Really pleased that Matto gets the official recognition of being the next in-line for Origin forwards.

I think we can all agree that Chrichton only got the nod because he was there last year.

It both validates Matto's 2019 form and his decision to leave Roosters to get more starting minutes and more responsibility.

A rare occasion where a move to the Tigers has paid dividends for a player!

Tongue in cheek? Plenty of dudes went to another level here after moving from another club -
Marty Taupau
Gavet
Hodgo
Scott Prince
Farah second stint
Ellis
Pat Richards
Elford and Whatuira
Todd Payten
Corey Thompson
Twal and Aloiai; Eisenhuth
MCK
Frozone
Blake Austin
Ava Seeyoumannafunguy
Matt Utai
Tuqiri
Big Red

And that's obviously not including the blokes we debuted or scouted ourselves.

Was more a shot at Tedesco, Moses and Woods who felt like they needed go elsewhere to go to the next level.

Tuqiri is drawing an extremely long bow

When at the Broncos he was arguably athletically the best winger in the game .....better than Wendell

OK then - he went back to a high level. His credits were on the wane after deciding to leave Rugby and he was no guarantee of transitioning back, but he played for Kangaroos in that first season.

Just revealed on NRL360, selectors wanted Matto, Freddie over ruled them and picked Crighton

@851 A big worry when a coaching reject like Fittler has the power to overrule anyone. He comes across more as a Club Med G.O. (Gentil Organisateur) than someone who could realistically improve the team.

Freddie you numbnut. Get the politics out of SOO and pick the player who best fits the team (which is definitely Matto). This is Blues circa 2012

I have no problem with Crichton's selection, he is the incumbent after all and his form hasn't been all that bad. For game 1 at least I think it is best to stick with as many of the players from the series winning team as possible. No need to make wholesale changes just yet, it's good to keep the nucleus of last year's team together. As it is, due to injury, there will still be 5 players debuting and that's more than.enough, imo. Matterson's time will come.

I don't agree. You need to give the coach the ultimate power, even if you don't agree with him, because he is the one delivering the results not the selectors. If you over-rule the coach, you weaken the coach.

Also coming in last year, putting a broom through the side and delivering the series to NSW, even if QLD are on the wane, means Freddy basically gets to do what he likes.

Freddy does what he likes tbh, nobody was going to be his boss when accepting this gig!

As long as Matto continues trending up 😛

Same with Gavet, Richards, MCK, Utai and Red. Well, Gavet was a beast off the bench, but he got the boot for being terribly loose with his commitment to both the club and his team mates didn't he? Richards, scored that try in 05 and was a great kicker but that's it. MCK has also really only had 10 seconds worthy of being remembered and one game where I think he scored 4. Utai was much better at the dogs and Keith was average for years.
