A worry that they don't know how this new Sydney case got their infection.
The hotel quarantine system seems to be struggling at the moment. I know people have strong opinions either way, but I support having closed international borders for the time being. To have a serious outbreak in NSW after all this time and effort would be devastating. There's a case to be made for quarantine facilities at isolated mining camps, defence sites or whatever, but the reality is they aren't there now, and right now we just can't risk it. Some of these new variants are causing utter havoc internationally, we must not allow that to happen here.
I am absolutely for quarantine facilities being built outside the major cities. Have said so for a while now. COVID19 won’t be the last pandemic we face. The best time to start planning & building it/them was April 2020. The next best time to start is tomorrow.
So increase the number of people required to transport and care for the these people, 2 x to 4x the transport? 1 in 100 cases will die and up to 10 in 100 need hospitalisation, medivac back to major cities?
Yep. Can be done safely.
But why?
Why increase the cost, increase the risk to support staff, increase the risk of positive cases dying? What is your rationale? What is the benefit of them being back of nowhere?
