Actually not a bad idea.

It couldn't work like that. They have limited doses and they have to store in like - whatever degrees etc.

That's just not right. AZ is not in limited supply and refrigeration is quite manageable. It can be stored for 6 months at between 2 and 8 degrees centigrade.

I'll stay with this idea and state that if people were willing to take the AZ vaccine it could work.

There are still massive logistical problems with this approach. You have to record the doses people are getting etc.

I think that this is happening across the US and UK right now.

I don't believe this but I'm an optimist. The people dying are the the ones who aren't the sheep and have chosen very smartly not to vaccinate.

Reading about those protests has me in a mood so I'll say it. Let's give everyone the chance to vaccinate and then give the protestors their rights back. Let nature take it's course. Cull the stupid morons.

This.

99.2% of US COVID deaths in June were unvaccinated folks:

I must be misunderstanding this comment. Everything is recorded in MyGov under your vaccination records, including which specific vaccine you received and when.

EDIT: OK oops. My apologies, I went back and read the previous page properly. Tying vaccinations in with testing wouldn't work, the queues would be even more unmanageable than they have been.
Aside from that I'm pretty sure they won't administer the vaccine to anyone with a fever or suspected of having COVID.

My recent drive through test was about 30 seconds of actual interaction with one staff member. Vaccination was many staff going through the administrative stuff in different stages and locations within the facility, 3 minutes while the nurse checked everything was in order and gave me the jab then a minimum 15 minutes waiting in observation.

America is now back to getting the most daily new cases in the world again. Europe also trending up again in both cases and deaths. This shows that vaccines are a necessary part of the toolkit, but they are not a magic bullet.

Even with increased vaccine take up, a hard international border needs to be part of our strategy for a long time to come. There's no going back to normal any time soon.

I did some Internet research on this. It's not as simple as what I thought but vaccinations are having a massively positive effect. There is a 3rd wave due to the delta virus in the UK and the US atm. The 3rd wave isn't as bad now as the first 2 waves but this is solely due to vaccinations. The 3rd wave appears to be all about the delta variant.

Some people (the crazies) aren't getting vaccinated and these people are suffering considerably more than the sheep who get vaccinated.

The problem with this 3rd wave is that it's hitting younger people more often. This is probably partly because older people are more likely to be vaccinated. It may also be because the Delta variant is more contagious.

I think atm the vaccines are still giving like 80% + protection against getting infected and more like 95%+ protection against developing a serious illness. One guy I listened too stated that the US needs the world to be vaccinated because that is the way to beat this virus long term.

It's also not like the flu in that it isn't mutating all the time. It'll be interesting if and when we need booster shots.

He should be strung up no need for that

No need for the march at all.

Yeah but animal cruelty is beyond stupidity.
It's an act that shouldn't be tolerated.

These guys (probably) don't march for any other causes but they're rallying against their privileges being impacted... cringe. No freedom fighters here just idiots, making things worse.

Normally would not agree, but those that I saw weren't groups of the poor and disenfranchised, rather the selfish and entitled.

Agree with the logistic issues but they are in no way insurmountable. Recording doses is well within our capability. Getting people to take AZ is a bit of an issue but even that seems to be shifting. More and more under 60s are choosing to take AZ if Pfizer is not available.

Free to avoid all basic health considerations during a pandemic.
(Masks, sanitising, social distancing, avoiding gatherings, groups in numbers as advised by government for the safety of ALL.)

I don't really see this as a hero act.
Probably just spread things further and made things worse which may cause further lockdowns.

Quite silly really.

I believe in free speech and right to protest very important part of democracy

Maybe they can make a YouTube video instead of violating current orders put in place to protect the community.

I read there was over 90 fines issued and they're going to try and identify others and make further fines.

Hope they value their free speech as it comes at a cost of, $1000 infringement notice.

They were breaking health orders, risking the lives of everyone in our community. So I disagree.

Hope the police turn up with tear gas and water cannons.

Idiocy should hurt.

They should be denied care from NSW Health
IF any of them get covid... Selfish entitled aholes

Plenty of fat and elderly there. Really chancing their arm.

Hope they wind up on ventilators. They'll know what having no free will is really like then.

I understand the sentiment and frustration but I really wouldn’t want that to happen to anyone. It’s a horrible way to die, gasping for breath.

Mate, I've been on a ventilator. I know exactly how unpleasant it is.

Edited version.

When asked why he wasn't wearing a mask, Anthony Mundine said he had an exemption. I'd be interested to know the medical condition which precludes him from wearing a mask. Apparently the government is working on legislation which will require exempt persons to carry a letter from a Dr stating a medical reason.

Sweden isn't in the news much these days. There's a reason for that.

Sweden, of course, was maligned in 2020 for foregoing a strict lockdown. The Guardian called its approach “a catastrophe” in the making, while CBS News said Sweden had become “an example of how not to handle COVID-19.”

Despite these criticisms, Sweden’s laissez-faire approach to the pandemic continues today. In contrast to its European neighbors, Sweden is welcoming tourists. Businesses and schools are open with almost no restrictions. And as far as masks are concerned, not only is there no mandate in place, Swedish health officials are not even recommending them.

What are the results of Sweden’s much-derided laissez-faire policy? Data show the 7-day rolling average for COVID deaths yesterday was zero . As in nada. And it’s been at zero for about a week now.

Sweden’s overall mortality rate in 2020 was lower than most of Europe and its economy suffered far less. Meanwhile, today Sweden is freer and healthier than virtually any other country in Europe
