If there are no crowds, it doesn’t matter where they play, there’s no advantage. Might as well play on Mars.

I don't know about that. I think a game played at Bankwest for example Us vs Parra, would still carry an advantage to the Eels. Even with no crowds. The psychological impact upon our players knowing how we were humiliated there last time would play on the players' minds and affect their mindset during the game. It's not mental weakness, it's just how the mind works.

That said, in this context, the advantage I think some teams would get really is a low concern, and getting the game back playing despite those small advantages is the priority.

Bad example as we were playing at Bankwest anyway!

Yeah I was not pleased with that. But it really shouldn't affect us too much, as we don't really have a home ground advantage anywhere.

I just don’t get the date thing. NRL are like a bull at the gate with the attitude about this.
it won’t be NRL that make the final decision but they are really acting like they are the only ones with that starting flag.

Don't see where I said they did...most parents tho where advised to keep their children at home ..majority did..Momo was asking about starting flags..the Premier of NSW stated May 11 children could return to face to face teaching..

Yes the Catholic school I work for had 5 students out of a total of 1200 before the they shut for pupil free days and holidays .. The plan from Catholic Schools is to begin with remote learning providing a skeleton staff for those parents who have no option but to send there kids ..they expect roughly 10..There has been no indication of an actual return date to face to face teaching unlike State Schools..

So it is not just the NRL that have set flags to recommence all of coarse dependent on medical advice..

Origin at Leichhardt Oval? NSWRL boss says Sydney can host all three games
STATE OF ORIGIN

Tune into our new show Fox League Live on Channel 502 Monday to Friday at 6.30pm and on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 5pm.
NSW Rugby League boss Dave Trodden says he will work closely with his Queensland counterpart and government to make sure State of Origin happens in 2020.

And he would be more than happy to host all three interstate games in Sydney if those north of the border aren’t keen.

With the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt on all live sport, rugby league is desperately trying to fit as much action as it can into a condensed period.

The NRL has committed to resuming competition on May 28 but that’s the same time the Origin series would normally have been held.

There’s discussions happening around when Origin should be played this year, if it can be squeezed into the schedule at all.

“What suits us is just to get it on at some stage. We’ve heard it will be at the start of the season, we’ve heard it will be in the middle of the season, and the end of the season, so I don’t think we really care that much when it happens,” Trodden told Big Sports Breakfast on Thursday.

“The advantage of having it at the back end of the season is the longer you push it out, the greater chance we’ll be able to do it in front of crowds, and obviously Origin in front of a crowd is a different proposition to in front of an empty house.

“There is no perfect solutions but I think there are attractions in having Origin towards the back end of the season.”

The NSW government, coach Brad Fittler, and Trodden are all committing to making sure Origin goes ahead this year.

But the Queensland premier put the breaks on the idea when she publicly said Origin should be cancelled if Brisbane can’t host a game due to the state’s strict COVID-19 lockdown.

Her comments drew the ire of Fittler who publicly sprayed the premier, igniting a war of words between the states that would traditionally be left to the players or coaches, not government officials.

Trodden says he will be happy to accommodate the Queensland team if all three games need to be played in the southern state.

Making that difficult, though, is the fact ANZ Stadium is due for redevelopment works mid-year and may be out of use.

“As long as we play all three games in Sydney... we’ll play one at Leichhardt Oval... the Queensland premier doesn’t want any in Queensland so we’ll find three grounds in Sydney, that won’t be a problem,” he joked.

“With Origin you generally get the Queensland coach baiting the NSW coach, or the Queensland captain baiting the NSW captain. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen the NSW coach baiting the Queensland premier, and the premier take the bait.

“The leaders have got a lot on their plate and I don’t think anyone should be really critical of our leaders for having their sole focus on the health of their community rather than any sporting events.”

Trodden wouldn’t criticise the Queensland premier and he says he needs to maintain a good working relationship with everyone north of the Tweed to ensure Origin is played.

The NSWRL CEO said he is in constant dialogue with the Queensland Rugby League and the state’s government about how to move forward with the series.

“We talk to them all the time, we have a great relationship with Queensland Rugby League,” Trodden said.

“We fight with them three days a year but the rest of the time we have a really close relationship with them, because all our goals and principles are totally aligned.

“We probably talk at least once a week if not more, and we try to do everything across the game in synergy with one another.”

I just don't get why you'd have a date without at least having 3 or 4 ducks in a line

The ducks are lining up and still 5 weeks to kick off.

The NRL's road to resumption has hit another roadblock, with broadcast partner Channel Nine describing the proposed May 28 restart date as "premature".

Just 24 hours after ARL commissioner Wayne Pearce boldly declared the NRL season would "definitely" resume on May 28, the code's free-to-air partner has slammed the brakes on plans that have 16 clubs preparing to return to training in just over a week's time.

"Although we agree constructive discussions have been held between the NRL, Nine and Foxtel, we feel it's premature to be confirming a start date at this stage," a Nine spokesperson said.

"There is a great will to work together to an outcome but a lot of work still to do. A deal needs to be completed and the structure of the competition locked, which importantly must include how it will operate within the health-and-safety standards currently affecting the community."

The NRL had pencilled in another Project Apollo meeting for Friday, which has now been postponed, in the hope broadcast negotiations would progress to the point that it would be able to map out the structure of the 2020 season.

However, plans around a restart date and the machinations of how the season would work appear at the moment to be moot.

Nine, the publisher of this masthead, hasn't ruled out a May 28 restart but is determined to finalise arrangements around a potential new three-year broadcast extension before it concerns itself with the details of this year.

Pearce's comments on Wednesday afternoon, declaring the game would "definitely" return on May 28, surprised Nine powerbrokers, who were of the opinion the negotiations had not progressed to the point of determining a set date.

Pearce said on Wednesday: "We clarified that May 28 is a definite and also confirmed that May 4 is the resumption date for training. Everyone is supportive of what we're doing. Everyone is unified into getting back on the field."

Everyone, that is, except the free-to-air broadcaster and key people in government. The NRL still doesn't know whether teams from outside NSW will be able to stay at home to train, or whether the Warriors can even start training at all.

“I’m saying to NRL, send the detailed plan, send all of your health information, send how it’s all going to work," Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Thursday.

“Put it in a detailed plan and I’m more than happy to forward it to [Queensland chief health officer] Dr [Jeannette] Young. Dr Young has said today she’s more than happy to consider it.

“I think they’ve been dealing with the NSW government and I think they need to submit it to all other governments that have NRL teams.”

Pearce's comments outside of Rugby League Central were made at around the same time interim NRL CEO Andrew Abdo and chief operating officer Nick Weeks dialled in 16 club chief executives to tell them nothing had been locked in.

Nine minutes into the call an NRL.com push notification was sent out to almost half a million app subscribers, including a few of the digitally minded CEO's on the phone hook-up, declaring the season was "definitely" back on May 28.

By the time the CEOs had finished being told that there were few, if any, certain answers to their questions, most of their own media departments, taking their lead from Pearce's comments, had put up a series of social media posts with the opposite messaging, declaring the season was back.

Rugby League Players Association boss Clint Newton, who is on the innovation committee with Pearce, seemed perplexed by his comments.

"I certainly think we’ve got a level of responsibility to anyone that’s associated, in particular with that Project Apollo group, that when we come out of those meetings that we’re saying is a true reflection of where we landed," Newton said on Thursday.

Only a few hours prior to Pearce's comments, ARLC chairman Peter V'landys made the trip to Nine's Willoughby headquarters to meet with boss Hugh Marks, who later in the day held a separate meeting with Foxtel chief executive Patrick Delany.

But Pearce's summation of the day's decisions didn't match Marks' interpretation of negotiations that had taken place.

That does not mean V'landys, Delany and Marks will fail to reach a consensus on the terms of a new TV deal and the resumption of the competition. May 28 is still possible, if unlikely.

Just go ahead and play if you can get it organised. Nine will have no choice but to broadcast it as fox would just take on all the games if they decided they couldn’t.

It is becoming obvious that 9 dont want the sport unless they can get it on the cheap.Time to give them the flick and get another channel.

Biggest block to a May 28 start seems to be the Queensland Premier. Sounds to me like she needs everyone to know she’s in charge. “NRL won’t tell me what to do,” type attitude. NRL will need to stroke egos but I’m sure they can.

Not really, they don't need her at all to start, just to allow Qld teams to travel home between games!

The NRL does not need approval from QLD to run the comp in NSW, only thing they need to talk to them about is the possibility of the QLD teams flying home each weekend instead of staying in NSW, but the NRL doesn't need that to start the comp!

It would be nice if the QLD teams could go home, but its not essential to the running of the comp!
