WOW...what a sensible, interesting and thought provoking interview.
Thanks @NT-Tiger

Yeah, I can't attest to the accuracy of what he's saying. I wouldn't know him from a bar of soap, but it gives another perspective/opinion.

Thanks @NT-Tiger

Very hard to agree with it being a sensible interview when he is reading unverified emails from someone who is apparently a doctor in Milan. This email has passed through 4 people to get to him. The information it contains is alarming but can not be taken as fact!

This is why people need to be careful about the sources of their information. That email should never had been read on air as it is alarmist and may not even be authentic!

I wish people would stop talking like pandemic means death to all.

Pandemic just means that the spread of a disease is across territories/countries, not just localised communities. It does not define the mortality of a disease. H1N1 was a pandemic, and killed 200 odd people in Australia, and it affected up to a fifth of the worlds population.

Give it 4 weeks max ...the Govt's CMO's will be issuing ban on large crowd gatherings

My concerns are for the young and elderly and I have both ....My Mrs cares for our two young Godchildren twice a week .....

I'd rather be safe than sorry

So far Covid 19 has appeared to have minimal effects on the young, the elderly are a different question though with a death rate of around 15%

In treated cases .....what's going to happen if NSW has 1.5 million cases as they are talking about and we end up with say 6-7 million cases nationwide

You seem to think our health systems will cope ....I would bet against that

But its just not that .....not enough police ......armed forces can't cover everywhere even if martial law is declared

Sounds fair dinkum to me @NT-Tiger...I would have loved to see the follow up interview where the bloke tells us how to keep ourselves 'safe' as I'm sure we can with a few common sense precautions.

Wash your hands correctly, don't touch your face and avoid direct contact with other people! Though I think you have me blocked so you probably won't see this post!

Also as I stated in my other post anyone reading unverified emails that have past through a number of hands needs to be taken with a grain of salt!

Thanks mate, that is the best advice at the moment and I am glad he received it!

A little more info for those interested!

**Wash your hands frequently**
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

**Maintain social distancing**
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

**Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth**
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

**Practice respiratory hygiene**
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Also in the video posted earlier it was stated that the virus can be transmitted through breathing, current advice is it has to be in water droplets so transfer through breathing is unlikely!

Our health system is going to placed under massive pressure, that is why slowing the spread, increasing the length of the peak and keeping our health care workers healthy is going to be crucial. At some point private hospitals may have to be used to fight this as well. For the majority of the population that gets infected treatment will be rest at home, others will be hospitalised but they real worry are our aged care facilities which for a large number of people will be little more than palliative care.

There have been very little reports of this having a large impact on children and even in my age group (I'm 41) the death rate is 0.4%.

I'm not downplaying this at all, but we are in a much better position than most countries to deal with this. The us is not very well resourced for what is coming!

I added to my post .....I'm far more concerned about the have nots deciding to impose on the haves without having a fully functioning police force or even armed forces stepping in helping

How many people are mocking the toilet paper brigade ....probably haven't begun to stock up on canned foods etc themselves

I just don't see our Govt's being organized enough or prepared enough to keep water and electricity running let alone having enough food stocks for those who aren't in a position to help themselves

I think you will find as a country we will do a lot better than most, I don't think we are going to see a complete shutdown in Australia, I think we will be looking at infected people self isolating which is the current policy. One thing Australian's do well is get thru times of crisis, we dealt with the drought and the bushfires extremely well and we will deal with this. There will be deaths, more deaths than anyone would like but the majority of those will be in the elderly, this is not a death sentence for the majority of the population.

W may see things like an extended school holiday period and non essential medical procedures scrapped. This is all concerning but as a country we will come out the otherside!

I think you will find many Australians in crucial positions won't put themselves in the line of fire ..and I don't mean our emergency services personnel

Normal hygiene like wash your hands thoroughly and don’t touch your face and avoid direct contact with other people.

Also If you are a smoker, stop if you can to avoid compromised lungs.

If you have a chronic illness make sure you you have enough medication in case you have to self isolate for a couple of weeks.

That’s about all you can do.

Why would they? The food supply chain here is not under threat. Fresh veggies, fruit, meat and dairy will continue to be available. Any shortage of cereal will be temporary if at all. If you have to self isolate shops, family and friends can deliver to your door if you run out of supplies.
