There's no way in the world I will ever use this tracking app.

Legally, access to the data is a free for all for law enforcement agencies.

A "nah they won't" at a press conference isn't good enough for me.

??what a crack up ... I am sure you think your under the radar .. reality is they now everything about you and know exactly where you are and what you are purchasing. Do people really think they have privacy anymore ! There are more apps running on your phone now that track all your movements and thoughts ?

So if they know all that already, why do we need to download the app?

It will help capture those cases of Covid19 where the source is unknown. All the app does is note who you have been near. It doesn’t track where you have been or anything else for that matter.

So if someone you have been near tests positive to Covid19 health care can let you know that you have been in proximity of the virus. If you test positive for Covid19 health care can let those people you have been near know that they have been in close proximity of the virus.

Pretty straight forward really.

How can they know who I've been near if they don't track where I've been?

If you don't know where I've been, then you don't know where I've been, so you can't know who I've been near.

Seriously? it stores the phone number of anyone you have been in close contact with for 15 minutes.

When was the last time (during this circus) that you spent 15mins within 1.5m of a total stranger?
This app is a joke

You do realise that the app is for when restrictions are lifted? Try reading before making uninformed comments.

Are you going to spend 15m within 1.5m of a stranger when the restrictions are lifted?

I hope so

Well you are dumber than I thought.

So you won't come within 1.5 mtrs of anyone ever again?

Of course I will, I'm talking about immediately after the restrictions are lifted.

How long are you going to keep the app after restrictions are lifted?
When will you feel safe to be "app free"

I don't actually have the app, when I return to work there will be times have to be within 1.5 mtrs of people for up to an hour.

You have no knowledge of how this app is implemented but are arguing against it. You claim other people are sheep but you argue from a position of ignorance, at least research the topic before getting involved.

The biggest issue I have with this app is the location of the stored data.

You're nieve enough to trust that what they say about this app is true.
I don't trust governments, their track record speaks for itself.

Govern = Control
Ment = Mind
Remember this

lol, naïve? You didn't even know how the app work before you started the argument. There are many logical and rational arguments you can make against the app but you haven't made one.

Let me say this for you again, I don't have the app. I have issues with it's implementation, including privacy concerns. I think the data should be stored in Australia for example, but that goes a lot further then just this app, its an issue I have with our privacy with tech across the board.

The reason I am arguing with you over this is the ignorance you display.

You a crypo advocate?

I don't think so, what is crypo?

Pretty simple really. The app just records other people withIn range who are also running the app. It does not record where the contact takes place just who it was.

And you believe that?

It’s not a matter of belief. Do your research on the actual app rather than the conspiracy theory’s you believe.

During this circus, have you ever spent 15min within 1.5m of a total stranger?

Irrelevant question.

How is it irrelevant when the app only records if you've spent 15m within 1.5m of someone?

It is a meaningless question. Your conspiracy is showing and now you are trying to move the goal posts. So I'll do the same. If that all it does and you never do that why are you so afraid of it?

Do you call everyone who disagrees with you a "conspiracy theorist" is that how you avoid defending yourself?

If you don't have the app, I don't know why you're replying.
Unless you just enjoy arguing with people who don't think like you.

what they like. Don’t download the app if you like that would be your choice. What they can’t do and it’s what you do a lot is make disparaging remarks about others who have a different option.

Oh like the remark you just made?

Don’t hide, own your behaviour.

This is a subject I have a reasonable amount of knowledge about.

I can assure you that my decision isn't from a place of ignorance.

People don’t have backyards mate . And many are listening to the media , agenda driven panic merchants , who just want to drive hysteria for the clicks .
So many people , especially woman , who IMO have an already in built , genetic flight response , just are hiding inside .
To dismiss this , is naive at best. Many people are too scared to go outside at all , which like you said is over reacting , but it’s still happening.
Until the general consensus is lift the restrictions , these types , which due to some mental health issues in my family recently , Im starting to be more aware of , are really at risk.
And as the majority of our nation live in cities , and the general isolation , people tend to feel in the biggest cities , this is a huge issue.
Domestic violence , alchohol use , online gambling , are through the roof. This isn’t good , as a potential on going social issue post COVID.

I agree, there are many bad things as a result of restrictions, but the alternatives are worse and today being ANZAC day, it reminds us of who is most likely to be affected by this. Both by solitude for recent service personnel and if we don't continue social distancing on a suitable scale as things improve, those that served in Vietnam, Korea etcetera and the children that grew up in the second world war, along with the few remaining survivors of that conflict, it often means direct death.

I am surrounded with the mental health issues you alluded to at home and helping out my very affected sister daily, so I completely understand your concerns, but I am not willing to sacrifice my parents, along with their generation and similar others for the sake of more freedoms.

Mate , I’m 1 of those people . 3 people I served with topped themselves in the last 3 months.
And there’s are at least another 2 , we are really concerned about , as they won’t answer calls and no one knows exactly where they live , since this kicked off.
There were over 3000 deaths in 2019 from suicide , just knowing from the conversations I’ve had , we all just want support and feel like there’s none out there. VVCS is a joke , and the waiting list now is like 6 months just to get a call back.
I didn’t want to talk about this directly , but I am so concerned about days like today , hence my posting today. And that’s just returned serviceman.

Mate thank you for your concern, but this wasn’t me reaching out for help . It was me being an advocate for those who won’t ask for it .
And just being generally disgusted with the way some of our society have drilled down on anyone not complying with what they perceive is the right thing to do, based on their own bubble. It reminds me of V for Vendetta , or any other story about Dystopias. As this forum is a reflection of the rest of society. And you all should be very concerned about how easily , some , including some of you, have embraced this to an almost manic enforcement . Sure most because they want to protect the ones they love , but for some , it’s about having power over influencing other people . Nothing at all to do with covid.

I’ts not conspiracies and nonsense either . It’s human nature . That’s why there’s so many books about it . And it’s happened before . The Spanish Inquisition, straight off the top of my head.

Someone here gets it, I said this from the beginning and I haven't seen anything to change my mind.

The prevention will be more harmful than the virus itself.

There will be a point where that will be the case.

The lockdowns were a reasonable initial response as the health system would be overloaded with virus patients. You know who else suffers when the health system is overloaded? People being admitted for strokes, pulmonary embolisms, heart attacks, ruptured aneurysms, organ failure, haemorrhages and anything else that requires immediate attention and resources that would not be available due to COVID patients stacking up. It's a two fold effect.

I dispute the long term implementation of lockdown measures, but as an initial response they undoubtedly have limited the effect on the health system and limited the amount of deaths. You're one of the people who were invariably going to show up when the numbers dropped and harp on about how the measures were heavy handed and they were never required whilst turning a blind eye to the catalyst to the drop in numbers. Look at the US, Spain and Italy as to what happens when you sit on your hands.

By the way, do you have Facebook?

Never been on any social media, never will.

Not even the Gram? :frowning:

I really don't think people care about what I'm doing with my life, I'm not from the generation who feels they have to share everything with the world, so I've never understood social media, it's just not my thing.

Just go get the chip, it's safer, it's more convenient, it's always there, you won't have to worry if you accidentally leave your phone at home you'll always be SAFE with it embedded into your body.

Once it's there you won't even realise it, you can just go on with your life with the peace of mind knowing that you're safe with your safe-t-chip

Great strawman

C'mon man, wake up!!

What's the difference of it being in your phone which is an extension of your arm anyway and always on you?

If you don't think this is all heading towards eventually chipping babies at birth you're going to get a rude shock

Really? You can't see the difference? Just stop mate, you are starting to look foolish.

You know what I mean, obviously there's a physical difference between having something implanted but if you're going to have a government tracking device on you at all times why not just go the next step.

If you don't have the app, I don't know why you're replying.
Unless you just enjoy arguing with people who don't think like you.

You're doing a great job by the way, you're going to change the world, one argument at a time on the Weststigers forum ?

Great, so you agree that your comment was pointless, huge difference between a mobile phone app and a chip in your arm.

I started replying to this because of the misinformation you were stating, I would have actually agreed with some of your points if you argued them with some logic and not from a point of ignorance.

Anyone ever use google..I did to compare internet plans recently and bam within 5 minutes ads for internet plans began to appear on my facebook page..what's even weirder my wife googled coffee machines ..you guessed it 5 mins again I'm getting ads for Nespresso's..

Don't even get me started on Google Maps..everyone has that app don't they..

You would be interested to know that if you show interest in a product that an advertiser is flogging you can also be sent ads the minute you are close to a competitors store. You’re being tracked all the time with digital marketing.

There’s so many vulnerable people , out there who can’t just “go sit on their balcony”
The cure can’t be worse than the cause.

Please don't leave the forum. Keep posting mate but may I suggest try not take things personally.
Stay with us.... Even chatting here helps... As they say we all In this together

Mate thank you for your concern, but this wasn’t me reaching out for help . It was me being an advocate for those who won’t ask for it .
And just being generally disgusted with the way some of our society have drilled down on anyone not complying with what they perceive is the right thing to do, based on their own bubble. Which , frustrates me , as , any opinion I have today , can and should be open to change at a moments notice , when presented with facts. I don’t look for confirmation bias . Or echo chambers. Which reading this thread really felt like that to me .
The sooner we return to something resembling regular life , the better , as the longer it goes , the more brazen and justified these people will feel .

The people who need to know know.
I prefer real relationships than cyber ones, maybe I'm weird
