Obviously, Ryan Matterson was a player we needed to keep, to build our team around.

Yes, we certainly need a full investigation into why we aren't keeping him, and for all Wests Tigers fans to be told what that reason is.

Mitchell Moses had a falling out with Brad Arthur last year, but they were apparently able to work things out, and look at what the Eels and Moses achieved this year.

I don't like to say it, but I feel there is something very wrong somewhere, in our club. Have a great day tigeress :fa-smile-o:

Thank you Magpie1963 for your nice words....As fans or members of this club we should be entitled to know what is going on with these players and why they leave us. Mind you I know that is never going to happen:white_frowning_face:

.After 11yrs of membership I am seriously thinking of not resigning this season...it's just that I have been waiting for something positive to happen all these years and it hasn't :white_frowning_face: Wests Tigers please tell us whats going on:white_frowning_face:

Funny. How the DT saying this players wanting to break contract is bad for game and needs to stop now happening to Canberra.
The problem with this game , when something happens to the NRLS pet teams or against the media darlings clubs there is outrage , but when happens to a club like tigers who have no mates in media and not NRL darlings , silence

I disagree , we have got so much media coverage throughout the Cleary saga and now the Matterson mini series ......

Because it is happening everywhere .....must be at least 5 different stories similar to Matterson's in the NRL

The media love us because we give them so much ammunition. Why would they want us to stabilise and become a club that doesn't regularly shoot itself in the foot?

The club is no where near where it was 5 years ago, it used to leak like a sieve. The reason there is so much interest in the Tigers is because of how popular it is. On a guess it appears there would 5 stories about the Tigers compared to 1 for the Titans.

Bit of banter from McQueen 😆![IMG_20191002_142215.jpg](/assets/uploads/files/1569990530082-img_20191002_142215.jpg)

@fibrodreaming My turn to disagree. We were given a terrible time in the media for the mental anguish we were inflicting on poor old Mitch. I'm sure Uncle Benny called in some favours with the media. We did not come out of that saga at all well.

Ivan should have just stood Mitch down from all grades, until his contract had finished.
Reason due to Mental health issues, as his sleazy manager was saying.
Rest dear Mitch rest.

You're not wrong there @Bathursttiger2: What a real pity Mitch Moses wasn't the starting point for our get-tough policy.

As you said he had apparent mental health issues and "Ivan should have just stood Mitch down from all grades" until such time as his mental health improved to a point where he could fit into Wests Tigers, in all ways.

Mitch went on to cause trouble with the Parra coach and the team suffered badly.
Luckily for Parra the coach was able to work things out with Moses, and things improved this year.

I just hope Madge and Matterson can  and :couplekiss: , as we will be losing a damn fine player if he goes :broken_heart: .

**Paul Kent blasts ‘disgraceful’ player agent as John Bateman seeks contract upgrade at Raiders
Canberra’s grand final charge has been stunned by reports English star John Bateman could walk over a contract demand.**

NRL 360 host Paul Kent has called on the NRL to put its foot down when it comes to player managers encouraging their clients to break contracts after it emerged John Bateman will seek an upgraded deal at Canberra.

Bateman, who has been one the reasons behind the Raiders’ run to their first grand final in 25 years, revealed in an interview with NRL.com that he’ll sit down with the club in the off-season and discuss his salary despite having two years remaining on his deal.

The 26-year-old is on a contract reportedly worth between $350,000 and $400,000, but could seek an early release if the Green Machine aren’t able to accommodate a bumped up deal, something which the club isn’t obligated to do.

Bateman said he felt a sense of loyalty to coach Ricky Stuart who has looked after his since his move from Wigan, but admitted “you’ve got to earn as much money in your career as you can”.

**“I’ve got a new agent over here, I’m with Isaac Moses,” Bateman said.**

“I don’t know where Canberra are at with their salary cap. While I’m over here mate, I have to do what’s best for me and best for my family. Moving forward I’ll just have to weigh up my options and see what’s there.

“ … But I need to do what’s best for my family. They know that. My little girl, I want to give her the best opportunities and life and I’ll see what those opportunities are. I don’t know where Canberra is at with what people are coming and going but we’ll sort it out after the season.”

Before he joined Moses’ stable, Bateman was with another agent who negotiated his deal when he made the move from Wigan to Canberra.

At the time, the Raiders paid a $450,000 transfer fee to get the backrower Down Under.

Kent blasted Moses and the timing of the report on Tuesday’s episode of NRL 360.

“It’s disgraceful once again that a player agent has waited until grand final week to start getting it out among the media,” Kent said.

“He’s just taken over this player as his agent and he gets it out there now with two more years to run that he wants an upgrade in his contract.

“When are the NRL going to get in control of these guys?

“This is up to the manager to stay out of his player’s head in grand final week. He shouldn’t even be having a conversation with a player in grand final week about getting an upgrade or getting you to another club.

“The Raiders if they wanted to could sit here and say you’re going nowhere, you’ve got two years more years, you’re going to see out your contract. That could end it there. But we all know now that the managers say kick stones at training, they’ll have to release you.

“What they’ve got to do is they’ve got to get the NRL here where if you break a contract, put in a condition you can go elsewhere — if you had a falling out with the coach, for instance — but you can’t get paid more money.

“That stops these managers, who one year into a three year deal, say you know what, I did a bad job, underpaid on your new contract, so now I’m going to take you to market.

“We are almost at breaking point with so many players breaking contracts and the NRL just sits back idly by and allows it to happen with no compensation to the clubs, no recriminations against the agents that encourage who players to break a legal contract — and the players all profit by it.”

NRL won't do anything about this because at the end of the day its the NRL...basket case

there's a difference between asking for an upgrade and asking for a release. every player/employee has the right to ask for a payrise if they feel they deserve it but what it seems was matterson has done is- i wanna play elsewhere unless you pay me more money.

Except he is contracted. He's not a salaried employee. WT have the right to say "mate the contract was good enough for you to come over and get regular FG time, but now it's not when you've delivered on your promise."

As many have stated over the last few weeks, what is the outcome going to be if a club told a player to take a pay cut after half a season of subpar performances? You bet your bottom dollar that a player won't hand the coin back.

Why is the risk always on the club?

I'll just leave this here..

Interesting that a usually reliable poster on the Sharks' forum advises that Matterson is singing to the Titans. Could be a great outcome to get Brimson in return,
