Is this true ? It definitely hasn't been my understanding.

I don't know about the strong voices part but yes, some (or at least one) cabinet member was leaking cabinet discussions at a relatively early stage in the lockdown suggesting that an undisclosed number of cabinet members were in favour of taking a "let it rip" approach.

This is good information but the picture doesn't sound like what formerguest was stating. A difference of opinion is going to be happen.

The government didn't go that way did they.

I think they locked down too late but it's understandable.

It’s the quickest way to get to what Bill Gates wants when he said in his Ted talk he wants to control the words population through vaccination

Yeah nah, he didn't say that.

Yeah nah, he didn't say that.

Bill Gates should be recognized as one of the smartest people in the world. He created Microsoft but I think of more relevance he was telling everyone about the risk of pandemics occurring years ago.

For some reason he is the antichrist to the crazies.

It’s why I like Gladys and she continues to impress me. We need politicians that face issues but do so in pragmatic ways.

Pragmatism would have shut the lid on this in the Eastern Suburbs.

I disagree completely. My impression is that people are making this some rich vs poor or white vs non-white divide and it isn't case.

It happened in the Northern beaches.

My comment was about your evaluation of one being pragmatic, nothing to do with geography, wealth or race, which you brought into it.

Pragmatism would have shut it down earlier if Philisophical didn’t overrule the correct decision.

I really don't think it would have. It's easy with hindsight. Read that article I posted. It's from a guy a lot smarter and heaps better educated than you or myself. On top of that he appears to be able to think correctly.

He made a great point. The risk averse people who continually scream for lockdowns are always going to be right at some point via hindsight.

I believe NSW health and the government have been pragmatic. That is why we haven't had continual lock downs over minimal cases. This has gone against us now but that doesn't mean the decisions over the course of the pandemic have not been the correct decisions.

If you are right this time you've been wrong every other time.

Don't try and piss in my pocket, we are talking about the current lockdown and it was a philosophical decision rather than a pragmatic one.

As for your last sentence, find me an example.

I'm definitely not pissing in your pocket.

As for examples. Every time there has been an outbreak NSW have taken their time implementing lock downs. Every single time.

This is the same approach that has worked so well in the past. So you are right now but if your approach had been followed previously it would have been the wrong approach.

I'd suggest NSW has been pragmatic when the other states haven't been.

You're not an idiot, however I may have to reconsider that position if you want to pretend that this has ever been about past decisions and anyone with working eyes and ears has not known for months that the newer variants are much worse and cannot be treated the same way.

Anyway I am certain that you are aware that strong voices in our state government wanted to let it rip, plus history here shows you will go on page after page without relenting regardless, so I am outta here.

I will jump in your convo
I personally thought the talk about delta strain being more virulent and being more transmissible was bullshit

Reason I thought this

- was always surprised it was never bad in India
- south Australia jumping the gun last year over the one case and making out was a super strain
- the uk variant (whatever letter it is now ) was said to be more virulent .. but whenever it escaped quarantine didn’t seem to be worse than other strains

I can't help you with that as there was plenty of data out there, but relevant to why we are going to be in this until spring, the following was a month ago today.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1418474451654483971

This delta variant is so contagious it is causing a slight uptick in infected people across the world. So vaccines led to a massive decrease in infections but the delta variant is changing that slightly right now.

So many people on here have anxiety issues
Death is part of living if your live in fear you don't live to your fullest potential let people make the choice if they want to self impose a lockdown on them self so be it and others sign a waiver that you can go about your normal life but if you get sick you don't get a bed Infront of people who have chosen to self isolate

It's the quickest way to get to what Bill Gates wants when he said in his Ted talk he wants to control the words population through vaccination

How do you know what Bill Gates wants? That’s not what he said at all. Stop making crap up.

I expect to see a sharp spike with the protests going on in the park opposite Sydney uni today. If anything it could delay the end if the lockdown by a couple of weeks.

“ First, we’ve got population,” he said during the talk organized by TED, a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas. “The world today has 6.8 billion people. That’s headed up to about nine billion. Now, if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we could lower that by, perhaps, 10 or 15 percent. But there, we see an increase of about 1.3”

The protest will have the opposite result as to what they want. It's a super spreader event.

Yeah, sadly probably true, though the Swiss cheese like restrictions need even more attention.

People can be living or working between say Newcastle, Lithgow etcetera in a 50 km radius past the Greater Sydney zone and two latest LGA's further restricted without a test.

This will last sooooo long unless meaningful change is made quickly, if not immediately.

When he saw data suggesting that when mortality rates fall, so, too, do birth rates, Gates shifted his focus from preventing births to saving people already alive.

The dangers of listening to dummies that parrot conspiracy theories are many.
You can take any quote out of context, spin it and get dummies to believe rubbish.

The Web can be a good thing and a very bad thing, most of these protesters are purely driven by what they see and read on the web, but every society wants to defend their rights of freedom and freedom of choice, but some of the information and choices people are making now were never so easily accessable before, and what these protesters have access to is, misinformation and conspiracy theories, if we are now talking about a national emergency, then, i think, The government/police shouldn't be waiting for the protests to happen and then violantly disassembling them,
And if we are in a national emergency Why aren't they dismantling the websites that is provoking them?
Because the result of this protest could mean much more people being infected and dying.

The protestors are a gathering of all the kids that sat at the back of the class and didn't pay attention.

Yeah, so sad. Just like the further lies from Murdoch's night time mouthpieces broadcast here and abroad.

One of them from his US propaganda network in Hannity has finally realised the damage he has done vaccine wise in conservative circles. Similarly to when he changed stance on the virus itself earlier, to now promoting them as his largely unvaccinated flock are again dying at an exponential rate.

Meanwhile his on air contemporary Carlson is still spreading nonsense, which will be costing the lives of the gullible for some time to come.

America is now back to getting the most daily new cases in the world again. Europe also trending up again in both cases and deaths. This shows that vaccines are a necessary part of the toolkit, but they are not a magic bullet.

Even with increased vaccine take up, a hard international border needs to be part of our strategy for a long time to come. There's no going back to normal any time soon.

They should be denied care from NSW Health
IF any of them get covid... Selfish entitled aholes

Next they will be protesting that only ten people can attend their grandparents' funerals after their super-spreader scum conference.
