Hey @MAGPIES1963 Kerry Chant suggested this morning to get 2nd does of AZ after 6 weeks to ensure you are protected sooner with current outbreak. You being in the country may still be better to wait the 12 weeks so maybe have a chat to your doctor this week.

Once again moving the goalposts on AZ

I'm due for my 2nd on Friday week....

Hang in there mate ...keep your head low .....your ass even lower still and beat this virus .....

FWIW I've just booked my shot. Some time in Sept I get it.

Good, because I feel that it will have some effect, even if only minor in the decision process making of some on here.

Not totally sold on what will turn out and the best medical approach, but there seems to be enough out there thus far to indicate that like other vaccines, it does more good than harm.

Still, like any vaccination program, it is going to require reasonable numbers to have a decent effect, so I too am on the bandwagon to hopefully be able to help protect even those that refuse it on little grounds.

Funnily enough, your sensible point, is kind of the opposite of I why I have decided to get the jab. The fact that it is looking more likely that this vaccine is not as effective against the Delta variant means that we are not going to be able to get rid of it and based on what is going on in the UK, we will very quickly end up with a "let it burn" policy with the vaccine hopefully reducing deaths and hospitalisation. With the option of living through a "let it burn" scenario the vaccine starts to win in a risk/benefit analysis.

I have been hold out against hope for some Ivermectin (a drug which the clinical evidence shows is not statistically effective) strategy intervention but that is looking like its not happening.

Ive booked the shot but its 10 weeks away

the family is very upset

You need to take this further @Radoush
Ring talk back radio stations, ABCTV and radio, CH9, etc.
There may well be others in the same stressful situation and this needs to be known.

Trust me Magpies, there are plenty of others in this type of situation. Many have approached different arms of the mainstream media to tell their story, NONE are interested.

Not even Alan?
I wonder why...

They would be, but they’re not mainstream.

I am in the under 60 group. The wait for Pfitzer is ridiculous. Trying to book on the NSW health website it lists appointments available in the next 60 days.

Liverpool is the closest centre. Nothing. Drop down menu offers other places with appointments in the next 60 days. Nothing.

Thinking of booking in for AZ next week at the GP.

Look mate .....can I give you and many others some advice ...some hospitals are literally throwing out vaccines .....this came from my sisters friend from school who is head of anaethology at a Hospital in Qld

Give your local hospital a call every day your available to go in for a late afternoon appt ...you might got lucky

My sister got lucky that way .....3 days of phone calls .....booyah ....

You know by posting this sort of information online you are going to convince people to not have the vaccine? I think that is irresponsible, I am not saying you are wrong about what you are saying but people need to speak to their doctors about this sort of stuff and not rely on what they read on forums.

Absolutely! I’m just sharing an opinion based on the real stories that I have been told. Everyone needs to do their own research and make an informed decision for themselves, not just follow the herd.

I will give it a go, but nothing like an outbreak to fill the waiting list.

My wife is a nurse at a medical centre & heard of one locally that was getting Pfitzer. I rang to book in same day and was told told that they are booked until the end August, they will take my number and let me know. She is younger than me & got AZ with no complications, so I think it is easier if I get her to give me a jab next week.

Thanks for this @cochise
I'll certainly consider having a chat to my Dr. in Nabiac.

From what I understand the AZ jab isn't effective until you get the 2nd dose so they are recommending people get the 2nd shot early so they are protected during this outbreak. This comes at the detriment of the long term immunity it provides so you would then be looking at having to be revaccinated or boosted sooner.

No 100% correct there @cochise.

From the AstraZeneca:

Results demonstrated vaccine efficacy of 76% (CI: 59% to 86%) after a first dose, with protection maintained to the second dose. With an inter-dose interval of 12 weeks or more, vaccine efficacy increased to 82% (CI: 63%, 92%).

An interesting thing with the Astra Zeneca vaccine. In the early trials it was showing efficacy of 60% and it was not promising. In one of the trials they screwed up and only gave half the dose in each shot, but this trial with the accidental half dose achieved around 90% efficacy and that is obviously the dose they give out now.

NSW government called for people to come and get their second shots if they are over 6 weeks post 1st shot this morning.

Got a link for that plz>

At 21.40 of the press conference below.

Thanks mate

People don't need to "do their research," they need to speak to medical professionals and formulate their opinions based on the advice of people whom have studied their whole lives in the field of health rather than listening to half truths and misinformation on the Internet.
