There's no way in the world I will ever use this tracking app.

Legally, access to the data is a free for all for law enforcement agencies.

A "nah they won't" at a press conference isn't good enough for me.

Not sure what your actual concerns are. I get the impression it’s just on ideological grounds rather than any actual possible exposure by the app. The app itself does very little. Calling it a tracking app is really giving it more weight than what it actually does.

I've downloaded the App.
Putting aside the benefits that widespread use of the App will provide to our society ( and those benefits could be significant) I live in a household with my wife and youngest son. if I come into contact with someone who is Covid19 positive I want to know about it I want to be tested as soon as possible for my families sake as much as anything else.
I really don't understand why people would allow their paranoia about this thing to get in the way of the protection of their families and the greater good it affords the community.

I figure it's not about me and will possibly allow contact to be easier established if there is an outbreak. It doesn't trace where you have been just who you have been close to.
Also if I don't do anything wrong what have I got to be afraid of.

People don’t have backyards mate . And many are listening to the media , agenda driven panic merchants , who just want to drive hysteria for the clicks .
So many people , especially woman , who IMO have an already in built , genetic flight response , just are hiding inside .
To dismiss this , is naive at best. Many people are too scared to go outside at all , which like you said is over reacting , but it’s still happening.
Until the general consensus is lift the restrictions , these types , which due to some mental health issues in my family recently , Im starting to be more aware of , are really at risk.
And as the majority of our nation live in cities , and the general isolation , people tend to feel in the biggest cities , this is a huge issue.
Domestic violence , alchohol use , online gambling , are through the roof. This isn’t good , as a potential on going social issue post COVID.

I agree, there are many bad things as a result of restrictions, but the alternatives are worse and today being ANZAC day, it reminds us of who is most likely to be affected by this. Both by solitude for recent service personnel and if we don't continue social distancing on a suitable scale as things improve, those that served in Vietnam, Korea etcetera and the children that grew up in the second world war, along with the few remaining survivors of that conflict, it often means direct death.

I am surrounded with the mental health issues you alluded to at home and helping out my very affected sister daily, so I completely understand your concerns, but I am not willing to sacrifice my parents, along with their generation and similar others for the sake of more freedoms.

Mate , I’m 1 of those people . 3 people I served with topped themselves in the last 3 months.
And there’s are at least another 2 , we are really concerned about , as they won’t answer calls and no one knows exactly where they live , since this kicked off.
There were over 3000 deaths in 2019 from suicide , just knowing from the conversations I’ve had , we all just want support and feel like there’s none out there. VVCS is a joke , and the waiting list now is like 6 months just to get a call back.
I didn’t want to talk about this directly , but I am so concerned about days like today , hence my posting today. And that’s just returned serviceman.
There’s so many vulnerable people , out there who can’t just “go sit on their balcony”
The cure can’t be worse than the cause.

Mate thank you for your concern, but this wasn’t me reaching out for help . It was me being an advocate for those who won’t ask for it .
And just being generally disgusted with the way some of our society have drilled down on anyone not complying with what they perceive is the right thing to do, based on their own bubble. Which , frustrates me , as , any opinion I have today , can and should be open to change at a moments notice , when presented with facts. I don’t look for confirmation bias . Or echo chambers. Which reading this thread really felt like that to me .
It reminds me of V for Vendetta , or any other story about Dystopias. As this forum is a reflection of the rest of society. And you all should be very concerned about how easily , some , including some of you, have embraced this to an almost manic enforcement . Sure most because they want to protect the ones they love , but for some , it’s about having power over influencing other people . Nothing at all to do with covid.
The sooner we return to something resembling regular life , the better , as the longer it goes , the more brazen and justified these people will feel .
I’ts not conspiracies and nonsense either . It’s human nature . That’s why there’s so many books about it . And it’s happened before . The Spanish Inquisition, straight off the top of my head.

You make valid points.

I have long said about the lockdown measures that they are sensible and reasonable, and I support them for a limited amount of time in order to bring it under control. But humans are social creatures and not always sensible and reasonable. We require recreation, interaction and limited boundaries.

It will not be sustainable to lock people down indefinitely because as you have pointed out there will come a time where the other factors that pose threat to lives (suicide, mental illness, domestic violence, financial ruin,) will outweigh the threat of the virus. You cannot reverse or rewire some 300-500,000 years of social development through evolution in a handful of weeks, it flies in the face of nature.

I feel that we can have an each way bet on it. You can support stringent lockdown for a limited amount of time (me personally I feel that we are getting to that point, and if we are still at heightened measures in a months time we will see some seriously disturbing statistics in regard to domestic violence and suicide.)

By the way, V for Vendetta, great movie.

How things have changed i remember when Labor tried to bring in what was a very benign Australia card and the Coalition was screaming the house down about how the left where going to steal everyones liberties and it was defeated. Now any government can get all your information quickly if they want to from computers.Technology has made the world so much smaller and accesable this app is just another part of that world

An interesting article in Forbes. “China nationalises its N95 mask making.” A Chicago business has reported its order for 1m N95 masks was cancelled a week ago. Coincidentally, about a week ago I received a buy offer from my China contacts for , among other things, N95 masks. Could this be more evidence of the growing friction between China and USA?

I was just reading an article on the BBC website stating that both sides of USA politics are infering that the other side are "soft" on China. They have more than enough massive problems over without trying to score cheap political points off the other side.
That country needs strong sensible leadership but i cant see it from either party in the next 4 years

that's correct.

people think the gov don’t already know where you are at any point. All telcos have to give your metadata to the gov for the last 2 yrs.

Not to mention Facebook (which i dont have), wattsapp. Through your digital footprint i could find tons of info already.

It will help capture those cases of Covid19 where the source is unknown. All the app does is note who you have been near. It doesn’t track where you have been or anything else for that matter.

So if someone you have been near tests positive to Covid19 health care can let you know that you have been in proximity of the virus. If you test positive for Covid19 health care can let those people you have been near know that they have been in close proximity of the virus.

Pretty straight forward really.

The people that download this app are the same people that would let someone put a chip in their arm under the guise of your "safety"
Completely conditioned by the system, unable to see where this is all heading, fearful and willing to accept anything as long as it pacifies that fear.

People who say they don't care about privacy because they have nothing to hide should understand its no different to saying that you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

So go do as you're told, go download the app and give your overlords more control, they'll keep you safe.
Just like they kept everyone safe from the cruise passengers.

It blows my mind how easy it is to control the masses, the human species has sold itself out

The mental health and financial implications for this are huge, but there is a lot of data to say that without these restrictions 10's of thousands, perhaps 100's of thousands people would have dies already from covid 19.
