Typical everyone goes for Moltzen.
Plenty of under performers today. In fact almost everyone was horrible

Moltzen is deserving of criticism. Has has plenty of chances to stand up and has fallen each time.

Absolute rubbish he cops stuff no matter what every week.

Not from me. I have been prepared to give him the benefit if the doubt. But this season he has had his chances to star and fallen over each time he has a chance to show us what he has. Average footballer at best.

Why expect him to do any more than that then?
Most of the team is average it's not like he's a rep player who is underperforming like the rest of the side yet he cops it so much more than anyone else.

I wonder what the hell it is with Moltzen that makes fans suggest that "in other circumstances" he would be good.

Moltzen has shown buckets of talent and at fullback he is ALMOST there but just can't shake off a few key problems in his game …..

.
A few key problems like…poor passing game, no kicking game, bad hands, discgraceful under a high ball, refuses to run hard into the line from fullback, has no ticker. Other than those key problems, he has buckets of talent. He has been here for 5 years. If he had it, he would have shown it by now.

Anyway I am confident Moltzen would play well in a side like North Queensland or even outside Pearce at the Roosters.

Well we can all dream….personally I think he would have been good at the Dragons but obviously another "key problems" he has is that his word means nothing and he has no integrity or principles.

Sorry but when you are in the side as a playmaker and part of the spine you need to contribute more than an average player.

He clearly does not pull his weight as part of 1,6,7 9 and cracks under pressure more than most playmakers.

yeah but moltzen has been horrible 90% of the year . I know he wasnt responsible for today but considering this thread is about him id like to ask a question . How many people rate him , dont rate him , or used to but no longer rate him . I remember when it was announced he signed with the dragons i started a thread saying i wish we held on to him , alot of responses at the time told me in no uncertain terms i was nuts !!! It didnt take too long into this season until i realised you guys were right and i was wrong . We have been saying all year he is due to hit some form because as we know , it does take him a while to warm up , and then we see glimpses of his potential and get excited for the next week …..only to be left dissapointed .Iputting this out there for all the other moltzen fans who defend him the way i used to ,as it may make you feel better knowing that you may be defending him today , but next year you will be wishing he went to the dragons .

You must not be watching the same player as me. He is one of the best defensive fullbacks in the NRL he pulls off more try saving plays than anybody not named Barba, Bowen or Slater. He puts his body on the line time and time again when he tries to stop tries. He DOES run the ball back hard now, and has done basically all season, his bad hands are only really his issues under the high ball, other than that it's fine. As a ballplaying fullback he has a great passing game and since when is it a pre-requisite of fullbacks to kick the ball?

Lay the boot in all you want but please stick to facts. I said as a fullback he has a few key problems and most of the things you said are blatantly untrue. His issues are not offering support around the ruck, not attacking the ball fiercely enough and a lack of confidence under the high ball. That is it in 2012\. In years past there were others but he solved them imo.

Keep in mind that I don't think Moltzen is great and don't really want him in our team, but the criticism is laced with bad information generally.

we had 40% of the ball due to mistakes on the first tackle and penalties late in sets, neither of which he was responsible for, nothing that happened today had anything to do with Moltzen.

As NRL players come, he is the softest I have ever seen. He is genuinely pathetic and disgraceful at times.

Well I don't know who your watching but I know each week I'm watching the team's achilles heel. I must have been spoilt growing up watching Garry Jack and in recent times Hodgo but I see a player whose only strength is when he runs off attacking players who put him into holes and a reasonably good passing game. But a first grade footballer needs to have far more strengths than his weaknesses. I see a player whose ball control is poor. Will not contest high balls. Does not know how to position himself (although I will concede it has improved in recent times) and his defence is way too inconsistent. At times he tackles well and at times he makes little to no effort which have made me laugh out loud. His game is error riddled and this cannot be disputed. Is it three times this year he has kicked off and put it out on the full? When I watch him I hold my breath and wait for mistakes. This is a club who time and time again rewards mediocrity and he was rewarded with a three year contract extension. I truly simply cannot fathom it. You cannot win a premiership without a good fullback, the position is far too important to the structure of the team. We will not go anywhere close to a premiership with him at fullback. It's going to be a long three years should he continue to play there.

I have to further explain myself. Credit where credit is due,I totally agree with one aspect of your praise. He has pulled off some fantastic try saving plays on the line. At least 3 or 4 times he has swept through on the line and knocked a ball free etc and I genuinely think he is fantastic at that. He has also surprised be a few times with great one on one tackles with a player who has made a break. His general defence in any other position of the field is poor.

Lets address your other points since you would like to debate based on correct information and stick to facts. you say that he DOES run the ball back hard and has done all season? He averages 78m per game over 18 games (pretty much all at fullback). Lets compare this with other fullbacks, Mini 140m, Slater 140m, Stewart 100m, Barba 122m, in fact he probably has the worst ave metres of any fullback in the game. This is due to the high number of times that he offloads a kick return to his wingers or jogs tentatively to the defence.

I am yet to see ANY evidence of a great passing game from him as a "ballplaying fullback" unless you call passing it to a winger for a kick retuen a passing game.

I bring up his kicking game because you have said he will realise his potential as a 5/8, in fact in another thread you said we will _"finally see the talent that we all know he has. Moving him from fullback will remove every weakness has has. At five-eighth we will see Moltzen's career best game this weekend imo_". Well playing 5/8 doesnt remove his weakness with a poor kicking game. Today in a game when he was going to "step up" and when we were missing one of our kickers, and when playing 5/8, he kicked once…and it went straight down the defenders throat on the full.

You state that his weaknesses are ..."_His issues are not offering support around the ruck, not attacking the ball fiercely enough and a lack of confidence under the high ball."_. Well that pretty much sums up 80% of a fullbacks role. How many other fullbacks would be picked who are poor in the areas you identified? Add to that his lack of kicking game, poor passing game and timidity and he deserves all the criticism he gets. He should probably NOT be under this much scrutiny though as he should NOT be in first grade.

It is obvious that he was very poor again today but also just as obvious that he wasnt on his own in that regard. I am simply sick of watching him week in and week out playing poorly. It is a given that every week he will make a poor error such as a dropped bomb that puts his team under great pressure and usually cost us points. Today I was grateful that we wouldnt see a dropped bomb from him but he didnt disappoint and put it dead on the full from a kick off for his obligatory weekly screw up to put us under the pump again.

i agree that he wasnt on his own being garbage today Goose, but his kick off that went dead on the full after (I think) their second try put us under the pump immediately and directly led to a try that put us behind 18 - 0.

He is consistently reliable for at least one screw up a game that costs us points.

I wonder what the hell it is with Moltzen that makes fans suggest that "in other circumstances" he would be good. We always hear "if only Sheens would play him at position x", "if only…...". He has been tried at 1, 3, 6 & 7 and been garbage at every occassion save for a 4 week spell at the end of last year where he was adequate at fullback but he makes adequate look like Langlands.

He is greedy, has bad hands, no passing game, no kicking game and in defence looks scared. He is an average footballer. He looks like the typical hot shot schoolboy footy star who excels with a combination of pace & footwork but when he has to play with grown ups and there is a bit more required, found wanting.

You're a terrible judge.

Moltzen plays his best footy when he has support players. He can put players through holes & take on the line. Getting the ball off kicks at fullback nullified that. For him to contribute to the set again he has to be a support player which is not his strong suit.

He played the whole year at fullback then got thrown the #6 jersey & you wanted him to play so good it negated all the bad habits his teammates produce every week. Factor in a red hot Roosters side…

i cant believe how blind you molzten fans are . I stated earlier in this thread at the start of the year i was a massive fan , but have been waiting and hoping sooo long for him to produce consistantly to the point i realised it was never going to happen . So he has saved a few tries with good tackles…thats what hes paid to do at an elite level; in the most challenging rugby league comp in the world . He is also paid to catch a ball , and return the ball from kicks . He only seems to follow benji in support and were lucky if he makes it through a warm up befor a game . Surely we cant be happy for this to conitnue . He has shown potential in previous years but ive barely noticed any positives in him this year. We cant continue to wait for him to settle into his position because as proven this year we will be waiting a long time

that seems to be a sheens problem ,he keeps players way too long waiting for the potential to emerge.
and again why does the mastercoach change his players around , fults was going good in the 6 ,so he puts to 9 where he is useless, then plays moltz at 6 ,can somebody work sheens out ?

He has not progressed as a footballer.

I would liek to see how our entire squad reacts under new coaching before passing final judgement on a players ability

So true, but alas Sheens will be here for a while yet.

Moltz has the talent and he has alot of it.
unfortunately he lacks guts. a very important part of any true footballer.
Thats his problem in a nutshell in my opinion.
He expects everything to come easily , and when it doesnt, he cant cope. and to me that says alot about his attitude, sheens has moved players on in the past because he wasnt happy with their attitude. what makes moltz any different?
Goes ok as an attacking fullback but his unwillingness to attack the ball when a chip or grubber is put through by opposition halves is inexcusable.
Watching hodgo in the challenge cup final last night, the courage the tough little fella shows always putting his body on the line knowing he is going to get smashed just highlights how far moltz needs to come as a fullback. and dare i say it, as a footballer in general.
