Most interesting fact is that only 7 players are still here from last years round 1 side, our forwards look much stronger, we have a halfback who can organise the team and direct his forwards, we have a strong backline mixed with youth and experience and a goal kicker who can kick goals. Overall we look much stronger this year.

Okay so Tedesco is a sight better than Moltzen we can all agree there I'm sure (except one guy maybe).
2014 Koroibete has to be an improvement simply because he's had another year in the game.
Ayshford on a good day is better than Lulia but I think Ayshford's worst is worse than Keith's.
Lawrence 2014 looks much happier and healthier than 2013.
Pat Richards is an improvement on Utai.
Anasta and Marshall, hard to separate. What Marshall dished up 2013 was horrid but Anasta did likewise.
Brooks has played one game in NRL and was better than Miller in every game he played.
Woods > Buchanan obviously.
Farah is Farah.
Taupau is not an improvement on Galloway but we still actually have Galloway and he'll be back pretty soon hopefully, then Taupau hits the bench and makes our bench even stronger (can't believe he's still injured tbh…)
Thompson is an improvement on Anasta in the backrow.
Fulton is Fulton
Blair is Blair

The bench is incomparably better.
Also consider that where last years round 1 side was better, Ayshford and Galloway ... we have Simona to come back, who I rate higher than Ayshford and Galloway himself. We are better off in basically every position except five-eighth coming into this year. We cannot go backwards and it doesn't take a superb analyst to see it. Those writing us off are just showing they are lazy when it comes to research.

What he said.
& we still have Keefy, Simona & Nofo to come back in very soon & Sirro in a couple of months.
& in the 5/8 position we have a couple of other options that may well get used during this season.

Good original post Milky.

I rememebr people - me included - talking up Pettybourne when he first came the way peeps are talkin Gavet & Tapau…hope the outcomes different this time

Big difference i've noticed for Pettybourne (completely in hindsight however) was that souffs fans were not upset at all about losing him. Dogs fans I know seem a bit more upset about Tapau. Gavet's often been recognised as a talent but with his history of injury is a complete unknown.
anyway, here's hoping

I reckon the teams are pretty similar. We have a lot riding on Brooks and hopefully a little more punch in the forwards.

pettyrbourn went through a period of depresion and that can affect even the best footballers. He's moved on, found some fresh air and is ripping it up for wigan. Was exactly what we coulda used in 2013 against the chooks in WCC.

similar thing with BMM first half of 2013, he was close to Mosese (i hear) and it affected him personally and on the field. He looks to have found some fire in him in the last 6-9 months though.

Well BMM and Mosese were housemates so must have been pretty close

Sounds like he had an ok game in reggies today (I only followed it on twitter)

I think Tedesco and Brooks and potentially Gavet are superstars of the future.
The rest of the team are the same run of the mill mediocrity we have been trotting out for years.

There's a lot of really confident people on this forum in for a very long year I think.

If we have superstars at 1 and 7 to go along with Farah at 9 then we've got a better side than most of the NRL even if the rest of the side are reserve graders. Melbourne have proven that.

I'm not confident but I fail to see how you cannot rate players like Simona, Nofo, Richards, Woods, Galloway, Farah and possibly Korobiete.

I'm not stating that we will kill it but I don't think we are that far off plenty of teams. A couple of teams are clearly above us however I think we can do well against most of the other teams in the game.

We need a lot to go our way but it might. Will our halves perform, will the younger players continue to play as if they can be superstars and will our backrow add some impact to the team.

You got no idea son.
We are going to surprise a few if you know our team you see their is a lot of potential and our depth is at its best for the last 2-3 seasons.

What pisses me off most about Pettybourne is that he has had an absolute blinder for Wigan so far… Where were those runs for us Eddie? 😢
