The US is waking to their Memorial day and with the normal lesser death reporting each weekend, unless they further fudge their figures that are thought to be well understated, their virus loss numbers will go beyond 100,000 today.

Just started learning Portuguese. That way I can make my whole way around South America without too much trouble. Finding it easier than Spanish as it is feels like it's structured a bit simpler (althought shares a common Latin structure,) and there's a lot of common words between Spanish and Portuguese.

Is that the actual cover? If so that is disgusting and classless.

I had read that the NYT had as its front cover a list of all the names of the dead and I thought that that was a powerful and salient message. If they put that picture over it, then that is disgusting and classless.

Yeah I'm not a fan of any politician. Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon I don't like, but there's none I do like, in the US or in Australia.
But yes, if that picture was used in a commercial newspaper - they are destroying their point of trying to be respectful to those who passed for a cheap distasteful political point. Disrespectful act to all those who did pass.

Haha obviously. Machu Picchu is the last destination on the must do bucket list, got the other two ticked off. It's a while off as I'd like to wait until my kids are old enough to experience it properly.

fingers crossed it won't take too long for international travel to be relaxed. We wont last long without our cohort of international students...i won't have a class to teach by term 1 2021

International travel? IMO 2025 is a realist timeframe.

i'm hoping end of this year or early 2021...otherwise i'll be heading to centrelink

Unless you are teaching English, then I don't see why you shouldn't have full classes with so many needing to re-skill in the coming years. Though I doubt that you will, as public education, apart from it's privatisation or destruction, has long been put on the backburner.

It seems an age, but wasn't that long ago that training was compulsory for reasonable sized businesses.

i teach amep on saturdays at tafe (not at UTS) and we're wondering how we gonna fill the numbers in 2021.

Most departments at University and TAFE invariably rely on a supplementary pool of international students. They pay x3 more tuition fees than locals and without their support it will inevitably mean less classes which means less teachers; support staff etc

A lot of these kids have had no choice but to talk to their mgiration / education agents or go back home.
