Not saying it won't get worse.

But for some perspective, it's apparently killed about 40 people, mostly people who were elderly.

Malaria kills one million a year.

Over 90% of the population of PNG have been exposed to Malaria, on our doorstep. No doubt the malarial mosquito will find its way to Australia if it already hasn't.

Also 7 PNG nationals die per week from snake bite - the Papuan black snake

They breed them tough in PNG.

PNG population are great people.

Yes and we forget about the Aids epidemic as well

I read they eating contaminated meats from that "Seafood market" among the things on the delicacy dining table were Wolf pups, Peacocks, Rats, Bats and a few other disgusting things that escape me. Disgusting people they seem to always be at the epicentre of the outbreaks along with people in Africa who are in poverty unlike the chinese. Me personally i am very worried about anything like this i have a 9 yr old that has a heart condition and with that comes low immunity, luckily i dont live in Sydney anymore we used to live in a suburb with a high transient Chinese population. They would spend some months in China and then some months in Australia very common among the older Chinese people.

you see the news story about the 3 squeaks delicacy of dipping a baby mouse in sauce and eating it live?? Any wonder there are some cultural circumstances that both raise eyebrows and blood pressure of medical and scientific professionals....

The statistic that it's killed about 40 people is from the Chinese government. You never really know if that's true or not.

Good point. They'll just say whatever's in the Party's interests.

A lot of not doctors and not scientists offering opinions here.

SARS, swine flu, chicken flu... Asia is a hotbed of the next round of flu outbreak.

If you k ow anything about flu its seasonal and yes it's always mutating, always has been, and they are always working on vaccines ever so slightly behind the upcoming season.

But look at the stats for regular old common flu strains, it's destructive enough.

As a scientist I can confirm you are correct. Asia has long been on the list for potential outbreaks but so too has Africa and Sth America, it breaks down to quality of education, hygiene and practice. We must realise that if China is officially reporting that 40 people have died the number in reality would be closer to 400-4000. They are worried enough to have shut down 25 million people from leaving certain cities [i guess thats one advantage of being a dictatorship] which tells us they see this as a very real problem.

Its very Hollywood however the human race is long overdue for a cull. Will this be the year? 2020? Taking off my scientist hat and putting on my conspiracy hat for the sake of throwing something out there on the forum. Ive read a few papers over the years that say the Mayan calendar was give or take 10-20 years off. Anyone remember the whole 2012 thing?

We're due.

Death toll is now officialy 56 in China, also of concern is it is now believed that people are contagious carriers of the virus days before showing any symptoms which would have to be a massive concern for health officials

One report from inside China revealed it could be as many as 60k infected . The sooner that our population realise who actually runs our country the better ! Why do you think 46 flights a day are still landing from heavily infected areas !

I lived in China for 5 years. I have seen everything and I mean everything served as a dish, Koala to Komodo Dragon, Monkey to Marmot. Alive in cages like what we do in the West with lobster. The customer can walk in and choose which Koala from a cage he wants cooked up. Different cultures that 99% of people in the West have no idea what goes on in certain parts of the world.

The Chinese have a saying which very roughly translates to -
"We will eat anything with 4 legs but the kitchen table and we will eat anything that flies except an aeroplane".

How very true.

Confirms what I always suspected of Chinese

Yeah I must admit that thinking back to last Sunday at the DFO at the Airport and all the tourist coming looking for bargains from international and local flights was concerning

China is not exactly up there on places to visit for me 😓

Amazing history but I think the cuisine alone would turn me away from going there. Have been to Hong Kong, that was an amazing place too.
