Just like my belt in my ISO, it has to be adjusted a bit.
Likewise, the (changing) NRL draw needs tinkering so things just fit.
These are complex times.

Mr V'Landys is onto it.

These non-vaccinating blokes, I wonder has a single one of them taken drugs or poured alcohol down their throats. Amazing what drugs people will and will not protest about.

At this time last year (or the year before or the year before that or any year)
would players be getting stood down for not getting a flu jab?

So why are they now?

Because it was part of the deal with the Government(s) on the restart of the NRL that all players and staff be vaccinated. This was one of the conditions of allowing the restart of the NRL. Had it not been included none of the State Governments would have agreed to the proposal.

And forcing people to get flu shots become ok when?

The players have a choice, there are consequences to that choice. They can decide. No one is holding them down and forcing a needle into them.

They're being forced to choose between two options that they don't want.
Not really a fair to call it a choice.

If you're forced to choose between getting a bullet in the head or hand over your wife and kids, would you say that's a fair choice?

Because it's the same thing (maybe a little more at stake) but that's not my point, you're still being forced to choose between two options that you don't want

Not the same at all. That’s life. You get to choose if you like to or not. If you don’t like the options your employer gives you you go and find another job. Another career even. It’s still your choice. It happens all the time.

It's exactly the same, their being forced to do something against their will and their pay is being held at ransom until they do.

That's pretty much putting someone's livelihood at risk if you ask me.
It's totally wrong!!!

But thats the same in any industry - your boss tells you to do something you don't want to do - you either do it and keep your job and get paid or choose not to do it and face the consequences. Sometimes you have to backdown from the moral high ground to keep food on the table. Is it fair - no, But its the way things are.

If the NRL allow players to play without the flu vaccine, from a health point of view it probably doesn't matter that much.

But that isn't really the issue, the same players would presumably refuse any Covid-19 vaccine should it become available in the future.

If you allow it with one vaccine you can't very well change the rules for another. I assume that is why the QLD Health Dept are holding firm.

NSW Health and the NRL should do exactly the same as QLD.
\
The players have the right to refuse any vaccine, but they should not assume that refusal has no consequences.

They are not being forced to do anything against their will. They are given a choice. It’s a feee society and they can either choose to accept it or do something else. It’s not totally wrong at all, in fact it’s totally right.

I disagree

And you are wrong.

You don't get to just claim that someone is wrong, you have to demonstrate it

Says the fool that does just that constantly in the Bitcoin thread, I don't know how many times you have told people they are wrong and refused to give a reason.

In saying that, I demonstrated you were wrong in my previous post. The players have a choice.

You don't get it do you?
It's not about whether they have a choice it's about the options they're being forced to choose between.

Do you have another option that won't endanger the lives of all other people involved including thier own families
Can you imagine what life would be like for humans if there was no such thing as medicine which is available and which is specifically designed to save people's lives
Ever had a filling without a needle
Stitches without a needle perhaps
Pain killers for broken bones
Valium for depression
Antihistamine for itching
Etc etc etc
There are many drugs being used every day by people
Including those players who don't want the needle
Its a cop out by these players
They have no problem with a pain killing injections if they get injured

Cartwright hasn't played good football for years so it's no skin off his nose not to play
He plays like he is disinterested anyway
He will still want and expect his pay cheque though
Like someone said earlier
It was no issue for him to pay a female to go have an abortion and end the life of an unborn child
But what a gutless and self centered man he is to refuse a flu jab that could potentially save lives including his own and also effect the lively hoods of every other person who is employed by the NRL.
Not only that but what about the millions of people like you and me that would love to see the NRL back up and running, with caution of course.
So
If he doesn't want the flu shot
Then he shouldn't play
Same as any other player

WHAT HE SAID

Nine Entertainment Co is close to agreeing to a revised three-year deal with the NRL as the code prepares to announce a broadcast contract worth up to $1.9 billion. After weeks of negotiations, during which Nine threatened to walk away from the sport, the free-to-air network is now on the verge of recommitting to the NRL for the rest of the current broadcast cycle, which ends in 2022.

A series of meetings on Tuesday afternoon culminated in Nine earning a discount from the NRL of around $50-$70 million over the next three years. An extension remains unlikely but not impossible before the NRL announces the deal. It comes as Foxtel, which is desperate to extend its tenure as the game’s pay-TV provider, moves towards finalising a deal worth about $200m a year, potentially until 2027. ARL Commission chairman Peter V’landys and interim chief executive Andrew Abdo have been working around the clock to strike a deal with the game’s television partners in a coronavirus-impacted market. The new deal will be a major boost for NRL clubs and players, who are largely funded by the sport’s broadcast revenue.

The deal, which was the final hurdle in V’landys’ push for a May 28 competition restart, will allow the NRL to finalise a draw as early as the end of this week. Nine, the publisher of this masthead, had the best part of three seasons remaining on its deal with the NRL but the COVID-19 crisis has allowed the broadcaster to renegotiate the value of the arrangement.

Sources with knowledge of the negotiations say Nine’s revised deal could represent a saving of up to 20 per cent on what it was originally due to pay in the final three years of the deal. Based on that discount, Nine will pay about $85-$90m in 2020, a discount of up to $30m. It will pay in the vicinity of $90-$100m in the final two years. The deal is a win for Nine and the NRL, as it leaves its options open for more financially viable free-to-air networks to bid for the rights in the future. Both Nine, which had been willing to walk away from the sport, and the NRL were forced to reach a compromise in the hope of avoiding a drawn-out courtroom battle. Foxtel is also closing in on finalising a deal with the sport that is worth up to $1.6b should they commit until 2027. Fox Sports was due to contribute about $190m this year, increasing by $10m in each of the next two years.

Sources close to the negotiation say Fox will now pay a significantly reduced fee in 2020 and average payments of about $200m a season for up to the next seven years.

Securing the NRL rights until 2027 is a major boost for the pay-TV network, which has slashed more than 300 jobs over two months. Foxtel had 2.93 million subscribers as of March 31, a figure driven by growth of its sports subscription service Kayo. Subscriber numbers for Kayo fell from 444,000 in March to just over 272,000 by May 2.

They should’ve let channel 9 walk instead of giving them the reduced deal they wanted. Hopefully a draw can be made soon there’s only two weeks until the footy, it’s already long overdue

Might not have the draw this week. Below from DT article this morning.

With the NRL to restart on May 28, clubs still do not know who they will face in the first round back.

They were told as part of a 90-minute phone hook up with interim NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo on Tuesday afternoon that a decision is unlikely this week.

While the lack of crowds means that fans do not have to plan to attend matches, coaches are desperate to know what shape their season will take. The delay means whoever kicks off the relaunched season in the Thursday night game may have a week to prepare for their opposition.

Having the draw only a week before round 3 is pretty bad. All comes down to channel 9 delaying the broadcast deal, should’ve given them the flick
