It is such a tough call ...you don't want to let your team mates down and if you had readily available testing
Unless you have worked in these situations you don't realize how hard it is if they can't replace your shift on the other staff
Any essential staff should have tests readily available if they are faced with this situations
Testing for people in that field has been available for weeks!
I would have thought they would have been compulsory for people working with vulnerable people i.e. those in hospitals , nursing homes, group homes for disabled. I don't know if they are.
No they are not, my wife works in a hospital and they start social distancing practices well before they were introduced to the general public. Health care workers with symptoms were allowed to be tested about 2 weeks ago. Her hospital started temp testing on entry yesterday!
