Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon is at again infuriating China by referring to it as the China virus. I'll side with Trumpy on this one as he's 100% correct.

???? hopefully this is only the start of the needed retaliation to pull these fools into place and clean up there draconian health practices ! And this is exactly what it is the China Virus ? spawned and delivered !!

Care for some Bat Soup ?

Interesting photo of the soup in Palau.

That photo generated a lot of SEO and click bait the past few months

Exactly, bats are eaten pretty extensively throughout polynesia.

I'm not sure that you are getting this point though in relation to this being China's problem. China have a massive population and they have lots of customs that appear weird to us such as eating bats. The thing is other cultures also eat bats. I'm not stating it's good either. It's just that if you eat enough bats there are going to be viruses transmitted.

Once the outbreak started the majority of governments stuffed up. China being an oppressive regime might have helped contain the virus and it could have been worse. That isn't stating the Chinese government are good people or that their approach was correct.

None of that changes the fact that clearly there should be pressure on China to be more transparent, to stop people eating that crap and getting rid of markets like that.

I agree the Chinese Government needs to be more transparent. I believe and hope they learned something from this. Likewise all other Governments around the world too. What is the use at this present moment in blaming? Perhaps energy would be better spent on best ways to mitigate further spread and containment.

Ive spent a lot of time on Niue in polynesia (have met Dene Halatau's family there) and the locals cant work out why we *dont* eat bats over here.

Chicken of the Cave

Don't get me started on Asahi ...useless , lying mongrels

I am obviously comparing people’s expectations of other nations to ours and suggest you take another look if you did not pick it up first time around.

You ***literally said *** "Do people on here honestly believe that our current secretive government would have handled things better than China have, **such as close our borders**, had the outbreak begun here. "
China did not close their borders and again if originates in your country, stopping people from coming in would be pretty ineffective.

Exactly, so please read my words you quoted again, and again, and again if necessary Glenn, as it is in plain English and you even highlighted pertinent words in bold, rather than being the most argumentative person on the forum with lack of reason.

Edit; I also noticed that you have quoted your misinterpretation elsewhere, so please read what I "literally said" again as the actual words and without the preconceived version in your mind.

And from that day the Heng Seng and Shanghai Composite started a steady decline. A month later European and US markets started their decline , followed by Australia a week later.
You can make up your own mind about the accuracy and information flow. Personally, I have very little confidence in the UN or any of it’s subsidiaries.

Guys - China is to blame for this outbreak but plenty of other countries have caused outbreaks in the past.

I think the real question is do we stop eating meat ?

Yeah my bat strew is off the menu..

its a local delicacy in Wuhan.......

Along with scaley mammals

We eat kangaroo ...our coat of arms .....imagine what other countries think of that
True we do and we should be eating more of it, the difference is our meat is butchered in controlled and hygienic environments. Sure some people might butcher their own but there is no wet market.

Italy overnight "won" the most unwanted title they could possibly get of having the most people die(officialy) from covid-19.The reasons being suggested for this include high smoking rate large elderly population and their habit of embracing/kissing each other on the cheek.Unfortunately the death rate is still rising in Italy and showing no signs of plateauing.

Mate I answered your question and made my point pretty clearly. Lets leave it at that.

I honestly dont understand why there is any debate about it.

We've had lots of virus outbreaks throughout the world. We've been warned about this for years. It's not just a China wet market problem. The problem is much more complex than that. It's like you are looking for a single scapegoat and an easy target but it's not that simple.

It's not that China have done a great job or that their behavior is exemplary but maybe they've handled this better than western countries. I know that this is a subjective opinion but it should be considered and there is some validity in this opinion.

My take is your opinion is too focused on China and it's not a realistic assessment of the situation.

It's hard to know what to believe. If true the Chinese ability to manage these viruses is significantly better than the western world but maybe their figures are really dodgy. I should add that all the figures are going to be dodgy without comprehensive testing and I've heard Australian politicians admit that they will probably run out of test kits so we expect plenty of inaccurate figures throughout the world.

This is a world wide catastrophe but let's hope it gets under control soon.

It's so bad in Italy.

It's human nature to want to blame someone when things go wrong, but some of this China blame is a mix of misguided opinion and sometimes, blatant racism.

This is a virus that mutated and then passed from an animal to a human. It can happen anywhere.

In this case scientists know from the dna sequence that it's probably from pangolins or bats. Previous deadly diseases have been from chickens, pigs or camels. The infection patterns show that it originated from Wuhan.

With China's 1.4 billion people, it's a numbers game. More people, more animals, more chance for a successful mutation that passes to humans.

The extremely likely reason that we haven't run out of test kits already is because we have strict test eligibility parameters that according to most were/are nowhere near wide enough. Once again our island isolation has helped our nation, but once it has gained a foothold, that no longer helps.

Yep. I'm hopeful that this isn't too bad for us just via our luck in being an Island nation however as you state this could turn really bad. We can't think we are okay because it's us. It's that western exceptionalism attitude that is a concern.

It's a day by day proposition.
