many players who just dont cut it at this level anymore and their lays the problem more than the coaching.

I get the feeling Potter will fall along with the CEO and half the board, all paying the price for the drama that has been played out in the media over the past month. The old story, good guys dont always make winners

I don't know why people are so sure that Potter will be gone next season.

The new board will make the decision - a board unencumbered by factional alliances and old boy networks.

Presumably they will make a decision based on what they think is best for the club.

Perhaps, given that they have been appointed by the NRL, the NRL may even have a quite word to them about what NRL headquarters thinks should happen.

Who knows? I think, given it's a new independent board, that all bets are off.

There's nobody more monotone than Wayne Bennett. Players don't seem to have a problem with him.

Don't judge Potter so harshly "Irvine" none of us know what he is like in the sheds with the boys. Would you prefer someone like Ricky stewards demeanour?.. Now theres a head-case Lol. :crazy

That's EXACTLY what i want from a coach, Calm cool and level.

The last thing in the world we need is a coach that rants and rave's and carries on.

I want a coach who can be calm and relaxed when he needs to be calm and relaxed and when he needs to bounce off the walls I hope he can peel paint with his tongue

Have to agree with the latter. As last week's effort showed most of our players need a wake-up call which I doubt that Potter can deliver.

I Have been a manager / captain / coach of a lot of things over a long time.

I am yet to find an adult human being that responds well to, or who's performance is improved by being yelled at.

Sounds like Roy Masters to me.

Yep, exactly.
We burn through first AND second tier salary cap like a pokie queen does a pay packet down the RSL on a Saturday night.
Doesn't seem to happen to other clubs.
I may be wrong, but the ASCA quals of our key S&C staff seem way under par for a team nurturing future stars.

I don't condone yelling at players but there does come a time sometime when your players are not putting in be it on the training or playing field. At such a time a coach has to pass on to his players (without yelling) that he is certainly not happy with their effort. A coach is often judged by his ability to motivate during such times.

I'd start with spending more on S&C, given limited funds, and hopefully establish a better platform to assess the coach, with players on the field a little more consistently, and then also judge the CEO, when the club's maybe not such a basket case.
Nothing like winning against the common enemy to bring the warring internal factions together.

Hard to REALLY judge him.
He didnt have his own team last year.
He Hasnt gotten a fair go this year.
Hes working for peanuts, with the barest of resources…and now we find he doesnt even have full support of all on board.
We keep shooting ourselves in the foot
He's on a hiding to nothing.
We suck!

I think that the main problem is extreme lack of Wests Tigers money which began with the Sheens sacking saga which in turn resulted in Benji losing interest, form and then leaving the club. Also, signing players like Lawrence, Fulton and Moltzen on long term contracts only worsened our money problems. Do Wests Tigers fans really know the extent of our financial distress?
