Because it was part of the deal with the Government(s) on the restart of the NRL that all players and staff be vaccinated. This was one of the conditions of allowing the restart of the NRL. Had it not been included none of the State Governments would have agreed to the proposal.

And forcing people to get flu shots become ok when?

The players have a choice, there are consequences to that choice. They can decide. No one is holding them down and forcing a needle into them.

They're being forced to choose between two options that they don't want.
Not really a fair to call it a choice.

If you're forced to choose between getting a bullet in the head or hand over your wife and kids, would you say that's a fair choice?

Because it's the same thing (maybe a little more at stake) but that's not my point, you're still being forced to choose between two options that you don't want

Not the same at all. That’s life. You get to choose if you like to or not. If you don’t like the options your employer gives you you go and find another job. Another career even. It’s still your choice. It happens all the time.

It's exactly the same, their being forced to do something against their will and their pay is being held at ransom until they do.

That's pretty much putting someone's livelihood at risk if you ask me.
It's totally wrong!!!

They are not being forced to do anything against their will. They are given a choice. It’s a feee society and they can either choose to accept it or do something else. It’s not totally wrong at all, in fact it’s totally right.

I disagree

And you are wrong.

You don't get to just claim that someone is wrong, you have to demonstrate it

Says the fool that does just that constantly in the Bitcoin thread, I don't know how many times you have told people they are wrong and refused to give a reason.

In saying that, I demonstrated you were wrong in my previous post. The players have a choice.

Do you have anything better to do than to argue with people on this forum?

Na not really, I'm isolating, I was right though wasn't I?

It's not about whether they have a choice it's about the options they're being forced to choose between.

Mate it happens all the time, everyday the majority of people make choices between too unwanted options. That is what a difficult choice means, choices are easy when there is one positive option and one negative. I make choices like that everyday, as do most people on here and their reward for a difficult choice is not hundred's of thousand's of dollars.

Apparently, if you get the flu, your immune system is reduced and the there's a higher risk to catch Covid-19.
And if one player gets Coronavirus, it's more likely to spread among the players.
So caution is required.

And yet the flu injection is only around 45% effective.
So 55% of players will get the flu regardless, therefore potentially be more at risk of getting covid19 (apparently)
So if any player gets the flu will they be stood down too?

I would have thought staying away from people with Covid19 is probably a good way to not get it.
I think it's disgraceful that they're forcing people to get the flu jab.

They aren't forcing anyone, they have a choice.

And if I hold a gun to your head and tell you to hand over your wife n children, I'm not forcing you, you have a choice.
So if you choose to not hand them over and I pull the trigger, you killed yourself by not "choosing" to hand them over?

They're being forced into a "choice" and either option isn't what they want to "choose"

You've got issues to come up with a nonsense comparison like that.

The Gold Coast Titans have made formal requests to Bryce Cartwright and Brian Kelly to obtain up-to-date influenza and, as required, pneumococcal vaccinations.

Doing so will enable each player to meet the requirements of the Queensland State Government’s protocols allowing Queensland-based NRL Clubs to train and play.

In turn, this will allow both players to resume training and to play with the Titans when the NRL Telstra Premiership resumes on May 28.

Both players have been asked to notify the Club of their agreement with this direction by Thursday 14 May.

The Gold Coast Titans will be making no further comment on this issue until that time.

It's all about context, a person wouldn't even want $1m or $2m if the third choice was $10m.

But I don't see the point in even arguing that they are being forced to make choices? Is it an existential pre-determination thing where no-one really chooses?

I don't get the point in arguing it, other than for the sake of arguing.

Some real irony here

I respect a persons right to self determination in all aspects of their life so long as it doesn’t impact directly on others.
I also respect the right for a company or organisation to spell out its expectations and rights in relation to its performance and safety to its employee’s and other stakeholders.
If the NRL’s Directors and Medical Committee have decided its a “jab to play” then its a “jab to play” - no exceptions and no “waivers” - and therefore people who do not wish to be jabbed for some reason must also accept that just as they are free to determine what they do, then the NRL also have the right to determine what they do. Simples.

I disagree!

Sorry?

No need to be sorry mate. What do you disagree with?

I was taking the piss mate and apologised for my bad joke?. You said people were arguing for the sake of arguing so I disagreed just for the sake of it!!
In the words of Foghorn Leghorn: “I say it’s a joke son! A joke.”

At this time last year (or the year before or the year before that or any year)
would players be getting stood down for not getting a flu jab?

So why are they now?

Because it was part of the deal with the Government(s) on the restart of the NRL that all players and staff be vaccinated. This was one of the conditions of allowing the restart of the NRL. Had it not been included none of the State Governments would have agreed to the proposal.

And forcing people to get flu shots become ok when?

The NSW Parliament passed a Bill to amend the Public Health Act 2010 to strengthen vaccination enrolment requirements in child care (also known as early childhood education and care). From 1 January 2018:

children who are unvaccinated due to their parent’s conscientious objection can no longer be enrolled in child care

If it's good for children
Its good for adults

You don't get it do you?
It's not about whether they have a choice it's about the options they're being forced to choose between.

Do you have another option that won't endanger the lives of all other people involved including thier own families
Can you imagine what life would be like for humans if there was no such thing as medicine which is available and which is specifically designed to save people's lives
Ever had a filling without a needle
Stitches without a needle perhaps
Pain killers for broken bones
Valium for depression
Antihistamine for itching
Etc etc etc
There are many drugs being used every day by people
Including those players who don't want the needle
Its a cop out by these players
They have no problem with a pain killing injections if they get injured

Cartwright hasn't played good football for years so it's no skin off his nose not to play
He plays like he is disinterested anyway
He will still want and expect his pay cheque though
Like someone said earlier
It was no issue for him to pay a female to go have an abortion and end the life of an unborn child
But what a gutless and self centered man he is to refuse a flu jab that could potentially save lives including his own and also effect the lively hoods of every other person who is employed by the NRL.
Not only that but what about the millions of people like you and me that would love to see the NRL back up and running, with caution of course.
So
If he doesn't want the flu shot
Then he shouldn't play
Same as any other player
