Zero cases in Qld today.
As I said when the cynics all jumped on the "they only aren't having a lockdown because of the Grand Final" bandwagon, maybe they actually know what they're doing.
Once again my awesome Qld. brethren have done the right thing.
I love this state and the people in it!

Noice!!! Let's get this scummy GF over & done with...

On a side note. What's with the low testing numbers up there? **18,427** tests in previous 24hrs...

??? That's a decent turnout for testing in Queensland.

Incentives needed.

Free tinnie of XXXX for every negative test...
1 case of Melbourne Bitter for every positive test...

Not trying to be a cynic, but that's a tiny sample size to base a whole states figures off of...

Maybe only 18427 had symptoms ......

I can't see it happening before early next year unfortunately.

What's da rules with testing up there? Are there requirements for certain professions to get tested on a regular basis?

Not sure exactly ...guessing most would be based on being symptomatic

Just read Singapore has had 31,057 cases in the last 28 days with 80% first dose rate and going back into various lockdowns again .. looks like we are going to have very sore noses over the next 12 months !

Lucky we don't live in Singapore.

Singapore population density: 8358 people per square Km.

Sydney population density: 430 people per square Km.

I don't understand bringing up Singapore. They've had 107 deaths in total and 18 deaths per million people. We've had 1334 and 52 deaths per million people.

They must be even stricter than we have been.

We are going to get rising cases and we have a low natural immunity because COVID hasn't gone crazy. Hopefully the high vaccination rates we have will protect us.

If you have any symptoms, get tested and isolate until your receive your result (generally within 24 hours).

Are there requirements for certain professions to get tested on a regular basis?

No.

Singapore opened at 60%. We are opening with an extra 10% vaccinated and protected. Look at England at 64%.

You have to be careful when using these figures. Our numbers in Australia are being used as basically propaganda as they are based on the adult population and **not the overall** population numbers used elsewhere to have an appearance of better community protection. Our 70% figure is only 56% of population.

That said, we are a nation with little divide on the vaccination front with a long history of acceptance on the science and general political agreement. Such results in the high uptake over most areas when the product has been made available that will have our numbers close to world leading in the coming months, though because of failures to protect many with disabilities and those in widespread vulnerable pockets, there remain many weak links across the state and nation.

Kerry Chant expressed concern and put it well at today's presser when she spoke about the problem gap and it being paramount that the vulnerable all had the opportunity to be vaccinated when opening up.

When things starts to open back up for fully vaccinated people, does that also mean only fully vaccinated workers can go back to non-essential jobs? Or do the restriction only apply to customers? My wife is trying to find out because her workplace is opening back up, they don't seem to one and neither does the helpline.

Also, does anyone know much about how workers rights/health & safety/duty of care come in to play? My wife is pregnant, and it hasn't been easy (she has HG and GD, so already considered a higher risk pregnancy), so she is at a higher risk when it comes to Covid. She's due to get her second vaccination a week or so after her workplace opens back up, but is worried about going back to work before the 2 week period (if at all), but is also worried about losing her job over it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated (we've tried talking to the helpline and to safe work NSW, she's seeing a doctor today and we'll try fair work next week).

There is a big case in the high court in Sydney at the moment
When the decision comes down one way or another you will know but if the guy wins it will be illegal to ask for vaccinated status and to force vaccination on someone or discriminate against unvaccinated

Could be a disaster when it comes to companies trying to avoid deep cleaning. Next thing you know deep cleaning will be discrimination against the unvaccinated.

Have you read lately about deep cleaning of late you can do it yourself overnight with some chemicals I was thinking you had to get people in with Hazmat suites on or something they made it cheap and easy

And then a 2 week holiday is needed for everyone working in the premises.

No they cut that out you can trade next day

So there's no point letting the vaccinated out first and having people check in to restaurants and venues. I guessing you think the government is going over the top with making venues become vaxxed only until at least December.

I am over vaxx nonvaxx don't care

You might care if you get the virus.

Had it twice already last year was worst this year very mild but the one think that stands out from last year to this year was my lungs last year was on absolute fire just burning like a burn on your skin inside your chest crazy

Mate, you just need to go and get a couple of jabs and then if lightning strikes a 3rd time there is every chance that the symptoms will be relatively mild and as an added bonus you won't have to tress out about what is going to be open for you and what, if any restrictions will be placed on you.

I would really like to know how many former vaccine deniers are in the hospital at the moment suffering from vaccine regret.

Not Australian as such, but this site is about antivaxxers dying of covid. A sad read actually.
https://www.sorryantivaxxer.com/

Thanks @mike, that is a sad but interesting read. Just can't get over front line workers that are vaccine deniers. You would think that front line medical staff would be the first ones to be promoting the vaccine.

These are medical professionals & surely smart enough & seen enough to do their own personal risk assessment between catching covid & getting the vaccine.

The 90% is the mark we need to be hitting.

Can either get the vax rate off, or lower the overall population when those that choose not to get it start dropping off the perch.

Trouble with that is it will be those that were unable to get jabbed will be "dropping off the perch" at multiples of the rate than the otherwise healthy who are anti-vax or just don't care for others less fortunate.
